This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the introduction of new anthracycline derivatives and anthrachi none analogues a few years ago, aclacinomycin A (Aclarubicin) has become an established agent for the treatment of hematologic malig nancies. A special symposium was therefore held during the congress of the German Society of Hermatology and Oncology in Hannover in October 1989 to provide an up-to-date overv.iew. Leading experts from the United States, Sweden, and Germany reported on the results being obtained with aclacinomycin A, alone or combined with other agents, in patients with acute leukemias and myelodysplastic syndromes. This book is based on their contributions. As regards single-agent treatment, aclacinomycin A in myelodys plastic syndromes is dealt with, as well as its application in older patients with acute myeloid leukemia. Four contributions are devoted to the use of aclacinomycin A in combination with conventional or intermediate dose cytosine arabinoside or etoposide in patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia. The results reported indicate that aclacinomycin A has substantial activity in the treatment of hematologic malignancies. In summary, this book provides a valuable update on the current status of aclacinomycin A as used by experts in the treatment of he matologic malignancies.

Book Synopsis Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs by : Carmen Avendaño
Download or read book Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs written by Carmen Avendaño and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs, Second Edition, provides an updated treatment from the point of view of medicinal chemistry and drug design, focusing on the mechanism of action of antitumor drugs from the molecular level, and on the relationship between chemical structure and chemical and biochemical reactivity of antitumor agents. Antitumor chemotherapy is a very active field of research, and a huge amount of information on the topic is generated every year. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is gradually being supplemented by a new generation of drugs that recognize specific targets on the surface or inside cancer cells, and resistance to antitumor drugs continues to be investigated. While these therapies are in their infancy, they hold promise of more effective therapies with fewer side effects. Although many books are available that deal with clinical aspects of cancer chemotherapy, this book provides a sorely needed update from the point of view of medicinal chemistry and drug design. Presents information in a clear and concise way using a large number of figures Historical background provides insights on how the process of drug discovery in the anticancer field has evolved Extensive references to primary literature
Book Synopsis Razoxane and Dexrazoxane - Two Multifunctional Agents by : Walter Rhomberg
Download or read book Razoxane and Dexrazoxane - Two Multifunctional Agents written by Walter Rhomberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Razoxane and dexrazoxane are two novel drugs with some uniquely useful features. They block cell division at the G2/M border, but nowhere else, so that they have a low toxicity profile. They suppress tumor metastasis and haemorrhages through normalization of pathological blood vessels. Razoxane potentiates radiotherapy especially in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal neoplasms. They protect normal tissues against toxic chemicals, e.g. the myocardium against anthracyclines or subcutaneous tissue against injuries caused by incidental extravasations of anthracyclines. Dexrazoxane is the only drug approved by the FDA/EMEA for the specific purpose of preventing cardiac damage when giving the widely used and effective antitumor anthracyclines. The reduction of cardiotoxicity is achieved without response reduction or reducing of time to progression of tumors. While the full analysis of their actions at the molecular level is not yet completely understood, it seems most likely that it is via an inhibition on the topoisomerase II a. Moreover, the drugs have the ability to chelate several metals including iron, copper or zinc. The protection of normal tissues is nowhere more important than that of brain, and there are indications that the proteins thought to be responsible for the ravages of Alzheimer ́s disease could be stabilized by one or both these drugs.
