The term ‘partnership’ was employed primarily to refer to partnerships between government and businesses, usually termed PPP (Public Private Partnerships). On the other hand ‘strategic alliances’ was the term employed for business-to-business partnerships. Until then ‘sponsorship’ was the most practised associational form between nonprofit organisations (NPOs) and businesses (BUSs), which was included within the broad area of corporate community involvement. The relations between NPOs and BUSs witnessed a gradual intensification over the last 200 years (Gray 1989; Young 1999; Austin 2000; Googins and Rochlin 2000) resulting in increased interactions within both the philanthropic and trans- tional types of relationships (Seitanidi and Ryan 2007). However, the more recent gradual prominence of the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) within all sectors of society elicited an intensification of the debate with regard to the responsibilities of each sector in addressing environmental and social issues. In effect, CSR contributed to the increase of the interactions across the sectors and propelled NPO-BUS Partnerships (a type of social partnership) as a key mechanism for corporations to delve into a process of engaging with NPOs in order to improve their business practices by contributing their resources to address social issues (Heap 1998; Mohiddin 1998; Fowler 2000; Googins and Rochlin 2000; Mancuso Brehm 2001; Drew 2003; Hemphill and Vonortas 2003).

Die Untersuchungsgrundlage dieser Ausarbeitung baut auf den spezifischen Charakteristika von Nonprofit-Organisationen und den aus bestehenden "Scaling"-Strategien herausgearbeiteten Anforderungskriterien an neue "Scaling"-Ansätze auf. Die theoretisch abgeleiteten Befunde zeigen hierbei, dass der "Open-Innovation"-Ansatz trotz seines privatwirtschaftlichen Ursprungs generell auf Nonprofit-Organisationen übertragbar ist und unter Berücksichtigung von bestimmten Umsetzungsfaktoren zudem als adäquate "Scaling"-Strategie angesehen werden kann. Insofern erweist sich der "Open-Innovation"-Ansatz gegenüber bestehenden "Scaling"-Strategien als eine erfolgsversprechende Alternative, die im Hinblick auf die Ausgestaltung im Sinne eines fundierten Handlungsrahmens zukünftig noch genauer zu untersuchen wäre.

Aus diesem Grund wird genau diese Fähigkeit bei Studierenden aus den Masterstudiengängen Management in Nonprofit-Organisationen und Soziale Arbeit der Hochschule Osnabrück gefördert. Im Rahmen des Moduls Handlungsfelder II entwickelten rund 30 Studierende im Wintersemester 2021/2022 in einer Denkwerkstatt Forschungsergebnisse und Lösungsideen zum Thema "Osnabrück 2030 - Nachhaltigkeit“. Die Studierenden wählten in einem partizipativen Prozess ihre eigenen Schwerpunktthemen wie zum Beispiel Mobilität oder Bildung aus und arbeiteten dann ein Semester lang an den Inhalten. Bei der Erarbeitung wurden sie durch Marlene Eimterbäumer begleitet, die Modelle, Methoden und Coaching zur Unterstützung bereit stellte. Die Modelle und Methoden finden sich teilweise in den Beiträgen der Studierenden wieder (unter anderem das Socio Ecological Model und der Business Model Canvas). Am Ende des Semesters stand eine Präsentation vor den Kommiliton*innen, der Lehrenden und auch vor externen Gästen, die aus unterschiedlichen Expertisegebieten im Themenbereich Nachhaltigkeit kamen und dementsprechend Feedback aus der Praxis geben konnten. Die Entwicklung des Moduls erfolgte durch Gesa Birnkraut und Marlene Eimterbäumer und wurde von der Hochschule im Rahmen der Innovativen Lehre an der Fakultät Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften gefördert. Für die Studierenden stellte das Modul durchaus eine Herausforderung dar, denn in der Denkwerkstatt musste unter hoher Komplexität stark prozessbezogen gearbeitet werden im Gegensatz zu der sonstigen hohen Ergebnisorientierung. Die durchweg sehr guten Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der Einsatz und die kontinuierliche Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit gelohnt haben. Aufgeteilt ist das vorliegende Buch in die fünf Themen: Mobilität, nachhaltige Beschaffung, nachhaltige Bildung, Stadtplanung und Wirtschaft. Zu diesen Themen finden Sie jeweils erst einen Beitrag der Forscher*innen und darauffolgend einen Beitrag zur Darstellung einer Lösungsidee." (Abstract).
