I graciously accepted and found it to be exactly as I had thought it would be; the work of a great artist. I have known Jahmal for more that twelve years and have discovered that he is wise beyond his years, highly intelligent and deeply concerned about people. I did not hesitate when I was asked to edit this project because it gave me the rare an unusual opportunity to be the second person to read this mind, soul, and body stirring poetry, before other people in the world got their hands on it... Sincerely, GiGi Tinsley M. Theo M. psych. Editor, Publisher, and Writer This book was written to educate, build character, spiritually enrich its' readers, and in a nutshell provide pertinent information to assist others in preparation for the New Age, which is to commence on 2012. Also, this book was written to raise the awareness of men and women of the African Diaspora, of the age old African Matriarchal/Matrilineal custom. For such was the basis of Ancient African society. A Greater reception of the African woman wherever she might be on the Earth's stage, is imperative that we have if we are to ever move forward as a people. In African traditional society when we speak of matriarchal rule we are speaking of a reality whereby the woman was the landowner, the elector of officials, keeper of the royalty, and guardian of the purity of the lineage, she as a woman had synonymity with wisdom. This is the kind of reception of African women that needs to return I'm saying if we are to forward as a people.

Book excerpt: OUR CULTURE HAS BECOME OBSESSED WITH HUSTLING. As we struggle to keep up in a knowledge economy that never sleeps, we arm ourselves with life hacks, to-do lists, and an inbox-zero mentality, grasping at anything that will help us work faster, push harder, and produce more. There’s just one problem: most of these solutions are making things worse. Creativity isn’t produced on an assembly line, and endless hustle is ruining our mental and physical health while subtracting from our creative performance. Productivity and Creativity are not compatible; we are stuck between them, and like the opposite poles of a magnet, they are tearing us apart. When we’re told to sleep more, meditate, and slow down, we nod our heads in agreement, yet seem incapable of applying this advice in our own lives. Why do we act against our creative best interests? WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO FLOAT. The answer lies in our history, culture, and biology. Instead of focusing on how we work, we must understand why we work—why we believe that what we do determines who we are. Hustle and Float explores how our work culture creates contradictions between what we think we want and what we actually need, and points the way to a more humane, more sustainable, and, yes, more creative, way of working and living.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Library of New Testament Studies (LNTS) is a premier book series that offers cutting-edge work for a readership of scholars, teachers in the field of New Testament studies, postgraduate students and advanced undergraduates. All the many and diverse aspects of New Testament study are represented and promoted, including innovative work from historical perspectives, studies using social-scientific and literary theory, and developing theological, cultural and contextual approaches Kelli S. O'Brien examines the use of scripture in the Markan passion narrative. O'Brien begins by laying firm methodological foundations, providing an incisive definition of the term allusion and the criteria by which the presence of allusions may be established. She then tests the plethora of allusions that previous scholars have discerned within Mark 14-15, arguing that only sixteen references have sufficient support to be considered as allusions out of approximately 270 references suggested. O'Brien then moves to assess the interpretive impact of the most likely allusions on the Markan passion narrative. Some allusions make bold statements with regard to Christology, including Jesus' ultimate vindication and exaltation. Many, however, have little Christological content and function as literary devices to interpret the narrative. Allusions illuminate the significance of events, from the flight of the disciples to the offer of vinegary wine. The presence of allusions provides a window to the evangelist's understanding of Jesus' death in eschatological and redemptive terms. As such this study is of immense importance in furthering comprehension of the Second Gospel's interpretation of the passion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gorgeous War argues that the Nazis used the swastika as part of a visually sophisticated propaganda program that was not only modernist but also the forerunner of contemporary brand identity. When the United States military tried to answer Nazi displays of graphic power, it failed. In the end the best graphic response to the Nazis was produced by the Walt Disney Company. Using numerous examples of US and Nazi military heraldry, Gorgeous War compares the way the American and German militaries developed their graphic and textile design in the interwar period. The book shows how social and cultural design movements like modernism altered and were altered by both militaries. It also explores how nascent corporate culture and war production united to turn national brands like IBM, Coca-Cola, and Disney into multinational corporations that had learned lessons on propaganda and branding that were being tested during the Second World War. What is the legacy of apparently toxic signs like the swastika? The answer may not be what we hoped. Inheritors of the post-Second World War world increasingly struggle to find an escape from an intensely branded environment—to find a place in their lives that is free of advertising and propaganda. This book suggests that we look again at how it is our culture makes that struggle into an appealing Gorgeous War.

This book was released on 2023-02-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metaphor, which allows us to talk about things by comparing them to other things, is one of the most ubiquitous and adaptable features of language and thought. It allows us to clarify meaning, yet also evaluate and transform the ways we think, create and act. While we are alert to metaphor in spoken or written texts, it has, within the visual arts, been critically overlooked. Taking into consideration how metaphors are inventively embodied in the formal, technical, and stylistic aspects of visual artworks, Mark Staff Brandl shows how extensively artists rely on creative metaphor within their work. Exploring the work of a broad variety of artists – including Dawoud Bey, Dan Ramirez, Gaëlle Villedary, Raoul Deal, Sonya Clark, Titus Kaphar, Charles Boetschi, and more– he argues that metaphors are the foundation of visual thought, are chiefly determined by bodily and environmental experiences, and are embodied in artistic form. Visual artistic creation is philosophical thought. By grounding these arguments in the work of philosophers and cultural theorists, including Noël Carroll, Hans Georg Gadamer, and George Lakoff, Brandl shows how important metaphor is to understanding contemporary art. A Philosophy of Visual Metaphor in Contemporary Art takes a neglected feature of the visual arts and shows us what a vital role it plays within them. Bridging theory and practice, and drawing upon a capacious array of examples, this book is essential reading for art historians and practitioners, as well as analytic philosophers working in aesthetics and meaning.
