Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his review of the Proceedings of the First International Workshop on Respiratory Muscles in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, organized in Montescano in 1986, Thomas K. Aldrich stated that "there is little information on nutrition". We felt that the need to supplement the evaluation of respiratory muscles by studying nutritional problems was an important enough matter to justify producing a specific study on the subject. This book is the result of the efforts made in this direction. Since 1986, many of the problems associated with nutrition and ventilatory function have been elucidated, and we hope that the contents of this book may contribute towards spreading interest and knowledge in this sector, particularly among those working in the field of respiratory rehabilitation. The physiological and clinical aspects of nutritional problems and the therapeutic approaches adopted in different disease conditions are dealt with in these pages by some of the best-known researchers in the field, providing abundant evidence, if any should be needed, that rehabilitation is not merely exercise. The picture strongly emerging over these last few years is that rehabilitation is not merely a matter of knowledge of lung or respiratory muscles, but also of heart-lung interaction, metabolic equilibrium and nutrition. So much for recent developments, but what does the future hold in store? May 1992 RENATO CORSICO Preface Nutrition and ventilation are inextricably related.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.

New six Part structure covers new approaches to exercise testing, interstitial lung diseases and other diseases, and add-on interventions drawing on new technologies. Contains recommendations of the large collaborative ERS/ATS task forces on guidelines for PR as well as suggested policies for its implementation and use. Covers the important topic of balance impairment as a focus of rehabilitation for the at-risk patient and a new chapter on monitoring physical activity. The voices of patients and caregivers describe the impact of chronic respiratory disease on their lives. Features an exclusive chapter on COVID-19 that discusses the short- and long-term pathophysiological consequences, provides information about the potential role of physiotherapy in the management of hospitalized patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, and details on who, where, and how to deliver programs to COVID-19 and non COVID-19 patients in the lockdown and post lockdown era.

Book Synopsis Respiratory Disease and Nutrition by : Hiam Abdala-Valencia
Download or read book Respiratory Disease and Nutrition written by Hiam Abdala-Valencia and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most complex respiratory conditions invoke interactions between genetic and environmental factors, such as smoking, pollution, and diet. There is increasing evidence that diet and nutrition are important factors, not only in disease prevention, but also in their contribution to the chronicity and heterogeneity of lung disorders. Nutrients exert potent effects on metabolism through a variety of regulatory mechanisms, resulting in local and systemic changes in metabolite levels. In this issue of Nutrients, we would like to bring together papers dealing with the topic of "Respiratory Diseases and Nutrition". We welcome manuscripts detailing human and animal studies focused on the roles of dietary and metabolic factors in the initiation and progression of respiratory diseases, including, but not limited to, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. In vitro studies aimed at elucidating the potential molecular mechanisms of diet-metabolic interactions are also invited. We welcome different types of manuscript submissions, including original research articles and up-to-date reviews and commentaries.

Book Synopsis Respiratory Diseases: Role of Dietary and Metabolic Factors by : Sansa Holly
Download or read book Respiratory Diseases: Role of Dietary and Metabolic Factors written by Sansa Holly and published by American Medical Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Respiratory diseases are a group of pathological conditions that affect parts of respiratory system and lungs. These diseases can be classified into three categories, namely, obstructive lung disease, restrictive lung diseases and chronic respiratory disease. Obstructive lung diseases are respiratory conditions characterized by obstruction of air flow. They include diseases like chronic bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis. Restrictive lung diseases are diseases classified by a loss of pulmonary compliance. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are some common restrictive lung diseases. Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are a group of long-term diseases that affect the structures and airways of lungs. CRDs include diseases like occupational lung diseases and pulmonary hypertension. Diet and nutrition play a major role in the management of respiratory diseases. The intake of fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals has potential advantages in the management of respiratory conditions. The various advancements in study of respiratory diseases are glanced at and the role of dietary and metabolic factors is looked at in detail within this book. It will provide comprehensive knowledge to the readers.
Book Synopsis Respiratory Health by : Mieczyslaw Pokorski
Download or read book Respiratory Health written by Mieczyslaw Pokorski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tracheobronchial tree is open to the environment surrounding the body. Respiration has thus the essential bearing on general morbidity, vulnerability to disease and immunity. Further, respiratory function shapes the neuropsychological responses to succumbing to disease, controls the mind-to-body interaction and sets the perception of quality of life. The chapters of this book deal with the preventable drivers of poor respiratory health, the role of health information technology, the improvement in health care delivery and the integration of respiratory health and behavioral health services. Innovative strategies to promote prevention, care coordination and care integration as well as to align disease acceptance and quality of life measures also are tackled. Maintaining respiratory health is of rising research interest as a way of preventing a disease or a non pharmacological therapeutic succor. The book will be of interest to clinicians, family practitioners and medical researchers.
