Book excerpt: As the gears of time turn and churn in relentless revolutions, a desolate, postapocalyptic Earth rotates along with them. And within this war-torn planet's orbit, a genetically modified, humanoid being, named Omega, awakens in its wake. But where are its creators, and what fate has befallen them? Years, decades, and eons crunch by as Omega wanders the Earth on its own, realizing that it is both immortal and entirely alone. Mankind has faded into extinction, leaving only their creation to recreate them. But after ages of loneliness, can Omega's psyche survive the immortality of its body? Can its shattered mind create anything other than abominations as it mentally prepares to resurrect humanity? Light and darkness clash and coalesce as matter and energy, space and time itself, shift and shape in accordance with Omega's will and imagination. Yet some things that can be imagined should never come to exist.

Download or read book Notebooks written by A.M. Klein and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1995-12-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of A.M. Klein's finest prose is to be found in the mass of uncompleted work that he abandoned at the time of his breakdown, and that became accessible only when his papers were deposited in the National Archives. Notebooks offers a generous selection of this work, revealing previously unsuspected facets of Klein's character and artistry. The fiction, criticism, and memoirs collected here focus on Klein's exploration of the role of the artist. The works illuminate crucial periods of his career, especially the early 1940s, when he was transforming himself into a modernist, and the early 1950s, when he was struggling to overcome the misgivings about his art that were to lead to his final breakdown. The semi-autobiographical text which Klein referred to as 'Raw Material' and the unfinished novel of prison life entitled 'Stranger and Afraid' cast a new light on Klein's often frustrating relationship with the Montreal Jewish community. In 'Marginalia' he discusses poetic form and technique and makes observations on the nature of poetry, thereby providing insights into his own concerns as a writer. In 'The Golem,' a profoundly ambiguous treatment of the act of creation, a self-portrait emerges of a storyteller who has lost faith in the power and value of his story. The volume includes a critical introduction, that places the material in the context of Klein's other works, as well as textual and explanatory notes.

Book Synopsis Gangs and Minorities in Singapore by : Narayanan Ganapathy
Download or read book Gangs and Minorities in Singapore written by Narayanan Ganapathy and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique ethnographic study of a racially exclusive Malay Muslim gang, Omega, which has its roots in Singapore's prisons and controls much of the illicit drug trade in the state. Similar to indigenous peoples elsewhere, Singapore Malays are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system and can respond to structural marginalization and colonization through gang involvement. In demonstrating that gang membership can be an adaptive strategy for minority groups, this book promotes a more inclusive and restorative justice model for people with repeat convictions.
Download or read book Where Is God? written by Denver E. Crew and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2003-10 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the height of the Great Depression the narrator loses his job in the Butte copper mines and leaves home to look for work despite the fact that there are eighteen million unemployed and his chances are slim. He hoboes 10,000 miles throughout the West, stealing rides in boxcars and passenger trains, hitchhiking on the roads. He stops at hobo jungle and Hoovervilles, encounters sadistic railroad security and always capitalized the Law. He digs potatoes for a quarter a day, washes cars for a penny each, boxes in a carnival for two dollars a fight. He is picked up as a vagrant, beds down in a brothel, watches a hanging, and winds up in the county jail on suspicion of murder. Because his story is largely autobiographical, every word rings true. He is a Depression-era pilgrim and the people he meets comprise the face of America in despair. There are authentic and persuasive portraits of people trying to find their way through one of the most desperate times in history. O'Malley's graphic, first-hand account will tell you what it was really like.
Book Synopsis Love Life and Reality by : Frances Mcintyre
Download or read book Love Life and Reality written by Frances Mcintyre and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2003-03-24 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oh, I don't know, it's just a book about growing up QUEER! I really hate that word but there you have it. This book only scratches the surface of what it is like to grow up in a bigoted society, but I believe gets my point across. It also conveys what it's like to be taught by nuns who seemed to be crazed because of sexual starvation. What it is like to be raised by a grandmother who should have been a nun she would have fit in so well. It's about a father she rarely saw and who always popped-up' in the wrong places and with the wrong person. It is about young queer love and young queers. I believe, though, it will appeal to straight people as well. They will hopefully see that love is love no matter what form it takes. That people are just people and emotions are all the same. That pain and rejection hurt just as much, and love and relationships mean just as much to those that are homosexual and lesbian as they do to heterosexuals. Hopefully, they will come to understand that God made two types of people gay and straight and he loves us equally. Also, this book is written to reach out to straight men that feel intimidated by lesbians and feel less than love for us. I believe it is not just a question of them feeling threatened that we might take some of their women away I believe it's also because they know our dicks are bigger than theirs.

Book Synopsis A Theology of Literature by : William Franke
Download or read book A Theology of Literature written by William Franke and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the tools of far-reaching revolutions in literary theory and informed by the poetic sense of truth, William Franke offers a critical appreciation and philosophical reflection on a way of reading the Bible as theological revelation. Franke explores some of the principal literary genres of the Bible--Myth, Epic History, Prophecy, Apocalyptic, Writings, and Gospel--as building upon one another in composing a compactly unified edifice of writing that discloses prophetic and apocalyptic truth in a sense that is intelligible to the secular mind as well as to religious spirits. From Genesis to Gospel this revealed truth of the Bible is discovered as a universal heritage of humankind. Poetic literature becomes the light of revelation for a theology that is discerned as already inherent in humanity's tradition. The divine speaks directly to the human heart by means of infinitely open poetic powers of expression in words exceeding and released from the control of finite, human faculties and the authority of human institutions.
