Nicht nur in der Gesellschaft, sondern auch in der Wirtschaft stellt sich derzeit die Frage, ob und wie ethisches und moralisches Handeln bestmöglich integriert werden können. Wirtschaft und Moral werden oft als Gegensätze erachtet, da Unternehmen in der globalisierten Welt und Wirtschaft kaum Platz für gesellschaftliche Belange in ihrer Unternehmenspolitik finden. Jedoch sollten es erfolgsorientierte Unternehmen vermeiden ihren unternehmerischen Erfolg, zum Beispiel Gewinnmaximierung etc., isoliert von Ethik und Moral zu betrachten. Ohne ethische Prinzipien und ausgeprägtes Gerechtigkeitsgefühl kann ein Unternehmen langfristig gesehen nur schwer zum Erfolg geführt werden, ohne Imageverluste zu erleiden. Die aktuelle Weltwirtschaftskrise zeigt deutlich und mit aller Härte, was es bedeutet bzw. für Folgen mit sich bringt, wenn Egoismus vor dem Allgemeinwohl steht und ethisches und moralisches Handeln in den Hintergrund rücken. Der Unmut der Gesellschaft durch überzogene Managergehälter, Boni und Abfindungen wird lauter, es ist demnach an der Zeit umzudenken und neue, nachhaltige Konzepte zu entwickeln. Diese Seminararbeit soll u.a. auf die Grundsätze der Wirtschafts- und Unternehmensethik, soziale Verantwortung im Unternehmen und die Auswirkungen der Weltwirtschaftskrise eingehen.

Hierzu werde ich eine Eingrenzung des Begriffs Moral als ethischen Grundbegriff vornehmen und versuchen, die Wichtigkeit moralischer Fragen in Zusammenhang mit der gegenwärtigen Gesellschaft zu stellen. In einem weiteren Schritt wird die Rolle von Moral in der Wirtschaft näher erörtert, wobei auf verschiedene Ansätze mit unterschiedlichen Gewichtungen und Rollen hinzuweisen ist. Anschließend werden zwei ausgewählte Erklärungsansätze (Ordnungsethik sowie Integrative Wirtschaftsethik) präsentiert, welche in der Wirtschaftsethik Anwendung finden und Alternativen für moralische Handlungsbewertungen liefern. Daraufhin wird der Begriff „Wirtschaftsordnung“ beleuchtet. Im Folgenden werden theoriegeleitete Vorstellungen im Hinblick auf Ziele und Werte der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft behandelt, wobei auch auf die Wirtschaftsethik als moralische Grundlage der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft eingegangen wird. Die moralische Beurteilung der Wirtschaftsethik soll am Beispiel des Sozialen Marktwirtschaft als relevantes Thema der angewandten Philosophie diskutiert werden. Im letzten Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit werden verschiedene Sichtweisen (soziales Anliegen, christliche Wurzeln, Ordnung und Freiheit sowie gegenwärtige wirtschaftsethische Debatten und die Soziale Marktwirtschaft) im Hinblick auf ethische Grundlagen der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft gegenübergestellt. Im Resümee werden schließlich die wichtigsten Ergebnisse zusammengefasst sowie ein Ausblick auf die mögliche Weiterentwicklung der Rolle der Moral in der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft gegeben.

In the last chapter, Stelzer provides his own account of a problem solving ethics by combining Karl Popper’s fallibilism with the wide reflective equilibrium of John Rawls.

It was only in the nineteenth century that economy came to mean the production and circulation of goods and services. At the same time, the term started to be used in an explicitly critical tone: references to moral economy were normally critical of modern forms of economy, which were purportedly lacking in morals. In our times, too, the morality of capitalism is often the topic of debate and controversy. "Moral Economies" engages in these debates. Using historical case studies from the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries the book discusses the degree to which economic actions and decisions were permeated with moral, good-vs-bad classifications. Moreover it shows how strongly antiquity's concept of "embedded" economy is still powerful in modernity. The model for this was often the private household, in which moral, social, and economic behavior patterns were intertwined. The do-it-yourself movement of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries was still oriented towards this model, thereby criticizing capitalism on moral grounds.
