Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rapid Reintegration Procedure has evolved from Analytical Hypnotherapy and Ego State Hypnotherpay. It has been streamlined to include only the essential elements without impairing effectiveness. Although the procedure asserts that the process of hypnosis is maintained throughout, there is no attempt to induce a state of hypnosis. The procedure is based on the assumption that, emotional disorders arise from the presence of dissociated distressed ego states formed during traumatic experiences in childhood. It detects these ego states and reintegrates them into the prime personality, resolving previous unconscious conflicts and alleviating symptoms. This is accomplished without verbalization of the experiences respoonsible for the unconscious distress, accomplishing the same goals as ego state hypnotherapy but requiring less of the therapist's time. This book will present both the theory and practice of ego state hyhpnotherapy as practiced in the Rapid Reintegration Procedure.

Book excerpt: Adolescent Development and Psychopathology contains classic psychoanalytic papers on the psychology of adolescence and the psychotherapeutic treatment of adolescent patients. Written between the 1930s and 1980s by highly respected scholars and practitioners, these papers illustrate the evolution of theory and clinical practice from a structural Freudian model of personality to the ethos of developmental, relational, and interpersonal perspectives. Adolescent Development and Psychopathology compares and contrasts crucial concepts from each of the analytic orientations. While highlighting therapeutic dilemmas with adolescent patients, this volume clarifies principal connections between disruptions in adolescent development and the consolidation of psychopathology.

The author focuses on the application of color science to the solution of practical problems, providing a comprehensive discussion of the nondestructive spectrophotometric tools and techniques used to understand the color and appearance of materials during the technical examination of works of art. The book, which features numerous examples of reference reflectance spectra, can help prevent misinterpretation of color measurements and the erroneous conclusions that might result. Topics include spectrophotometry, colorimetry, colorant mixtures, analytical techniques, reflection, fluorescence, and the effects of extenders, fillers, and inerts.

In doing so, it represents the grounded voices of authors whose work and lives mean that they engage, on a daily basis, with issues related to housing and spatial rights, and identity struggles around race, gender, disability, sexuality, citizenship and class. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the method developed by Dr. Silvia Helena Koller and her students and collaborators to apply Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory of Human Development to empirical studies with children and adolescents. Although Bronfenbrenner's theory, in different stages of development, has been widely cited by several researchers, surprisingly little has been written about the theory itself, its evolution or about the methods that should be used to test it. This book fills this gap by presenting both an overview of Bronfenbrenner’s theory and a method to apply it to empirical research, the Ecological Engagement method. The book also shows how this method can be applied in practice by bringing together a series of research reports of studies carried out in different regions of Brazil and in Angola that used the Ecological Engagement method to study children and adolescent development in different contexts, such as street situation, sexual exploitation, institutional reception, family reintegration, school and emergency and disasters, among others. Ecological Engagement – Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Method to Study Human Development will be a valuable tool for psychologists and other social scientists interested in child and adolescent development looking for a solid an innovative methodology that allows researchers to directly interact with their research subjects in their own social contexts in order to fully understand their problems and issues. “The methodology of Ecological Engagement, that is explained and richly empirically illustrated in this book, is a singularly significant extension of [Urie Bronfenbrenner’s] bioecological model. Indeed, in my view it is a brilliant empirical instantiation of the PPCT component of the model. (...) Ecological Engagement methodology is the scientific means through which Urie’s legacy can be furthered.” – Excerpt from the Foreword to the International Edition by Dr. Richard M. Lerner, director of the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development, Tufts University

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shaykh Ṭanṭāwī Jawharī was an Egyptian exegete known for having produced a scientific interpretation of the Qurʾān. A pioneering scholar in terms of familiarising the people of his time with many previously neglected matters regarding Islam and science, his publications shocked the Cairo educational system and other Muslim places of learning in the early twentieth century. This book examines the intersection between Ṭanṭāwī Jawharī and Egyptian history and culture, and demonstrates that his approach to science in the Qurʾān was intimately connected to his social concerns. Divided into three parts, part one contains three chapters which each introduce different aspects of Ṭanṭāwī Jawharī himself. The second part explores the main aspects of his tafsīr, discussing his approach to science and the Qurʾān, and how he presented Europeans in his tafsīr, and then addressing the impact of his tafsīr on wider Muslim and non-Muslim society. The third section draws attention to the themes from all 114 sūras of the Qurʾān that are discussed within his commentary. It then analyses the current status of his views and the post-Jawharism perspective on science and the Qurʾān, both today and in an imaginary future, in 2154. Providing new English translations of Ṭanṭāwī Jawharī’s work, the book delivers a comprehensive assessment of this unique figure, and emphasises the distinctive nature of his reading of the Qurʾān. The book will be a valuable resource for anyone studying modern Egypt, the Qurʾān, Islam and Science, and scientific interpretation and inimitability.
