Book Synopsis Integration of One-forms on P-adic Analytic Spaces. (AM-162) by : Vladimir G. Berkovich
Download or read book Integration of One-forms on P-adic Analytic Spaces. (AM-162) written by Vladimir G. Berkovich and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many differences between classical and p-adic objects, those related to differential equations occupy a special place. For example, a closed p-adic analytic one-form defined on a simply-connected domain does not necessarily have a primitive in the class of analytic functions. In the early 1980s, Robert Coleman discovered a way to construct primitives of analytic one-forms on certain smooth p-adic analytic curves in a bigger class of functions. Since then, there have been several attempts to generalize his ideas to smooth p-adic analytic spaces of higher dimension, but the spaces considered were invariably associated with algebraic varieties. This book aims to show that every smooth p-adic analytic space is provided with a sheaf of functions that includes all analytic ones and satisfies a uniqueness property. It also contains local primitives of all closed one-forms with coefficients in the sheaf that, in the case considered by Coleman, coincide with those he constructed. In consequence, one constructs a parallel transport of local solutions of a unipotent differential equation and an integral of a closed one-form along a path so that both depend nontrivially on the homotopy class of the path. Both the author's previous results on geometric properties of smooth p-adic analytic spaces and the theory of isocrystals are further developed in this book, which is aimed at graduate students and mathematicians working in the areas of non-Archimedean analytic geometry, number theory, and algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Filtrations on the Homology of Algebraic Varieties by : Eric M. Friedlander
Download or read book Filtrations on the Homology of Algebraic Varieties written by Eric M. Friedlander and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides a detailed exposition of a classical topic from a very recent viewpoint. Friedlander and Mazur describe some foundational aspects of ``Lawson homology'' for complex projective algebraic varieties, a homology theory defined in terms of homotopy groups of spaces of algebraic cycles. Attention is paid to methods of group completing abelian topological monoids. The authors study properties of Chow varieties, especially in connection with algebraic correspondences relating algebraic varieties. Operations on Lawson homology are introduced and analysed. These operations lead to a filtration on the singular homology of algebraic varieties, which is identified in terms of correspondences and related to classical filtrations of Hodge and Grothendieck.
Book Synopsis Residues and Duality for Projective Algebraic Varieties by : Ernst Kunz
Download or read book Residues and Duality for Projective Algebraic Varieties written by Ernst Kunz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book, which grew out of lectures by E. Kunz for students with a background in algebra and algebraic geometry, develops local and global duality theory in the special case of (possibly singular) algebraic varieties over algebraically closed base fields. It describes duality and residue theorems in terms of Kahler differential forms and their residues. The properties of residues are introduced via local cohomology. Special emphasis is given to the relation between residues to classical results of algebraic geometry and their generalizations." "The contribution by A. Dickenstein gives applications of residues and duality to polynomial solutions of constant coefficient partial differential equations and to problems in interpolation and ideal membership, D. A. Cox explains toric residues and relates them to the earlier text." "The book is intended as an introduction to more advanced treatments and further applications of the subject, to which numerous bibliographical hints are given."--BOOK JACKET.
Book Synopsis Cohomological Theory of Crystals Over Function Fields by : Gebhard Böckle
Download or read book Cohomological Theory of Crystals Over Function Fields written by Gebhard Böckle and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2009 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a new cohomological theory for schemes in positive characteristic $p$ and it applies this theory to give a purely algebraic proof of a conjecture of Goss on the rationality of certain $L$-functions arising in the arithmetic of function fields. These $L$-functions are power series over a certain ring $A$, associated to any family of Drinfeld $A$-modules or, more generally, of $A$-motives on a variety of finite type over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$. By analogy to the Weil conjecture, Goss conjectured that these $L$-functions are in fact rational functions. In 1996 Taguchi and Wan gave a first proof of Goss's conjecture by analytic methods a la Dwork. The present text introduces $A$-crystals, which can be viewed as generalizations of families of $A$-motives, and studies their cohomology. While $A$-crystals are defined in terms of coherent sheaves together with a Frobenius map, in many ways they actually behave like constructible etale sheaves. A central result is a Lefschetz trace formula for $L$-functions of $A$-crystals, from which the rationality of these $L$-functions is immediate. Beyond its application to Goss's $L$-functions, the theory of $A$-crystals is closely related to the work of Emerton and Kisin on unit root $F$-crystals, and it is essential in an Eichler - Shimura type isomorphism for Drinfeld modular forms as constructed by the first author. The book is intended for researchers and advanced graduate students interested in the arithmetic of function fields and/or cohomology theories for varieties in positive characteristic. It assumes a good working knowledge in algebraic geometry as well as familiarity with homological algebra and derived categories, as provided by standard textbooks. Beyond that the presentation is largely self contained.

