Book Synopsis Discrete Oscillation Theory by : Ravi P. Agarwal
Download or read book Discrete Oscillation Theory written by Ravi P. Agarwal and published by Hindawi Publishing Corporation. This book was released on 2005 with total page 977 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to a rapidly developing branch of the qualitative theory of difference equations with or without delays. It presents the theory of oscillation of difference equations, exhibiting classical as well as very recent results in that area. While there are several books on difference equations and also on oscillation theory for ordinary differential equations, there is until now no book devoted solely to oscillation theory for difference equations. This book is filling the gap, and it can easily be used as an encyclopedia and reference tool for discrete oscillation theory. In nine chapters, the book covers a wide range of subjects, including oscillation theory for second-order linear difference equations, systems of difference equations, half-linear difference equations, nonlinear difference equations, neutral difference equations, delay difference equations, and differential equations with piecewise constant arguments. This book summarizes almost 300 recent research papers and hence covers all aspects of discrete oscillation theory that have been discussed in recent journal articles. The presented theory is illustrated with 121 examples throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with a section that is devoted to notes and bibliographical and historical remarks. The book is addressed to a wide audience of specialists such as mathematicians, engineers, biologists, and physicists. Besides serving as a reference tool for researchers in difference equations, this book can also be easily used as a textbook for undergraduate or graduate classes. It is written at a level easy to understand for college students who have had courses in calculus.

Book Synopsis Oscillation, Nonoscillation, Stability and Asymptotic Properties for Second and Higher Order Functional Differential Equations by : Leonid Berezansky
Download or read book Oscillation, Nonoscillation, Stability and Asymptotic Properties for Second and Higher Order Functional Differential Equations written by Leonid Berezansky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-05-18 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotic properties of solutions such as stability/ instability,oscillation/ nonoscillation, existence of solutions with specific asymptotics, maximum principles present a classical part in the theory of higher order functional differential equations. The use of these equations in applications is one of the main reasons for the developments in this field. The control in the mechanical processes leads to mathematical models with second order delay differential equations. Stability and stabilization of second order delay equations are one of the main goals of this book. The book is based on the authors’ results in the last decade. Features: Stability, oscillatory and asymptotic properties of solutions are studied in correlation with each other. The first systematic description of stability methods based on the Bohl-Perron theorem. Simple and explicit exponential stability tests. In this book, various types of functional differential equations are considered: second and higher orders delay differential equations with measurable coefficients and delays, integro-differential equations, neutral equations, and operator equations. Oscillation/nonoscillation, existence of unbounded solutions, instability, special asymptotic behavior, positivity, exponential stability and stabilization of functional differential equations are studied. New methods for the study of exponential stability are proposed. Noted among them inlcude the W-transform (right regularization), a priory estimation of solutions, maximum principles, differential and integral inequalities, matrix inequality method, and reduction to a system of equations. The book can be used by applied mathematicians and as a basis for a course on stability of functional differential equations for graduate students.

Book Synopsis Oscillation Theory for Neutral Differential Equations with Delay by : D.D Bainov
Download or read book Oscillation Theory for Neutral Differential Equations with Delay written by D.D Bainov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With neutral differential equations, any lack of smoothness in initial conditions is not damped and so they have proven to be difficult to solve. Until now, there has been little information to help with this problem. Oscillation Theory for Neutral Differential Equations with Delay fills a vacuum in qualitative theory of functional differential equations of neutral type. With much of the presented material previously unavailable outside Eastern Europe, this authoritative book provides a stimulus to research the oscillatory and asymptotic properties of these equations. It examines equations of first, second, and higher orders as well as the asymptotic behavior for tending toward infinity. These results are then generalized for partial differential equations of neutral type. The book also describes the historical development of the field and discusses applications in mathematical models of processes and phenomena in physics, electrical control and engineering, physical chemistry, and mathematical biology. This book is an important tool not only for mathematicians, but also for specialists in many fields including physicists, engineers, and biologists. It may be used as a graduate-level textbook or as a reference book for a wide range of subjects, from radiophysics to electrical and control engineering to biological science.

