Book excerpt: summary Gripping and emotional. That's exactly what you'll find as you read this book; every page will keep you wanting more. This is the kind of book you just can't put down, and I'm sure you're going to want to read it twice. This is a story of a sweet little boy who turned out to be a bad boy, although everyone knows right from wrong. I'm sure as you read through my book, you'll understand what went wrong. From the cover, you can see the sweet little kid that nobody ever looked out for. I can remember when I was about eight years old, walking around the neighborhood looking for a church to go to. It seems I was always alone and on my own, but that doesn't bother me anymore. Not having anyone to count on through the years has made me tough and hard. I guess you could even say hard-core through the years. I've had to learn everything on my own mostly out of necessity. If my car broke down, I fixed it. When the plumbing broke, I fixed it. In fact, there's really not much I can't do, even write a book. I got the idea to write my book from my picture on the cover of this book. I would sit and look at that picture, and the inscription on the bottom "My Precious Bobby," and I would think to myself, What a joke. Nobody ever treated me precious. Or how could so many crazy things happen to one person? So please sit back and enjoy.

Book Synopsis Sovereignty by : Jean Bethke Elshtain
Download or read book Sovereignty written by Jean Bethke Elshtain and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2008-06-10 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the history of human intellectual endeavor, sovereignty has cut across the diverse realms of theology, political thought, and psychology. From earliest Christian worship to the revolutionary ideas of Thomas Jefferson and Karl Marx, the debates about sovereignty -- complete independence and self-government -- have dominated our history. In this seminal work of political history and political theory, leading scholar and public intellectual Jean Bethke Elshtain examines the origins and meanings of &"sovereignty"; as it relates to all the ways we attempt to explain our world: God, state, and self. Examining the early modern ideas of God which formed the basis for the modern sovereign state, Elshtain carries her research from theology and philosophy into psychology, showing that political theories of state sovereignty fuel contemporary understandings of sovereignty of the self. As the basis of sovereign power shifts from God, to the state, to the self, Elshtain uncovers startling realities often hidden from view. Her thesis consists in nothing less than a thorough-going rethinking of our intellectual history through its keystone concept. The culmination of over thirty years of critically applauded work in feminism, international relations, political thought, and religion, Sovereignty opens new ground for our understanding of our own culture, its past, present, and future.

It's time for the young man to find out if it's true that vampires suck – in more ways than one! The Wicked Hot Wizard of Oz Farm boy Donny Windham has two big problems: he's in the closet; and he's in love with his straight best friend! His solution? Run away from home to someplace he's not the only gay guy in a two hundred mile radius of his family's Kansas farm. Before he can leave, a tornado transports Donny and his little dog Toto to the magical Land of Oz where they encounter Lions and Tylers and Gay Bears - oh my! Donny makes new friends along the way including the scantily clad Good Warlock of the North, the sassy Scarecrow, the brokenhearted Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion. Of course, there's the small matter of the Wicked Warlock of the West who'll stop at nothing to see Donny dead! On his fantastical journey down the Yellow Brick Road towards the Emerald City to meet the Wicked Hot Wizard of Oz, Donny discovers one important thing: There's no place like home, especially if it's with the man of his dreams. The Prince and the Pill When a sexy stranger arrives at the castle, the "queen" devises a unique test to determine if his claims of being a real gay prince are true. Has Prince Andrew finally found another true gay prince with whom to share his kingdom (and his muscular body) in the Enchanted Forest? First Time with the Gay Vampire Drew Carlton is a 25 year old athletic hunk who doesn't know how good-looking he really is. He's waited a long time for the special night when he enters Club Fangtasy, nervous about his first time with a man. Especially a man who also happens to be a vampire. Ben Wilhelm won't reveal his age. (Isn't it rude to ask a vampire how old he is?) Ben's not looking for love; he's just looking for a warm place to sink his fangs for the night. When he sees the young stud across the dance floor, feelings are awakened deep within him that he hasn't experienced in over a century. The revelation of a shocking secret organization raises the stakes, putting both their lives in jeopardy. What do you do when your survival depends on someone you don't really trust? Will the dark desires and forbidden attraction between a vampire and a human lead to eternal love or the final nail in the coffin?

Book Synopsis Film and the American Presidency by : Jeff Menne
Download or read book Film and the American Presidency written by Jeff Menne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contention of Film and the American Presidency is that over the twentieth century the cinema has been a silent partner in setting the parameters of what we might call the presidential imaginary. This volume surveys the partnership in its longevity, placing stress on especially iconic presidents such as Lincoln and FDR. The contributions to this collection probe the rich interactions between these high institutions of culture and politics—Hollywood and the presidency—and argue that not only did Hollywood acting become an idiom for presidential style, but that Hollywood early on understood its own identity through the presidency’s peculiar mix of national epic and unified protagonist. Additionally, they contend that studios often made their films to sway political outcomes; that the performance of presidential personae has been constrained by the kinds of bodies (for so long, white and male) that have occupied the office, such that presidential embodiment obscures the body politic; and that Hollywood and the presidency may finally be nothing more than two privileged figures of media-age power.
