Book Synopsis Young Business Leaders by : Mette Zølner
Download or read book Young Business Leaders written by Mette Zølner and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world of sweeping economic, political and social changes, what happens to our values, norms and identities? In particular, what happens to the identities of those actors who are exposed to the forces of globalisation? How do they make sense of their personal and professional lives when they must think globally and act locally? This book investigates these questions through an empirical analysis of the identities and lives of young business leaders in a France that has undergone considerable institutional changes over the last 70 years. The analysis offers an original perspective by investigating a case of puzzling robustness, namely the identity carried by a particular group of young business leaders, Centre des jeunes dirigeants d'entreprise. Since its founding in 1938, this organisation has put forward the ideal that businesses should go beyond furthering the particular interests of their owners and aspire to work for the common good of society. For the individual business leader, this implies a need to reconcile two objectives: contributing towards making society a better place - creating utopia - and ensuring that his/her business is viable - ensuring utility. On the basis of a thorough historical and sociological analysis, this book sheds light on how to understand robustness in values and identities in a world of sweeping changes. Moreover, it takes the reader on a fascinating journey into a sector that is largely outside the attention of both the media and scholarly literature: the life-worlds of young leaders of small- and medium-sized companies in France.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays is intended as a tribute to Josef Maria Jauch on his sixtieth birthd~. Through his scientific work Jauch has justly earned an honored name in the community of theo retical physicists. Through his teaching and a long line of dis tinguished collaborators he has put an imprint on modern mathema tical physics. A number of Jauch's scientific collaborators, friends and admirers have contributed to this collection, and these essays reflect to some extent Jauch's own wide interests in the vast do main of theoretical physics. Josef Maria Jauch was born on 20 September 1914, the son of Josef Alois and Emma (nee Conti) Jauch, in Lucerne, Switzerland. Love of science was aroused in him early in his youth. At the age of twelve he came upon a popular book on astronomy, and an exam ple treated in this book mystified him. It was stated that if a planet travels around a centre of Newtonian attraction with a pe riod T, and if that planet were stopped and left to fall into the centre from any point of the circular orbit, it would arrive at the centre in the time T/I32. Young Josef puzzled about this for several months until he made his first scientific discovery : that this result could be derived from Kepler's third law in a quite elementary way.
Book Synopsis Flaubert: Transportation, Progression, Progress (Le Romantisme Et Après En France by : Kate Rees
Download or read book Flaubert: Transportation, Progression, Progress (Le Romantisme Et Après En France written by Kate Rees and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A belief in progress tells us something about the way a society views itself. Progress speaks of confidence, optimism and dynamism. It assures us of pattern and structure. In the nineteenth century, as the Christian model of development is increasingly challenged and as geological findings expand understanding of history, so progress emerges from the Enlightenment as an ever more acute subject for debate. This book addresses the theme of progress and patterns of progression in the work of Flaubert. Through close textual analysis of his works and particular scrutiny of his narrative structures, this book argues that Flaubert's position in the mid-nineteenth century situates his work at an intriguing historical crossroads, between Romantic faith in progress and assertions of Decadent decline. Flaubert's response to progress is rich and complicated, offering stimulating views of momentum and perfectibility. In this study, actual progression is seen as a metaphor for understanding Flaubert's attitude to historical progress. Each chapter focuses on a particular vehicle or pattern of movement, analysing journeys undertaken by characters in Flaubert's texts as models of disrupted, non-linear progression which provide a counter-current to contemporary ideologies of progress. A closing chapter examines connections between Flaubert and Huysmans, investigating the response to progress in later nineteenth-century literature.

In the field of housing, this publication identifies the recurrent properties of 'sustainable space’ and the variety of the socio-cultural practices that can embody them. Its purpose is to comprehend how the concept of sustainability is reflected in housing spaces as well as to analyse how inhabitants put those spaces to the test.
