Book Synopsis Synchrotron Radiation Techniques in Industrial, Chemical, and Materials Science by : Kevin L. D'Amico
Download or read book Synchrotron Radiation Techniques in Industrial, Chemical, and Materials Science written by Kevin L. D'Amico and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The individual papers that comprise this monograph are derived from two American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall National Meetings that focused on the current uses of synchrotron radiation (SR) research techniques. The first Symposium was held in Washington, DC, in August 1994, and the second convened in Chicago, IL, in August 1995. The intent of these symposia was to present a broad overview of several current topics in industrial, chemical, and materials-based SR research to a chemically inclined audience. The SR techniques covered were divided roughly into the three general fields of industrial, chemical, and materials science for this purpose. Included within these four categories are environmental, geologic, atomic/molecular, analytical, solid state physics, surface science, and biological applications of SR. There is little doubt that structural biology and environmental science are the largest growth areas in SR research as this monograph goes to press. The spirit of these symposia was to bring together the expert synchrotron radiation user with new and potential users of SR techniques. There are now a preponderance of particle storage rings, located throughout the world, devoted exclusively to the production of SR. There have been great improvements in the particle accelerators and storage rings from which SR emanates. These newest third generation SR sources are the result of the successful collaboration between SR users and accelerator physicists which has made a reality out of experiments never before possible.

Book Synopsis Characterization of Catalytic Materials by : Israel E. Wachs
Download or read book Characterization of Catalytic Materials written by Israel E. Wachs and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1992 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israel E. Wachs, the volume Editor, is Professor of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University and Director of the Vibrational Spectroscopy Laboratory in the Zettlemoyer Center for Surface Studies. Professor Wachs has done importnat research in heterogeneous catalysis while at Lehigh and, earlier, as a staff member of Exxon Research. Characterization of Catalytic Materials is a modern, comprehensive reference volume covering the analysis of catalytic materials used in commercial applications. This book provides information for understanding the performance of each class of catalytic material and discusses the applications of these materials in different kinds of technologies such as in pollution control, and chemical and petroleum processing. Each chapter is written by individuals who are internationally recognized as experts in their respective areas and is organized for easy reference by catalytic classes, and the types of surface, interface, and bulk characterization that might be sought. Written from the materials perspective, Characterization of Catalytic Materials focuses on the properties to be measured rather than on the techniques to be used.
