Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is in full-color - other editions may be in grayscale (non-color). The hardback version is ISBN 9781680920512 and the paperback version is ISBN 9781680920505. The NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Handbook (NASA/SP-2014-3705) is the companion document to NPR 7120.5E and represents the accumulation of knowledge NASA gleaned on managing program and projects coming out of NASA's human, robotic, and scientific missions of the last decade. At the end of the historic Shuttle program, the United States entered a new era that includes commercial missions to low-earth orbit as well as new multi-national exploration missions deeper into space. This handbook is a codification of the "corporate knowledge" for existing and future NASA space flight programs and projects. These practices have evolved as a function of NASA's core values on safety, integrity, team work, and excellence, and may also prove a resource for other agencies, the private sector, and academia. The knowledge gained from the victories and defeats of that era, including the checks and balances and initiatives to better control cost and risk, provides a foundation to launch us into an exciting and healthy space program of the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes a new, on-line bibliographic database of vibration-based damage detection experiments. Publications in the database discuss experiments conducted on actual structures as well as those conducted with simulated data. The database can be searched and sorted in many ways, and it provides photographs of test structures when available. It currently contains 100 publications, which is estimated to be about 5%-10% of the number of papers written to date on this subject. Additional entries are forthcoming. Download or read book NASA Aviation Safety Program Aircraft Engine Health Management Data Mining Tools Roadmap written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aircraft Engine Health Management Data Mining Tools is a project led by NASA Glenn Research Center in support of the NASA Aviation Safety Program's Aviation System Monitoring and Modeling Thrust. The objective of the Glenn-led effort is to develop enhanced aircraft engine health management prognostic and diagnostic methods through the application of data mining technologies to operational data and maintenance records. This will lead to the improved safety of air transportation, optimized scheduling of engine maintenance, and optimization of engine usage. This paper presents a road map for achieving these goals.

Download or read book Compendium of NASA Data Base for the Global Tropospheric Experiment's Pacific Exploratory Mission -- Tropics B (PEM-Tropics B) written by A. Donald Scott and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a compendium of NASA aircraft data that are available from NASA's Global Tropospheric Experiment's (GTE) Pacific Exploratory Mission-Tropics B (PEM-Tropics B) conducted in March and April 1999. PEM-Tropics B was conducted during the southern-tropical wet season when the influence from biomass burning observed in PEM-Tropics A was minimal. Major deployment sites were Hawaii, Kiritimati (Christmas Island), Tahiti, Fiji, and Easter Island. The broad goals of PEM-Tropics B were to improved understanding of the oxidizing power of the atmosphere and the processes controlling sulfur aerosol formation and to establish baseline values for chemical species that are directly coupled to the oxidizing power and aerosol loading of the troposphere.
Book Synopsis Database of Inlet and Exhaust Noise Shielding for Wedge-shaped Airframe by : Carl H. Gerhold
Download or read book Database of Inlet and Exhaust Noise Shielding for Wedge-shaped Airframe written by Carl H. Gerhold and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment to measure the noise shielding of the blended wing body design concept was developed using a simplified wedge-shaped airframe. The experimental study was conducted in the Langley Anechoic Noise Research facility. A wideband, omnidirective sound source in a simulated engine nacelle was held at locations representative of a range of engine locations above the wing. The sound field around the model was measured, with the airframe and source in place and with source alone, using an array of microphones on a rotating hoop that is also translated along an axis parallel to the airframe axis. The insertion loss was determined from the difference between the two resulting contours. Although no attempt was made to simulate the noise characteristics of a particular engine, the broadband noise source radiated sound over a range of scaled frequencies encompassing 1 and 2 times the blade passage frequency representative of a large, high-bypass-ratio turbofan engine.

Book Synopsis Wind Tunnel Evaluation of a Model Helicopter Main-Rotor Blade With Slotted Airfoils at the Tip by :
Download or read book Wind Tunnel Evaluation of a Model Helicopter Main-Rotor Blade With Slotted Airfoils at the Tip written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data for rotors using unconventional airfoils are of interest to permit an evaluation of this technology's capability to meet the U.S. Army's need for increased helicopter mission effectiveness and improved safety and survivability. Thus, an experimental investigation was conducted in the Langley Transonic Dynamics Tunnel (TDT) to evaluate the effect of using slotted airfoils in the rotor blade tip region (85 to 100 percent radius) on rotor aerodynamic performance and loads. Four rotor configurations were tested in forward flight at advance ratios from 0.15 to 0.45 and in hover in-ground effect. The hover tip Mach number was 0.627, which is representative of a design point of 4000-ft geometric altitude and a temperature of 95 degrees F. The baseline rotor configuration had a conventional single element airfoil in the tip region. A second rotor configuration had a forward-slotted airfoil with a -6 degrees slat, a third configuration had a forward-slotted airfoil with a -10 degrees slat, and a fourth configuration had an aft-slotted airfoil with a 3 degrees flap (trailing edge down). The results of this investigation indicate that the -6 degrees slat configuration offers some performance and loads benefits over the other three configurations.
