Book excerpt: From the depths of Mumbai's slums, a boy named Arjun dared to dream. He wouldn't just survive; he would rise. Cunning would be his weapon, the city's corrupt heart his battlefield. He vowed to shatter the old order, to become the master, not the pawn. Yet, the path to power is paved with ambition's ashes. Alliances twist and betrayals bloom amidst the chaos. Arjun's enemies multiply: ruthless gangsters, the remnants of a shattered Syndicate, and a cold-blooded Russian mafia seeking to sink its claws into the city's misery. Blood will flow. Ideals will crumble. In this desperate underworld war, Arjun will become the monster he once despised, or a forgotten corpse in the gutter. Mumbai demands a ruler, be it a tyrant or a tombstone. One question burns: Will Arjun ignite the city in his relentless climb, or will the flames of his ambition consume him entirely?

Download or read book Arjuna: Blade of the Gods written by Gaurav Garg and published by Gaurav Garg. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the vibrant tapestry of Indian mythology emerges a tale unlike any other—Arjuna: Blade of the Gods—an epic saga of celestial weapons, ancient prophecies, and the indomitable spirit of a warrior destined to shape the fate of a kingdom. Arjuna, the chosen one, is plucked from the deceptive tranquility of Hastinapur's grand celebrations, where whispers of an encroaching darkness lie hidden beneath the surface. Called upon by the gods themselves, he embarks on a perilous quest to gather fragments of forgotten power, celestial weapons scattered among realms infused with their own dangers and trials. With each step, Arjuna's power grows, but so does his awareness of the terrible toll these weapons demand. Agni, the fire god, tests his mettle in a volcanic inferno. The elusive Vayu challenges him to an aerial duel through ever-shifting skyways. In a haunting temple of illusions, Citrangada, the warrior princess, forces him to discern truth from falsehood. The shadow of an ancient power begins to take shape – Varuna, an Asura rising from the depths, driven by a thirst for revenge and dominion. Yet, this growing threat is not the only enemy Arjuna must face. Temptations linger on his path, promising false peace and an escape from the heavy mantle of responsibility. Internal battles must be fought alongside external ones, testing the limits of his spirit and questioning the very righteousness he seeks to uphold. In a world teetering on the brink of chaos, Arjuna is both a savior and a potential force of ruin. The path he carves is fraught with choices that will echo throughout time and leave an enduring mark on the realm. Friendships will be tested, lives will be lost, and sacrifices will be demanded, all leading toward a decisive battle where the destiny of Hastinapur will hang in the balance. Arjuna: Blade of the Gods is not simply a tale of a warrior claiming power, it's an exploration of the price that power exacts – on the warrior, on his loved ones, and on the world he fights for. It invites the reader to walk beside Arjuna and ponder the age-old questions – how do we define heroism? Is unshakeable duty its own kind of sacrifice? And where does the line between hero and tyrant blur?

Book Synopsis Salman Rushdie in the Cultural Marketplace by : Ana Cristina Mendes
Download or read book Salman Rushdie in the Cultural Marketplace written by Ana Cristina Mendes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking up the roles that Salman Rushdie himself has assumed as a cultural broker, gatekeeper, and mediator in various spheres of public production, Ana Cristina Mendes situates his work in terms of the contemporary production, circulation, and consumption of postcolonial texts within the workings of the cultural industries. Mendes pays particular attention to Rushdie as a public performer across various creative platforms, not only as a novelist and short story writer, but also as a public intellectual, reviewer, and film critic. Mendes argues that how a postcolonial author becomes personally and professionally enmeshed in the dealings of the cultural industries is of particular relevance at a time when the market is strictly regulated by a few multinational corporations. She contends that marginality should not be construed exclusively as a basis for understanding Rushdie’s work, since a critical grounding in marginality will predictably involve a reproduction of the traditional postcolonial binaries of oppressor/oppressed and colonizer/colonized that the writer subverts. Rather, she seeks to expand existing interpretations of Rushdie’s work, itineraries, and frameworks in order to take into account the actual conditions of postcolonial cultural production and circulation within a marketplace that is global in both orientation and effects.

