Book Synopsis Handbook of Modern Ferromagnetic Materials by : Alex Goldman
Download or read book Handbook of Modern Ferromagnetic Materials written by Alex Goldman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Below is a copy of Professor Takeshi Takei's original preface that he wrote for my first book, Modem Ferrite Teclmology. I was proud to receive this preface and include it here with pride and affection. We were saddened to learn of his death at 92 on March 12, 1992. Preface It is now some 50 years since ferrites debuted as an important new category of magnetic materials. They were prized for a range of properties that had no equivalents in existing metal magnetic materials, and it was not long before full-fledged research and development efforts were underway. Today, ferrites are employed in a truly wide range of applications, and the efforts of the many men and women working in the field are yielding many highly intriguing results. New, high-performance products are appearing one after another, and it would seem we have only scratched the surface of the hidden possibilities of these fascinating materials. Dr. Alex Goldman is well qualified to talk about the state of the art in ferrites. For many years Dr. Goldman has been heavily involved in the field as director of the research and development division of Spang & Co. and other enterprises. This book, Modem Ferrite Technology, based in part on his own experiences, presents a valuable overview of the field. It is testimony to his commitment and bountiful knowledge about one oftoday's most intriguing areas of technology.
Book Synopsis Canted Antiferromagnetism: Hematite by : A H Morrish
Download or read book Canted Antiferromagnetism: Hematite written by A H Morrish and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-01-16 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hematite (α-Fe2O3), the stable oxide of iron, is a major constituent of soils, rocks and the earth's crust. It has unique magnetic properties that make it the prototype for the class of materials known as canted antiferromagnets. This book has no equivalent. The mean-field theory is treated in detail, and thus the book is a useful text for students mastering this general method. Information obtained by a wide variety of experimental methods is provided. These techniques include x-ray and neutron diffraction; electron magnetic resonance; Mössbauer spectroscopy; and thermal, optical, electrical and elastic measurements. Book Synopsis An Assessment of the Prospects for Inertial Fusion Energy by : National Research Council
Download or read book An Assessment of the Prospects for Inertial Fusion Energy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-07-05 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential for using fusion energy to produce commercial electric power was first explored in the 1950s. Harnessing fusion energy offers the prospect of a nearly carbon-free energy source with a virtually unlimited supply of fuel. Unlike nuclear fission plants, appropriately designed fusion power plants would not produce the large amounts of high-level nuclear waste that requires long-term disposal. Due to these prospects, many nations have initiated research and development (R&D) programs aimed at developing fusion as an energy source. Two R&D approaches are being explored: magnetic fusion energy (MFE) and inertial fusion energy (IFE). An Assessment of the Prospects for Inertial Fusion Energy describes and assesses the current status of IFE research in the United States; compares the various technical approaches to IFE; and identifies the scientific and engineering challenges associated with developing inertial confinement fusion (ICF) in particular as an energy source. It also provides guidance on an R&D roadmap at the conceptual level for a national program focusing on the design and construction of an inertial fusion energy demonstration plant.

Book Synopsis Atom Probe Microscopy by : Baptiste Gault
Download or read book Atom Probe Microscopy written by Baptiste Gault and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-27 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atom probe microscopy enables the characterization of materials structure and chemistry in three dimensions with near-atomic resolution. This uniquely powerful technique has been subject to major instrumental advances over the last decade with the development of wide-field-of-view detectors and pulsed-laser-assisted evaporation that have significantly enhanced the instrument’s capabilities. The field is flourishing, and atom probe microscopy is being embraced as a mainstream characterization technique. This book covers all facets of atom probe microscopy—including field ion microscopy, field desorption microscopy and a strong emphasis on atom probe tomography. Atom Probe Microscopy is aimed at researchers of all experience levels. It will provide the beginner with the theoretical background and practical information necessary to investigate how materials work using atom probe microscopy techniques. This includes detailed explanations of the fundamentals and the instrumentation, contemporary specimen preparation techniques, experimental details, and an overview of the results that can be obtained. The book emphasizes processes for assessing data quality, and the proper implementation of advanced data mining algorithms. Those more experienced in the technique will benefit from the book as a single comprehensive source of indispensable reference information, tables and techniques. Both beginner and expert will value the way that Atom Probe Microscopy is set out in the context of materials science and engineering, and includes references to key recent research outcomes.
