He expresses a confidence which he does not effect to conceal, in the weight and cor rectness of his argument, -and that his readers will not have cause to regret the expense of pur chase, or the trouble of perusal. Yet he author izes us to believe, that worthy as his book is, he could have made it much better; for under the urgency of friends, and the calls of the printer, he wrote cum calamo currente I They gave him time only to score some words, and 'to interline others, in the correction of his copy. Thus he informs us, he had no time to make his language better, to expunge repetitions, to better work his arguments. What pity that those solicitous friends, had not given Mr. B. A few years more, in addition to the six or'seven, which elapsed between the publication of'the Apology for the Psalms, ' and his 'examination of that work, in order that the world might have been favouredwith those fine specimens of rhetoric and logic, which he was capable of furnishing.
