Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within each of us are emotions that scale the heights of praise then sink so deep we are beyond the reach of light. In those depths we hold a notion that we cannot lift ourselves out, but there must be a power that can save. "Follow me," Jesus said. From the first immersion that birthed earth from water, to the Hebrew mikveh that requires baptism in a natural body of water, to the Pentecost immersing believers into the age of the church, water is the signature of God. The ocean is the heartbeat of earth, covering 70 percent of the planet, pulsing warmth to the continents, wearing the moods of the sky, answering only to heaven. As the ocean becomes laden with contaminants and the bonds of family unravel, science and scripture merge in an ongoing conversation about the water that both separates and unites humanity. More Than the Sound of Many Waters reflects the challenge for us to let go of the shore, entirely submerge, breathless and weightless, transforming beyond the shallows into the covenant of salt. The water of judgment is held back as the people of God pass through.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our beliefs determine how we behave personally, and also our lawful standards as well. Misplaced faith and worship has led many far from truth. God is not tolerant toward sin or the rejection of truth. His ways are not our ways, and wisdom and salvation only come through His way. Christ is the fulfilment of God's love for us and His word which is the guide. God has made Himself known to all through nature, His written word, and in the person of Christ. Our understanding and acceptance of God will determine our lives as individuals and as a society more than any other beliefs. God has set the standard for love and moral living, and when we honor Him, we will become what's needed by our fellow man. Wisdom and truth are God's, and all substitutes will not stand. Only in God should we trust.

Book excerpt: One of Newsweek’s Best Books of the Year and winner of the Robert Kirsch Award for Lifetime Achievement. A cornerstone of the scriptural canon, the Book of Psalms has been a source of solace and joy for countless readers over millennia. This timeless poetry is beautifully wrought by a scholar whose translation of the Five Books of Moses was hailed as a “godsend” by Seamus Heaney and a “masterpiece” by Robert Fagles. Alter’s The Book of Psalms captures the simplicity, the physicality, and the coiled rhythmic power of the Hebrew, restoring the remarkable eloquence of these ancient poems. His learned and insightful commentary illuminates the obscurities of the text.

Book excerpt: The idea of this women's magazine originated with Samuel Williams, a Cincinnati Methodist, who thought that Christian women needed a magazine less worldly than Godey's Lady's Book and Snowden's Lady's Companion. Written largely by ministers, this exceptionally well-printed little magazine contained well-written essays of a moral character, plenty of poetry, articles on historical and scientific matters, and book reviews. Among western writers were Alice Cary, who contributed over a hundred sketches and poems, her sister Phoebe Cary, Otway Curry, Moncure D. Conway, and Joshua R. Giddings; and New England contributors included Mrs. Lydia Sigourney, Hannah F. Gould, and Julia C.R Dorr. By 1851, each issue published a peice of music and two steel plates, usually landscapes or portraits. When Davis E. Clark took over the editorship in 1853, the magazine became brighter and attained a circulation of 40,000. Unlike his predecessors, Clark included fictional pieces and made the Repository a magazine for the whole family. After the war it began to decline and in 1876 was replaced by the National Repository. The Ladies' Repository was an excellent representative of the Methodist mind and heart. Its essays, sketches, and poems, its good steel engravings, and its moral tone gave it a charm all its own. -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not far from Seattle skyscrapers live 150-year-old clams, more than 250 species of fish, and underwater kelp forests as complex as any terrestrial ecosystem. For millennia, vibrant Coast Salish communities have lived beside these waters dense with nutrient-rich foods, with cultures intertwined through exchanges across the waterways. Transformed by settlement and resource extraction, Puget Sound and its future health now depend on a better understanding of the region’s ecological complexities. Focusing on the area south of Port Townsend and between the Cascade and Olympic mountains, Williams uncovers human and natural histories in, on, and around the Sound. In conversations with archaeologists, biologists, and tribal authorities, Williams traces how generations of humans have interacted with such species as geoducks, salmon, orcas, rockfish, and herring. He sheds light on how warfare shaped development and how people have moved across this maritime highway, in canoes, the mosquito fleet, and today’s ferry system. The book also takes an unflinching look at how the Sound’s ecosystems have suffered from human behavior, including pollution, habitat destruction, and the effects of climate change. Witty, graceful, and deeply informed, Homewaters weaves history and science into a fascinating and hopeful narrative, one that will introduce newcomers to the astonishing life that inhabits the Sound and offers longtime residents new insight into and appreciation of the waters they call home. More than a passage, it is a day-by-day reality where deep abiding friendship takes hold. Side by side with Jesus, readers discover the greatest friendship in the universe as it was intended to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Precisely Literal, Richly Revealing" Pairing the most literal English translation available with an illuminating in-text exposition of each verse in the Bible, this outstanding resource will helps strengthen your grasp on God's Word. By comparing the precise NASB with the magnified sentence structure of the Amplified Bible, readers are better able to appreciate the meaning of the scriptures as understood by their audience in the original languages. Known for its word-for-word literal accuracy, the New American Standard Bible, updated edition, is the #1 choice for in-depth inductive Bible study. And through its unique use of synonyms and definitions, the Amplified Bible both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text by placing amplification in parentheses and brackets after key words or phrases. Through multiple expressions, greater emphasis is given to the divine message as reflected in the original Greek and Hebrew. Now readers can benefit from both translation approaches with this side-by-side comparison that offers a more enriching experience with God's Word. NASB 12--For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13--But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. AMPLIFED BIBLE 12--For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection of realitys in a riddle or enigma], but then when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood by God]. 13--And so faith, hope, love abide faith--conviction and belief respecting man's relation to God and divine things; hope--joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love--true affection for God and man, growing out of God's love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could the cry “Come out of her My people” (Rev 18:4) not be needed more today than it was when John penned the Apocalypse? The book of Revelation begins and ends with the affirmation that God is the world’s true Lord, not Caesar. In telling this story, John lays out for us the fact that Christ’s kingdom is not like the kingdoms of the world. The kingdoms of the world rule by force and at the expense of the masses and for the benefit of those in power. Jesus’s kingdom, however, comes through love. In Christ’s kingdom, power is demonstrated by laying down one’s life for one’s enemies. Jesus, of course, demonstrated this kind of love on the cross, and he calls us to do the same. We have nothing to fear. After all, Jesus was dead and now he is alive and he has the keys to Death and Hades. Unfortunately, many interpreters have come to believe that the devastation and destruction depicted in the book of Revelation—in particular, in the accounts of the Seven Seals and the Seven Bowls—are God’s end-times wrath. But have we ever stopped to consider that this portrait of God is fundamentally at odds with the gospel? And with Jesus’s call for us to love one another even as he loved us? The book of Revelation tells a different story.

The majority of them are based on Isaiah 11:2. In his book The Seven Spirits of God: A New and True Revelation, D.W. Knight shows how the full revelation of the Seven Spirits of God is not contained in Isaiah 11:2. You will also learn: How the revelation of the Seven Spirits of God is contained within the writing of the Book of Revelation. The identity and function of each of the Seven Spirits of God. How the Seven Spirits of God line up with the colors of the rainbow. About the principle of duality and how it connects to the Seven Spirits of God. How the Seven Spirits of God work in the life of the believer. What the purpose of the seven horns and seven eyes that are mentioned in connection with the Seven Spirits of God. How miracles, healing, mighty signs and wonders are connected with the true revelation of the Seven Spirits of God. The Seven Spirits of God a New and True Revelation is heavily based on the Word of God. With every point that is explained there is scripture to confirm it. If you are a person that loves to study the Bible and the teaching and revelation of the Holy Spirit, you will love the writing contained in this book.
