The history of the Old Testament was enacted upon a field less than half the area of the United States. It extended from the river Nile to the lands east of the Persian Gulf and from the northern part of the Red Sea to the southern part of the Caspi-an. The world of Old Testament history was thus 1,400 miles long from east to west and 900 miles wide from north to south, and it aggregated 1,110,000 square miles, exclusive of large bodies of water. II. Let us begin the construction of the map by drawing upon its borders Six Seas, four of which are named in the Old Testament. 1. The Caspi-an Sea, of which only the southern portion appears in the northeastern corner of our map. 2. The Persian Gulf, south of the Caspi-an, on the southeast. 3. The Red Sea, on the southwest (Exod. 15. 4; Num. 33. 10; 1 Kings 9. 26). 4. The Med-i-ter-rane-an Sea, on the central west. Note its names in Josh. 1. 4 and Deut. 34. 2.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outline Studies in the New Testament for Bible Teachers Scriptures finds an abundant reward. There is need in our age of searchers in the Bible, who shall bring out of its treasure-house things new and old. In the Old Bible the most important themes are those which gather around the God-man, Jesus Christ. His coming to earth was the culmination Of all prophecy, the focus of all history, and the center of all doctrine; and the church which he founded has been for nineteen centuries the inspiration Of the world's progress. There are two subjects in the New Testament with which everv follower of Christ should be thoroughly acquainted, and they are its two most prominent themes: the life of Christ on earth, and the growth of the early church. In the life of Christ he should know the order of the leading events; he should grasp its principles, and should enter into its Spirit. Only as we apprehend Christ can we comprehend the truths taught. And inspired by Christ. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: "[...] We begin by dividing the entire field of time to the opening of the New Testament into five periods. Each of these we write at the head of a column. (See the Blackboard Outline.) I. The Period of the Human Race. II. The Period of the Chosen Family. III. The Period of the Is´ra-el-ite People. IV. The Period of the Is´ra-el-ite Kingdom. V. The Period of the Jew´ish Province. I. We find in the opening of the Bible that the Human Race is the subject of the history. This theme extends through the first eleven chapters of Genesis, which narrate the history of much more than half of the time included in the Bible. During this long period no one tribe or nation or family is selected; but the story of all mankind is related by the historian.[...]".

Book excerpt: Excerpt from the Preface: "This book has been prepared at the request of the New York State Sunday School Association, through its Normal Committee. The desire was expressed for a teacher-training course to include two years in the Bible: one year upon subjects contained in the Old Testament, taking the historical point of view, and presenting with the history the lands and the Israelite people, their institutions of worship; and a second year upon the New Testament, following the same plan."

Book excerpt: BACKGOUND MATERIAL FOR TEACHERS, Book One, surveys the first seventeen Old Testament books for Bible teachers of youth and adults. Teachers must build a firm foundation for studying/teaching the Old Testament by answering ten questions: What is the Old Testament? Who wrote the Old Testament? Where, When, Why and How was the Old Testament written? What are three major features of the Old Testament: Revelation, Inspiration and Preservation? How should we study the Word of God? Why should you memorize the Word of God? When should one read the Word of God? Teachers must also build a personal knowledge through surveying the Old Testament utilizing four areas of study: INTRODUCTORY MATERIAL for the first two sections of the Old Testament; BACKGROUND INFORMATION about the author and book; "TEACHER'S STUDY GUIDE" for each of the 17 books; PRESENTATION MATERIAL for teachers [a teaching survey presented by a Scripture verse or passage]. Following high school, a Bachelor of Science degree was received from Piedmont College, Demorest, GA plus a Georgia Teacher's Professional Certificate. Then came the Army Security Agency and three years later came employment with the National Security Agency, Washington, DC. Meeting Edith Campen from North Carolina led to marriage, February 1, 1957. A year after marriage, God called me to the ministry. Graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, TX with a Bachelor of Divinity (updated to Masters of Divinity) and Masters in Religious Education (updated to Masters of Arts), God directed me to serve Him. For some 50 years, it was a pleasure to serve God and people in churches and classrooms as Minister of Youth, Minister of Education, Minister of Education/Administration, and Minister of Pastoral Care. It was a joy to teach this Old Testament Bible Survey Course to ninth grade students at Cypress Community Christian School, Houston, TX

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE MATERIAL in these studies has been given as lessons in Bible study classes, or sermons preached from the author's pulpit, through the course of many years. It has been brought together in this form that it might be a help to busy pastors and Bible teachers in their preparation of messages, and that it might be of practical and devotional value for all Bible students and Christian workers, who want to understand the rich teaching of Old Testament types. The author does not claim to have exhausted the possible types of the Old Testament in these studies. But he has endeavored to deal with some sections of Scripture that without the typical approach would find little of practical application for the Christian today. For this reason the chapter dealing with types in Leviticus has been made the longest chapter in the book. We trust that that book of the Bible will mean more to the reader after studying this chapter. The study of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness from the typical viewpoint has always been a joy to the hearts of Bible students. But the author has discovered that a study of the typical truths of Solomon's Temple is equally valuable and precious. We suggest that Bible teachers give more attention to this neglected subject. These studies are of necessity fairly brief. Many Scriptures have been included that throw light on the particular subject. But the material herewith presented should be suggestive, and wise students of Scripture can add other details to what has been given. May the Lord use these studies to help many to understand and make practical application of Old Testament truth to the lives of modern-day Christians.