Book Synopsis Relative P-adic Hodge Theory by : Kiran Sridhara Kedlaya
Download or read book Relative P-adic Hodge Theory written by Kiran Sridhara Kedlaya and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors describe a new approach to relative $p$-adic Hodge theory based on systematic use of Witt vector constructions and nonarchimedean analytic geometry in the style of both Berkovich and Huber. They give a thorough development of $\varphi$-modules over a relative Robba ring associated to a perfect Banach ring of characteristic $p$, including the relationship between these objects and etale ${\mathbb Z}_p$-local systems and ${\mathbb Q}_p$-local systems on the algebraic and analytic spaces associated to the base ring, and the relationship between (pro-)etale cohomology and $\varphi$-cohomology. They also make a critical link to mixed characteristic by exhibiting an equivalence of tensor categories between the finite etale algebras over an arbitrary perfect Banach algebra over a nontrivially normed complete field of characteristic $p$ and the finite etale algebras over a corresponding Banach ${\mathbb Q}_p$-algebra. This recovers the homeomorphism between the absolute Galois groups of ${\mathbb F}_{p}((\pi))$ and ${\mathbb Q}_{p}(\mu_{p}\infty)$ given by the field of norms construction of Fontaine and Wintenberger, as well as generalizations considered by Andreatta, Brinon, Faltings, Gabber, Ramero, Scholl, and, most recently, Scholze. Using Huber's formalism of adic spaces and Scholze's formalism of perfectoid spaces, the authors globalize the constructions to give several descriptions of the etale local systems on analytic spaces over $p$-adic fields. One of these descriptions uses a relative version of the Fargues-Fontaine curve.
Book Synopsis Lectures on K3 Surfaces by : Daniel Huybrechts
Download or read book Lectures on K3 Surfaces written by Daniel Huybrechts and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: K3 surfaces are central objects in modern algebraic geometry. This book examines this important class of Calabi–Yau manifolds from various perspectives in eighteen self-contained chapters. It starts with the basics and guides the reader to recent breakthroughs, such as the proof of the Tate conjecture for K3 surfaces and structural results on Chow groups. Powerful general techniques are introduced to study the many facets of K3 surfaces, including arithmetic, homological, and differential geometric aspects. In this context, the book covers Hodge structures, moduli spaces, periods, derived categories, birational techniques, Chow rings, and deformation theory. Famous open conjectures, for example the conjectures of Calabi, Weil, and Artin–Tate, are discussed in general and for K3 surfaces in particular, and each chapter ends with questions and open problems. Based on lectures at the advanced graduate level, this book is suitable for courses and as a reference for researchers.

Book Synopsis Schubert Calculus and Its Applications in Combinatorics and Representation Theory by : Jianxun Hu
Download or read book Schubert Calculus and Its Applications in Combinatorics and Representation Theory written by Jianxun Hu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-24 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers research papers and surveys on the latest advances in Schubert Calculus, presented at the International Festival in Schubert Calculus, held in Guangzhou, China on November 6–10, 2017. With roots in enumerative geometry and Hilbert's 15th problem, modern Schubert Calculus studies classical and quantum intersection rings on spaces with symmetries, such as flag manifolds. The presence of symmetries leads to particularly rich structures, and it connects Schubert Calculus to many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, combinatorics, representation theory, and theoretical physics. For instance, the study of the quantum cohomology ring of a Grassmann manifold combines all these areas in an organic way. The book is useful for researchers and graduate students interested in Schubert Calculus, and more generally in the study of flag manifolds in relation to algebraic geometry, combinatorics, representation theory and mathematical physics.
Book Synopsis Variations on a Theme of Borel by : Shmuel Weinberger
Download or read book Variations on a Theme of Borel written by Shmuel Weinberger and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the middle of the last century, after hearing a talk of Mostow on one of his rigidity theorems, Borel conjectured in a letter to Serre a purely topological version of rigidity for aspherical manifolds (i.e. manifolds with contractible universal covers). The Borel conjecture is now one of the central problems of topology with many implications for manifolds that need not be aspherical. Since then, the theory of rigidity has vastly expanded in both precision and scope. This book rethinks the implications of accepting his heuristic as a source of ideas. Doing so leads to many variants of the original conjecture - some true, some false, and some that remain conjectural. The author explores this collection of ideas, following them where they lead whether into rigidity theory in its differential geometric and representation theoretic forms, or geometric group theory, metric geometry, global analysis, algebraic geometry, K-theory, or controlled topology.