Book Synopsis Oscillations and Resonances by : Sergey G. Glebov
Download or read book Oscillations and Resonances written by Sergey G. Glebov and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-04-10 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume monograph presents new methods of construction of global asymptotics of solutions to nonlinear equations with small parameter. These allow one to match the asymptotics of various properties with each other in transition regions and to get unified formulas for the connection of characteristic parameters of approximate solutions. This approach underlies modern asymptotic methods and gives a deep insight into crucial nonlinear phenomena in the natural sciences. These include the outset of chaos in dynamical systems, incipient solitary and shock waves, oscillatory processes in crystals, engineering applications, and quantum systems. Apart from being of independent interest, such approximate solutions serve as a foolproof basis for testing numerical algorithms. This first volume presents asymptotic methods in oscillation and resonance problems described by ordinary differential equations, whereby the second volume will be devoted to applications of asymptotic methods in waves and boundary value problems. Contents Asymptotic expansions and series Asymptotic methods for solving nonlinear equations Nonlinear oscillator in potential well Autoresonances in nonlinear systems Asymptotics for loss of stability Systems of coupled oscillators
Book Synopsis Linear Differential Equations and Oscillators by : Luis Manuel Braga da Costa Campos
Download or read book Linear Differential Equations and Oscillators written by Luis Manuel Braga da Costa Campos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear Differential Equations and Oscillators is the first book within Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications to Trajectories and Vibrations, Six-volume Set. As a set, they are the fourth volume in the series Mathematics and Physics Applied to Science and Technology. This first book consists of chapters 1 and 2 of the fourth volume. The first chapter covers linear differential equations of any order whose unforced solution can be obtained from the roots of a characteristic polynomial, namely those: (i) with constant coefficients; (ii) with homogeneous power coefficients with the exponent equal to the order of derivation. The method of characteristic polynomials is also applied to (iii) linear finite difference equations of any order with constant coefficients. The unforced and forced solutions of (i,ii,iii) are examples of some general properties of ordinary differential equations. The second chapter applies the theory of the first chapter to linear second-order oscillators with one degree-of-freedom, such as the mechanical mass-damper-spring-force system and the electrical self-resistor-capacitor-battery circuit. In both cases are treated free undamped, damped, and amplified oscillations; also forced oscillations including beats, resonance, discrete and continuous spectra, and impulsive inputs. Describes general properties of differential and finite difference equations, with focus on linear equations and constant and some power coefficients Presents particular and general solutions for all cases of differential and finite difference equations Provides complete solutions for many cases of forcing including resonant cases Discusses applications to linear second-order mechanical and electrical oscillators with damping Provides solutions with forcing including resonance using the characteristic polynomial, Green' s functions, trigonometrical series, Fourier integrals and Laplace transforms
Book Synopsis Natural Science by : Hans-Jürgen Hellberg
Download or read book Natural Science written by Hans-Jürgen Hellberg and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-01-12 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exercise book is primarily intended to prepare students for studies at universities of applied sciences. The high school graduation or the specialized university entrance qualification is required for admission to a university degree program. In addition, there is also the possibility to study with a higher professional qualification, such as the master craftsman or as a graduate of a two-year recognized technical school. Especially here, however, deficits in mathematics and the fundamentals of natural sciences often become apparent so that students cannot successfully begin their studies to become industrial, civil, mechanical or even electrical engineers. The same applies if the date of the university entrance qualification already lies somewhat in the past. In order to ensure that the necessary tools, such as mathematics or the fundamentals of science, are available at the start of studies, Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schlüsing and Diploma Physicist Hans-Jürgen Hellberg have decided to compile a first small exercise book series. The first exercise book series consists of four exercise booklets each in mathematics and three scientific basics. Exercise books Mathematics: Fundamentals, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Complex Numbers Exercise books in Natural Science Fundamentals: Oscillations, Waves, Optics

Book Synopsis Oscillations in Planar Dynamic Systems by : Ronald E. Mickens
Download or read book Oscillations in Planar Dynamic Systems written by Ronald E. Mickens and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a concise presentation of the major techniques for determining analytic approximations to the solutions of planar oscillatory dynamic systems. These systems model many important phenomena in the sciences and engineering. In addition to the usual perturbation procedures, the book gives the details of when and how to correctly apply the method of harmonic balance for both first-order and higher-order calculations. This procedure is rarely given or discussed fully in standard textbooks. The basic philosophy of the book stresses how to initiate and complete the calculation of approximate solutions. This is done by a clear presentation of necessary background materials and by the working out of many examples.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications Oscillation Theory, Computation, and Methods of Compensated Compactness represents the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1984-85 IMA program on CONTINUUM PHYSICS AND PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS. We are grateful to the Scientific Committee: J.L. Ericksen D. Kinderlehrer H. Brezis C. Dafermos for their dedication and hard work in developing an imaginative, stimulating, and productive year-long program. George R. Sell Hans Weinberger PREFACE Historically, one of the most important prohlems in continuum mechanics has been the treatment of nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. Thp. importance of these systems lies in the fact that the underlyinq equ~tions of mass, momentum, and energy are descrihed by conservation laws. Their nonlinearity and hyperbolicity are consequences of some cornmon constitutive relations, for example, in an ideal gas. The I.M.A. Workshop on "Osci 11 at i on theory. computat i on, and methods of com pensated compactness" brought together scientists from both the analytical and numerical sides of conservation law research. The goal was to examine recent trends in the investigation of systems of conservation laws and in particular to focus on the roles of dispersive and diffusive limits for singularily perturbed conservation laws. Special attention was devoted to the new ideas of compen sated compactness and oscillation theory.
