Book Synopsis Modelling and Applications of Transport Phenomena in Porous Media by : Jacob Bear
Download or read book Modelling and Applications of Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Jacob Bear and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-11-30 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport phenomenain porous media are encounteredin various disciplines, e. g. , civil engineering, chemical engineering, reservoir engineering, agricul tural engineering and soil science. In these disciplines, problems are en countered in which various extensive quantities, e. g. , mass and heat, are transported through a porous material domain. Often, the void space of the porous material contains two or three fluid phases, and the various ex tensive quantities are transported simultaneously through the multiphase system. In all these disciplines, decisions related to a system's development and its operation have to be made. To do so a tool is needed that will pro vide a forecast of the system's response to the implementation of proposed decisions. This response is expressed in the form of spatial and temporal distributions of the state variables that describe the system's behavior. Ex amples of such state variables are pressure, stress, strain, density, velocity, solute concentration, temperature, etc. , for each phase in the system, The tool that enables the required predictions is the model. A model may be defined as a simplified version of the real porous medium system and the transport phenomena that occur in it. Because the model is a sim plified version of the real system, no unique model exists for a given porous medium system. Different sets of simplifying assumptions, each suitable for a particular task, will result in different models.

Book Synopsis Advances in Transport Phenomena in Porous Media by : Jacob Bear
Download or read book Advances in Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Jacob Bear and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1018 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures presented at the NATO ADVANCED STUDY INSTITUTE that took place at Newark, Delaware, U. S. A. , July 14-23, 1985. The objective of this meeting was to present and discuss selected topics associated with transport phenomena in porous media. By their very nature, porous media and phenomena of transport of extensive quantities that take place in them, are very complex. The solid matrix may be rigid, or deformable (elastically, or following some other constitutive relation), the void space may be occupied by one or more fluid phases. Each fluid phase may be composed of more than one component, with the various components capable of interacting among themselves and/or with the solid matrix. The transport process may be isothermal or non-isothermal, with or without phase changes. Porous medium domains in which extensive quantities, such as mass of a fluid phase, component of a fluid phase, or heat of the porous medium as a whole, are being transported occur in the practice in a variety of disciplines.

Book Synopsis Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Rotating Porous Media by : Peter Vadasz
Download or read book Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Rotating Porous Media written by Peter Vadasz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book concentrates the available knowledge on rotating fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media in one single reference. Dr. Vadasz develops the fundamental theory of rotating flow and heat transfer in porous media and introduces systematic classification and identification of the relevant problems. An initial distinction between rotating flows in isothermal heterogeneous porous systems and natural convection in homogeneous non-‐isothermal porous systems provides the two major classes of problems to be considered. A few examples of solutions to selected problems are presented, highlighting the significant impact of rotation on the flow in porous media.
Book Synopsis Vortex Dominated Flows by : Denis L. Blackmore
Download or read book Vortex Dominated Flows written by Denis L. Blackmore and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honoring the contributions of one of the field's leading experts, Lu Ting, this indispensable volume contains important new results at the cutting edge of research. A wide variety of significant new analytical and numerical results in critical areas are presented, including point vortex dynamics, superconductor vortices, cavity flows, vortex breakdown, shock/vortex interaction, wake flows, magneto-hydrodynamics, rotary wake flows, and hypersonic vortex phenomena. The book will be invaluable for those interested in the state of the art of vortex dominated flows, both from a theoretical and applied perspective.Professor Lu Ting and Joe Keller have worked together for over 40 years. In their first joint work entitled ?Periodic vibrations of systems governed by nonlinear partial differential equations?, perturbation analysis and bifurcation theory were used to determine the frequencies and modes of vibration of various physical systems. The novelty was the application to partial differential equations of methods which, previously, had been used almost exclusively on ordinary differential equations. Professsor Lu Ting is an expert in both fluid dynamics and the use of matched asymptotic expansions. His physical insight into fluid flows has led the way to finding the appropriate mathematical simplications used in the solutions to many difficult flow problems.
Book Synopsis Bio-aggregates Based Building Materials by : Sofiane Amziane
Download or read book Bio-aggregates Based Building Materials written by Sofiane Amziane and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-04 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work of the RILEM Technical Committee (TC -236 BBM) was dedicated to the study of construction materials made from plant particles. It considered the question whether building materials containing as main raw material recyclable and easily available plant particles are renewable. This book includes a state-of-the-art report and an appendix. The state-of-the-art report relates to the description of vegetal aggregates. Then, hygrothermal properties, fire resistance, durability and finally the impact of the variability of the method of production of bio-based concrete are assessed. The appendix is a TC report which presents the experience of a working group. The goal was to define testing methods for the measurement of water absorption, bulk density, particle size distribution, and thermal conductivity of bio aggregates. The work is based on a first round robin test of the TC-BBM where the protocols in use by the different laboratories (labs) are compared. p>

Book Synopsis Modeling in Transport Phenomena by : Ismail Tosun
Download or read book Modeling in Transport Phenomena written by Ismail Tosun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-07-17 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling in Transport Phenomena, Second Edition presents and clearly explains with example problems the basic concepts and their applications to fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering and thermodynamics. A balanced approach is presented between analysis and synthesis, students will understand how to use the solution in engineering analysis. Systematic derivations of the equations and the physical significance of each term are given in detail, for students to easily understand and follow up the material. There is a strong incentive in science and engineering to understand why a phenomenon behaves the way it does. For this purpose, a complicated real-life problem is transformed into a mathematically tractable problem while preserving the essential features of it. Such a process, known as mathematical modeling, requires understanding of the basic concepts. This book teaches students these basic concepts and shows the similarities between them. Answers to all problems are provided allowing students to check their solutions. Emphasis is on how to get the model equation representing a physical phenomenon and not on exploiting various numerical techniques to solve mathematical equations. A balanced approach is presented between analysis and synthesis, students will understand how to use the solution in engineering analysis. Systematic derivations of the equations as well as the physical significance of each term are given in detail Many more problems and examples are given than in the first edition - answers provided
