Book Synopsis Down a Country Lane by : Gary Blinco
Download or read book Down a Country Lane written by Gary Blinco and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2014-12-26 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the winter of 1948, a poorly educated jack-of-all-trades moved his ever- increasing family to a small vegetable crops' farm on the Darling Downs, in Queensland. They arrived in a horse and wagon to begin an extraordinary life of hardship and challenge in the bush. This book follows the harsh life of poverty that is eclipsed by the threads of dry humour, love and warmth that embraces a large closely-knit family. The living conditions endured are almost primitive, even for the nineteen fifties, as they fight to carve an existence from the land. His father's lingering fight with lung cancer compounds the pain of his own battle, as a National Service Soldier in the Vietnam War. The accounts of the war are graphic and poignant, and could only emerge from one who has experienced the frightening reality of combat. Highlighted through the suffering and dreams is a mother's undying devotion to her family, as she struggles to raise them, more or less on her own.

Book Synopsis Lectionary Preaching Workbook, Series VI, Cycle C by : E. Carver McGriff
Download or read book Lectionary Preaching Workbook, Series VI, Cycle C written by E. Carver McGriff and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preachers must understand the teaching techniques of parable and hyperbole, not to mention having a good background in systematic theology, in order to understand what the Bible's writers really meant.... But our responsibility is also to reduce the complexities of Bible study to such simplicities that our many listeners, ranging from busy young professional people to aging men and women of failing health to youngsters facing a variety of new temptations, can take away a saving word. (from the Preface) E. Carver McGriff provides the tools preachers need for their daunting task with some of the most timely and thought-provoking research on the lectionary texts ever made available. Included for each scriptural lesson in the lectionary are: - A listing of the applicable Revised Common, Roman Catholic, and Episcopal lectionary texts. - A description of the Psalm of the day. - A prayer for the day. - Commentary that is more than academic exegesis -- McGriff brings to the forefront those points in the lessons that relate most poignantly to our contemporary reality. - Suggested sermon titles for each of the three texts for each Sunday. - Themes and suggested directions for preaching on each text. - Several additional illustrations to enliven your preaching. Known in the Indianapolis community as a preacher with extraordinary gifts, it is no surprise at all that this work by Carver McGriff brings remarkable insights to those who look for integrity in their preaching. Carver looks at the texts with a freshness that is sure to stimulate the thought process.... Careful use of these suggestions will bring serendipities to preacher and congregation. George H. Tooze Senior Minister, First Baptist Church Indianapolis, Indiana One of America's premiere preachers, E. Carver McGriff returned home after earning two Purple Hearts during World War II to earn a degree in business administration from Butler University. Following a career as a salesman and business owner, McGriff entered Garrett Theological Seminary, where he was voted Best Preacher by the faculty and graduated with distinction. During his 26-year ministry at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Indianapolis, McGriff spearheaded his congregation's remarkable growth in membership from 900 to 4,400, with average Sunday attendance increasing from 300 to over 1,850. McGriff received an honorary degree from the University of Indianapolis and the Outstanding Alumnus award from Butler University and was voted the Distinguished Alumnus of the year by Christian Theological Seminary. McGriff was also honored in 1993 by the Governor of Indiana with the "Sagamore of the Wabash." His sermons have been distributed nationwide by the United Methodist Publishing House.

Book Synopsis My Two Katrinas by : Ms. Sarah Louise Smith
Download or read book My Two Katrinas written by Ms. Sarah Louise Smith and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about two devastating events that happened in my life in 2005. The first one was the loss of my youngest son. He left this life in a trucking accident. Most of his twenty-four years, he wanted to be a tractor trailer driver. Driving the big rig was all he wanted to do since he could walk and talk. The second one is about the home we lost two months after the passing of Anthony. Hurricane Katrina came through the Gulf Coast and destroyed our home and everything we owned. We experienced life on the street for the next week. It is an ordeal that I never want to experience again. When I left New Orleans the only thing I had left was my purse and the clothes on my back. We lost everything. I have recovered from most of the material things I lost. I was able to purchase them again. I have accepted the fact that God doesn't make mistakes and he knows what's best, but I have not totally recovered from the loss of my son. There are days that I'm totally fine. Then there are days that I feel the pain of the loss. My good days do outweigh my sad days, so I don't complain. It is God who has blessed me and brought me through and I'm grateful.

Download or read book The Third Watch written by John Smith and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of an ancient Spanish Caravel buried beneath a coquina-strewn beach near the nation's oldest city, St. Augustine, Florida is hailed by clergy as a sign from on high; scattered about the wreck are earthenware ceramics containing Hebrew documents, some dating back millennia, and the discovery causes an international media frenzy. The Jesuits claim the wreck is the property of the Church while the Israelis claim the Hebrew scribed on the parchment proves the Caravel and contents belong to the Jewish people as part of their heritage. A summer archaeological field school is organized by a local university where budding archaeologists can work alongside older, experienced archys in hopes of establishing why the vessel sailed the waters in 1527CE, not long after Spanish explorers discovered what is now considered the State of Florida. Caught between the Catholics and Jews, the press and local law enforcement, Ben David and Lindsey Hall, both graduate students in comparative religion, find themselves working the dig in the midst of several mysterious deaths connected to the discovery. The Israeli Rabbinate on one side and the Roman Catholic Vatican on the other search for ancient scrolls both sensitive and conspiratorial, and each seems willing go to whatever length necessary to find and conceal the parchment or destroy it before certain truths become public knowledge. Lindsey's research uncovers dramatic evidence proving that Yeshua could not have been killed by the Romans on Good Friday, or the Jewish Shabbat. Yeshua's sentence of death could not have been carried out on Passover, earlier in the week, during the Feast of Unleavened Bread, nor the preparation for Shabbat. Jewish law would have allowed for Yeshua's crucifixion on Wednesday. As promised, after spending 72 hours in the ground following his death, Yeshua rose on Saturday night, and Mary saw Yeshua during the Third Watch on Sunday.

When the paper is shut down, he flees arrest and begins a dangerous journey to freedom, first across a desert, at night, into Sudan, pursued by Eritrean secret police, then into secret safe houses in Kenya. Book Synopsis Our Unknown, Undeserved, Preplanned Journey by : Jan Gingrich
Download or read book Our Unknown, Undeserved, Preplanned Journey written by Jan Gingrich and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is often referred to as a journey. Without a doubt, every person who uses that analogy does so from at least a different perspective and likely a different reason. Sometimes it is because they have found life hard, and the term journey represents the struggle and its length they have experienced. There is some of that factor in our so titling the book. Other times, it is used to express finding life delivering beyond their expectations, and the experience took them where they never imagined going. There is that factor in our so titling the book also. Sometimes it is because life seems mundane, repetitious, and they feel caught in its cycle. There is nothing of that in our book. There is a poem called "Footprints in the Sand" by Mary Fishback Powers that illustrates the caring hand of God she experienced in hard times of life when she saw only one set of prints. Too often, that is all we look for""help in the parts of life's journey we think we need help with. True, we should look for that, but the promise of God to his children is, "I will never leave nor forsake you;" good or hard times. This book was written to demonstrate the truth and reality of that promise made over 200 times in various wordings of the Bible. This book was written""no, had to be written""so every child of God is alertly looking for what God is doing for them every day in ways they have not considered before. Then experience the amazement of realizing their Journey has been part of the Creator's plan from the beginning, who works all things according to his good and perfect will, so that they can know purpose and blessing in life and not just an aimless Journey.
