This book was released on 1995 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverted-Annular Film-Boiling (IAFB) is one of the post-burnout heat transfer modes taking place during the reflooding phase of the loss-of-coolant accident, when the liquid at the quench front is subcooled. Under IAFB conditions, a continuous, liquid core is separated from the wall by a superheated vapour film. the heat transfer rate in IAFB is influenced by the flooding rate, liquid subcooling, pressure, and the wall geometry and temperature. These influences can be accounted by a two-fluid model with physically sound closure laws for mass, momentum and heat transfers between the wall, the vapour film, the vapour-liquid interface, and the liquid core. Such closure laws have been developed and adjusted using IAFB-relevant experimental results, including heat flux, wall temperature and void fraction data. The model is extensively assessed against data from three independent sources. A total of 46 experiments have been analyzed. The overall predictions are good. The IAFB-specific closure laws proposed have also intrinsic value, and may be used in other two-fluid models. They should allow to improve the description of post-dryout, low quality heat transfer by the safety codes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An approach for the solution of transient-forced convection film boiling on an isothermal flat plate using the boundary layer model is developed. The similarity variables are used to convert the governing partial differential equations to ordinary ones. The results of numerical solutions of these ordinary equations indicate that the transient process can be classified as one-dimensional conduction, intermediate, and the steady state regions. The time required for the one-dimensional conduction and the time necessary to attain a steady state condition are obtained. The influence of interfacial shear is seen to be negligible while the Prandtl Number and the ratio (C sub p delta T divided by h sub fg times Pr) have major influence. The use of local similarity approximations for the intermediate regime facilitates prediction of complete boundary layer growth. Using the ratio of time at any instant to the steady state time as abscissa, the curves representing the boundary layer growth can be merged into a single mean curve within 5 percent. Further, the analysis shows that the average rate of heat transfer during transient is 50 to 100 percent higher than those at steady state. The average rate of vapor convected away is 10 to 15 percent lower than at steady state while the average rate of accumulation to form the vapor layer is 1 to 14 times larger. Further, the total heat transferred during transient increases and the evaporation decreases for increasing values of C sub p delta T divided by h sub fg times Pr.

This book was released on 1981 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On its original publication in 1973, this book was the first reference for engineers to fully present the science of boiling and condensation. It dealt especially with the problems of estimating heat transfer rates and pressure drops, with particular attention to the occurrence of boiling and condensation in the presence of forced flows within pipes. The new third edition was written primarily for design and development engineers in the chemical process, power generation, and refrigeration industries, and is meant to be an aid in the design of heat exchangers. It covers recent advances and significantly broadens coverage to flows over tube bundles, with extensive new treatment of two-phase heat transfer regarding refrigerants and petrochemicals. Many new problems have been added at the end of each chapter to enhance the book's use as a text in advanced courses on two-phase flow and heat transfer. Instructors using the book as a course text may obtain full solutions to the end-of-chapter problems by writing to: Science Marketing Dept., Oxford University Press, 198 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016 (please include school name and course identification), or by faxing (212) 726-6442.
