Book excerpt: Depuis quelques années, de nouvelles familles d’aciers tels que les aciers Dual-Phase (ferrite/martensite), présentant des propriétés mécaniques intéressantes, ont été développés en vue d’utilisations dans l’industrie automobile. Toutefois, certaines applications nécessitent des résistances mécaniques encore plus élevées, supérieures à 800 MPa. C’est dans cette optique que nous développons en collaboration (TECSEN – Arcelor) de nouvelles nuances basées sur une microstructure multiphasées microalliées au vanadium. Pour ce faire, il est primordial de comprendre l’influence de la chimie et des traitements thermomécaniques sur la microstructure et la précipitation, qui déterminent les propriétés mécaniques des aciers. Quatre aciers bainitiques ainsi que deux produits de simulation ont été réalisés pour évaluer la contribution aux propriétés mécaniques de chaque constituants de l’acier. Le principal outil d’investigation dans ce travail, est la microscopie électronique en transmission associée aux techniques d’analyse chimique EDS et EELS. En plus des techniques classiques de préparation d’échantillons, nous avons utilisé pour la première fois le nano-usinage ionique (Focused Ion Beam FIB). Il s’est avéré que c’est une technique indispensable pour l’identification de toutes les phases constituant l’acier. Nous avons montré que ces aciers ont une microstructure de type bainitique inférieure contenant des îlots martensitiques en fractions volumiques variables (4 à 10%). Dans tous les aciers étudiés, cette bainite est constituée de grains ferritiques de l’ordre de 2 μm et d’une cémentite globulaire d’environ 100 nm. Néanmoins, la quantité de carbures de vanadium et de cémentite intragranulaire précipitée varie selon le traitement thermomécanique appliqué. En effet, la petite cémentite intragranulaire ne précipite que si la vitesse de refroidissement de l’acier ainsi que l’entrée dans le domaine bainitique correspondent à une certaine fenêtre d’opérations. Dans ce type d’aciers multiphasés et microalliés, en plus de la contribution de la microstructure, les carbures de vanadium permettent d’atteindre des résistances mécaniques de l’ordre de 900 MPa. Pour atteindre 1000 MPa, la fine cémentite intragranulaire (1 à 3 nm) est indispensable.

Ces produits travaillent à hautes températures et sont soumis à des sollicitations mécaniques et thermiques sévères. La compréhension du comportement thermo-mécanique des matériaux carbonés est donc essentielle si l'on souhaite optimiser leur utilisation. L'objectif de cette étude est de mettre en relation les caractéristiques macroscopiques à température ambiante et à chaud des matériaux carbonés (comportement à la rupture, résistance à la propagation de fissure, tenue aux chocs thermiques) avec leur microstructure. Dans ce but, nous avons mis au point un dispositif expérimental de mesure de la contrainte à la rupture jusqu'à 1400°C et du module d'Young jusqu'à 1200°C. afin de mieux comprendre le rôle de la porosité sur les mécanismes de rupture et la résistance aux chocs thermiques, des formulations ont été élaborées spécialement dans le cadre d'un plan d'expérience en faisant varier le taux de liant et le taux de poudre. Les propriétés physiques et mécaniques des différents constituants de ces formulations (grains, liant, matrice liant-poudre) ont été caractérisées, ainsi que la porosité décrite en détail. Les grandeurs mécaniques présentent, pour tous les produits, une élévation réversible entre la température ambiante et la température de cuisson des produits. Cette hausse est interprétée par la relaxation d'une partie des contraintes thermiques dues aux différences de coefficient de dilatation thermique des constituants (théorie d'Eshelby). Les caractéristiques thermo-mécanique des matériaux carbonés sont de plus, meilleure à porosité réduite. Cependant, la tenue aux chocs thermiques n'est pas corrélée avec la porosité : c'est le taux de liant qui semble être le facteur déterminant.

Held in tandem with Rob|Arch 2018, the leading conference for robotics in architecture, RILEM deemed it the right time to combine forces at this new conference, which will be the first large conference to feature the work of the recently created RILEM Technical Committee on Digital Fabrication with Cement-based Materials, among other leaders in this new field worldwide.
