The data sample consists of 232 x 106?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e− collider. They select events with a D or D* meson and a light lepton (l = e or?) recoiling against a fully reconstructed B meson. They perform a fit to the joint distribution of lepton momentum and missing mass squared to distinguish signal B → D{sup (*)}?− {bar {nu}}{sub?} ({tau}− → l− {bar {nu}}{sub l}{nu}{sub {tau}}) events from the backgrounds, predominantly B → D{sup (*)} l−{bar {nu}}{sub l}. They measure the branching-fraction ratios R(D) {triple_bond}?(B → D{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}})/?(B → Dl− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) and R(D*) {triple_bond}?(B → D*{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}})/?(B → D* {ell}− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) and, from a combined fit to B− and {bar B}° channels, obtain the results R(D) = (41.6 ± 11.7 ± 5.2)% and R(D*) = (29.7 ± 5.6 ± 1.8)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. Normalizing to measured B− → D{sup (*)0} {ell}− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}} branching fractions, they obtain?(B → D{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}}) = (0.86 ± 0.24 ± 0.11 ± 0.06)% and?(B → D*{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}}) = (1.62 ± 0.31 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, where the additional third uncertainty is from the normalization mode. Book excerpt: Based on the full BaBar data sample, we report improved measurements of the ratios R(D(*)) = B(B -> D(*) Tau Nu)/B(B -> D(*) l Nu), where l is either an electron or a muon. These ratios are sensitive to new physics contributions in the form of a charged Higgs boson. We measure R(D) = 0.440 +- 0.058 +- 0.042 and R(D*) = 0.332 +- 0.024 +- 0.018, which exceed the Standard Model expectations by 2.0 sigma and 2.7 sigma, respectively. Taken together, our results disagree with these expectations at the 3.4 sigma level, which could be an indication of beyond-the-Standard- Model processes affecting these decays. We examine whether the excess in R(D) and R(D*) could be explained by a charged Higgs boson in the type II two-Higgs-doublet model, which describes the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric model at tree level. We exclude this possibility in the full parameter space with a probability of at least 99.8%, or 3.1sigma significance. We also report the observation of the decay B -> D Tau Nu, with a significance of 6.8 sigma.

Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. We measure the relative branching fraction [Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+ Xl−{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}})/[Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+/{bar {Lambda}}{sub c}−X) = (3.2 ± 0.9{sub stat.} ± 0.9{sub syst.})%. The significance of the signal including the systematic uncertainty is 4.9 standard deviations.

Book excerpt: We study the semileptonic decays D+ [RIGHTWARDS ARROW] [eta] e+ [nu] and D+ [RIGHTWARDS ARROW] [eta]e+ [nu] using 818 pb[-]1 of e+ e[-] collisions recorded by the CLEO-c detector located at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We employ a technique that uses the detector hermeticity to reconstruct the neutrino as missing energy and momentum. We improve the neutrino resolution by developing a generic algorithm to reconstruct the non-signal D, and constrain systematic uncertainties in the efficiency by using the algorithm to measure the branching fractions of D+ and D0 hadronic decays. We observe and measure the branching fractions of 67 hadronic decays, 32 of which are not listed in the PDG 2008. We find B(D+ [RIGHTWARDS ARROW] [eta] e+ [nu]) = (2.16 ± 0.53 ± 0.05 ± 0.05) x 10[-]4 and B(D+ [RIGHTWARDS ARROW] [eta]e+ [nu]) = (11.7 ± 0.98 ± 0.34 ± 0.26) x 10[-]4 . Among the 67 D hadronic branching fractions observed in this analysis, we discover the decay B(D+ [RIGHTWARDS ARROW] [pi]+ [eta][eta]) = (0.34 ± 0.06 ± 0.032)% which is unexpectedly large considering the limited phase space available to the decay.
