Book excerpt: Become the Light of Christ in Dark Places When she was only twenty-three years old, Rachelle Starr started going to strip clubs to share Christ's love with the dancers. Now, having founded a Christian ministry to people in the adult entertainment industry, she demonstrates the key to shining Christ's light into the darkness--love people one at a time and continue to love them no matter what. Loving others like Jesus did has to be more than social media shares and likes--we need to meet people in their pain, growing in our empathy and love for those God has placed in our lives. But maybe you're afraid or unsure where to start. This book will light a fire in your soul to step out in greater ways and to become fearlessly and outrageously obedient to the Lord. Be inspired by Rachelle's true stories and biblical encouragement, and discover the courage to say yes to God. Then witness the fruit and the blessings of your obedience! "You may never have Bible studies with prostitutes, but you will be invigorated and galvanized by Rachelle's infectious stories and plain-spoken truth."--KYLE IDLEMAN, bestselling author of Not a Fan and One at a Time

"Passion," "zeal," enthusiasm," and "wholeheartedness" are words that accurately describe how Jesus Christ's life was given for the Father's glory. "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work." The prophecy, "Zeal for your house will consume me," perfectly portrayed Christ's passion in serving His Father. Jesus' passionate love for the Father was the fuel was the fuel that drove Him forward. This book is written to assist believers in embracing the same passion, to "see" Him as He is, thereby being transformed to love extravagantly, which will result in a life lived to the fullest in outrageous obedience to God.

Book excerpt: That morning, a beautiful day on the tropical island of Papua New Guinea, Grace Fabian brimmed in excitement over the idea that she and her husband, Edmund, were close to finishing their missionary project, the translation of the Nabak New Testament. But, while in the midst of translating the love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13, someone murdered Edmund. In this memoir, Grace narrates the couples' life story of their separate journeys before they met, to their shared life as missionaries. She tells the story of how she and her four children wrestled with grief and disorientation after Edmund's murder. She speaks of the family's quest for answers and of the difficulty of meshing two different worlds the culture of the Nabak people in Papua New Guinea and of her Christian heritage from the United States. Grace shares how she faced the challenges of forgiving the murderer, having rocks thrown at their home, receiving eviction notices, and navigating a court case in a foreign country. Outrageous Grace shows how Grace and her children discovered that God orchestrated an amazing story of redemption and forgiveness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jason A. Myers reconsiders the meaning and context of the phrase “the obedience of faith” in Rom 1:5 and how it contributes to the theme of obedience in Romans. In contrast to previous studies that have nearly exclusively focused on the obedience language in light of the Hebrew Bible and Second Temple literature, Myers instead investigates how this language functioned within the Greco-Roman world, particularly in the discourse of the Roman Empire. By studying both the Greco-Roman contexts and the use of obedience language during the Empire, Myers sheds fresh light on the meaning of “the obedience of faith,” and concludes that such examination helps contemporary readers understand how Gentiles in Paul's audience would have heard and received the terms and images relating to obedience. In addition, he argues that Paul's use of obedience language, both at the beginning and end of Romans (1:5; 15:18), serves as rhetorical bookends, and signals a theme that is central to Paul's purpose in Romans and integral to his calling as an apostle to the Gentiles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does God require of you? Many Christians are asking this question, and looking for an answer that is biblically founded. You can find the answer in this book. In her previous book, God Still Speaks, Deborah Roeger outlined a sound basis for hearing from God, discerning His voice, and following Him more closely as we develop the habit of listening. In this first volume of her series "Lost in Translation," she studies biblical obedience. Rather than speaking of obedience as a list of duties, she presents it as a uniquely powerful way to live. This book is rooted in the stories of Scripture, especially of the Old Testament. From those roots the study unfolds a practical, life-changing approach to discipleship based on finding God's will and joyfully joining Him. Each chapter provides a key verse and a number of scriptural examples to follow as we seek to become more effective disciples. We do this not to earn God's favor, but to align with His will and to enjoy a life of peace and communion with the God who loves us. The book contains well researched word studies which link the lessons with specific key words in Scripture. Each word study provides helpful insight into how that word is used biblically and how it informs our discipleship. This book is intended for group study, but can also be read and studied individually. It is a resource for Christian education classes wanting to dig deeper into God's Word presented in the Bible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heart of this book lies in the important discovery that a pivotal Tudor argument in favor of the Royal Supremacy—the argument from Psalm 82 that earthly kings are ‘gods’ on this earth—is in fact Zwinglian in origin. This teaching from Psalm 82, which originated in Zurich in the mid-1520s, was soon used extensively in England to justify the Supremacy, and English evangelicals—from Tyndale to Cranmer—unanimously embraced this Protestant argument in their writings on political obedience. The discovery of this link shows conclusive, textual proof of the ‘Zurich Connection’ between Swiss political teachings and those popular under Tudor kings. This study argues, then, that evangelical attitudes towards royal authority were motivated by the assumption that Protestantism supported ‘godly kingship’ over against ‘papal tyranny’. As such, it is the first monograph to find a vital connection between early Swiss Protestant similar teachings on obedience and later teachings by evangelicals.