It is the story of notorious gangsters like Haji Mastan, Karim Lala, Varadarajan Mudaliar, Chhota Rajan, Abu Salem, but above all, it is the story of a young man who went astray despite having a father in the police force. Dawood Ibrahim was initiated into crime as a pawn in the hands of the Mumbai police and went on to wipe out the competition and eventually became the Mumbai police’s own nemesis. The narrative encompasses several milestones in the history of crime in India, from the rise of the Pathans, formation of the Dawood gang, the first ever supari, mafia’s nefarious role in Bollywood, Dawood’s move to Karachi, and Pakistan’s subsequent alleged role in sheltering one of the most wanted persons in the world. This story is primarily about how a boy from Dongri became a don in Dubai, and captures his bravado, cunningness, focus, ambition, and lust for power in a gripping narrative. Book Synopsis Changes in India's foreign policy towards Pakistan by : Dr. Nitin Prasad
Download or read book Changes in India's foreign policy towards Pakistan written by Dr. Nitin Prasad and published by Vij Books India Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, the centre of India’s foreign policy was Pakistan. Love it or hate it. This was the country that the external affairs ministry had to break its head over most of the times. You can’t brush off four wars (1947-48, 1965, 1971 and 1999), two conflicts (Rann of Kutch and Siachen), militancy in Kashmir that claimed tens of thousands of lives and terrorist attacks all over India. Pakistan and India literally split on an ideological basis, due to the notion of the two-nation theory, and that Muslims cannot live as a minority in Hindu India. Dispute over Kashmir emphasises this divide, and it is still brought up even to this day. India has had to fight 4 wars with Pakistan, and since 1980’s, when Soviets started to get involved in Afghanistan, USA and Pakistan started anti-Soviet terrorism, and Pakistan had the bright idea to use it against India, further worsening relations between the two nations, especially when military coup has meant that the war-hungry military has been in power, and this led to the 1965 war and the Kargil War. The foreign policy of Narendra Modi concerns the policy initiatives made towards other states by the current Modi government after he assumed office as Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014. The Ministry of External Affairs, headed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj (the first woman to hold the office since Indira Gandhi), is responsible for carrying out the foreign policy of India. Although the book has involved considerable empirical research, it is not simply fact-finding enterprise. It is also a prescriptive and analytical study intended to create and influence opinion regarding the essentials of policy-making process that would minimize the chances of non-rationality in Indian Foreign Policy.
Book Synopsis Representations of Precarity in South Asian Literature in English by : Om Prakash Dwivedi

This book was released on 2022-10-15 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes precarious conditions and their manifestations in recent South Asian literature in English. Themes of disability, rural-urban division, caste, terrorism, poverty, gender, necropolitics, and uneven globalization are discussed in this book by established and emerging international scholars. Drawing their arguments from literary works rooted in the neoliberal period, the chapters show how the extractive ideology of neoliberalism invades the cultural, political, economic, and social spheres of postcolonial South Asia. The book explores different forms of “precarity” to investigate the vulnerable and insecure life conditions embodied in the everyday life of South Asia, enabling the reader to see through the rhetoric of “rising Asia”.
Book Synopsis The Art of Comforting by : Val Walker
Download or read book The Art of Comforting written by Val Walker and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-10-28 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an increasingly "virtual" world in which it can be tempting to skip making that true, human connection with someone in pain. Even though our thoughts might be with them, we lack the confidence to reach out, worrying that we will say or do the "wrong" thing. In this practical, step-by-step guide to what she calls "the art of comforting," Val Walker draws on numerous interviews with "Master Comforters" to guide readers in gently and gracefully breaking through the walls that those who are suffering often erect around themselves. Interviewees include inspiring individuals such as Alicia Rasin, who, as a victim's advocate for the city of Richmond, Virginia, has devoted her life to comforting grieving families devastated by homicide, gang violence, and other traumatic experiences; or Patricia Ellen, who, as a grief counselor and outreach director at the Center for Grieving Children in Portland, Maine, appears on site to support and comfort children, staff, and parents when a school is facing a death, violence, or other crises. All of us will, at one time or the other, be called upon to offer warmth and support to another human being who is suffering-this book will show you how to answer the call with an open heart.
