This book was released on 2020-08-30 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deterministic Numerical Methods for Unstructured-Mesh Neutron Transport Calculation presents the latest deterministic numerical methods for neutron transport equations (NTEs) with complex geometry, which are of great demand in recent years due to the rapid development of advanced nuclear reactor concepts and high-performance computational technologies. This book covers the wellknown methods proposed and used in recent years, not only theoretical modeling but also numerical results. This book provides readers with a very thorough understanding of unstructured neutron transport calculations and enables them to develop their own computational codes. The fundamentals, numerical discretization methods, algorithms, and numerical results are discussed. Researchers and engineers from utilities and research institutes are provided with examples on how to model an advanced nuclear reactor, which they can then apply to their own research projects and lab settings. - Combines the theoretical models with numerical methods and results in one complete resource - Presents the latest progress on the topic in an easy-to-navigate format

Book Synopsis The Los Alamos Primer by : Robert Serber
Download or read book The Los Alamos Primer written by Robert Serber and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than seventy years ago, American forces exploded the first atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, causing great physical and human destruction. The young scientists at Los Alamos who developed the bombs, which were nicknamed Little Boy and Fat Man, were introduced to the basic principles and goals of the project in March 1943, at a crash course in new weapons technology. The lecturer was physicist Robert Serber, J. Robert Oppenheimer's protégé, and the scientists learned that their job was to design and build the world's first atomic bombs. Notes on Serber's lectures were gathered into a mimeographed document titled TheLos Alamos Primer, which was supplied to all incoming scientific staff. The Primer remained classified for decades after the war. Published for the first time in 1992, the Primer offers contemporary readers a better understanding of the origins of nuclear weapons. Serber's preface vividly conveys the mingled excitement, uncertainty, and intensity felt by the Manhattan Project scientists. This edition includes an updated introduction by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Richard Rhodes. A seminal publication on a turning point in human history, The Los Alamos Primer reveals just how much was known and how terrifyingly much was unknown midway through the Manhattan Project. No other seminar anywhere has had greater historical consequences.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Reactor Systems by : Bertrand Barre
Download or read book Nuclear Reactor Systems written by Bertrand Barre and published by . This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of nuclear reactors since the 1942 Fermi experiment can be described along the lines of natural history, with an initial flourish of uninhibited creativity followed by a severe selection process leading to a handful of surviving species, with light water reactors occupying most of the biotope today. This book combines four approaches: A descriptive one. This gives an overview of the main strengths and weaknesses of the different reactor systems. A historical approach, from the 1940's to nowadays, with an extrapolation to the near future. The LWR dominance being firmly established, what is the next step? An axiomatic approach. Starting with a set of long term criteria concerning the fuel cycle sustainability, a conceptual solution is established, and then a family of reactor systems is selected for development and qualification. A dynamic approach. In the early 2000s, the prevailing image combined a "nuclear renaissance," a strong limitation of the greenhouse gases concentration and a dynamic growth of the world economy. Updating the strategy in the wake of the last decade events requires a sharper understanding of the driving forces as well as of the influence of the post-Fukushima safety framework on the design constraints. All the books of the "Genie Atomique" series have adopted an instructional approach. Initially intended for INSTN's students, they can be greatly helpful to physicists and engineers involved in the development or operational aspects of nuclear power."
Book Synopsis The Mathematical Development of the End-point Method by : S. Frankel
Download or read book The Mathematical Development of the End-point Method written by S. Frankel and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The end-point method is mathematically developed and its application to the Milne kernel studied in detail. The general solution of the Wiener-Hopf integral equation is first obtained. The Mime kernel appears in applying this method to the integral equation describing the diffusion and multiplication of neutrons in multiplying and scattering media. The neutrons are treated as monochromatic, isotropically scattered and of the same total mean free path in all materials involved. Only problems with spherical symmetry are treated, these being reducible to equivalent infinite slab problems. Solutions are obtained for tamped and untamped spheres; in the former case both growing and decaying exponential asymptotic solutions in the tamper are treated in detail. Appendix I treats the effects of the approximations inherent in the end-point method (cf. LADC - 79). Appendix II gives the solution of the inhomogeneous Wiener-Hopf equation. (AN)
