I must apologise for this book and plead that it was suddenly commissioned, hastily undertaken, and hurriedly accomplished in the Odd moments of too few and too busy days. It is unworthy of the great movement whose rise and progress it purports to chronicle-a move ment whose full story may, I trust, soon command the service of a more able and more leisured pen than mine.
