This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes a revised conceptual hydrogeologic model of regional groundwater flow in the crystalline rocks of the Whiteshell Research Area, Manitoba. Model boundaries were selected to coincide with the natural hydraulic boundaries assumed for the regional groundwater flow systems in the area. Rocks of the modelled region were divided on the basis of fracture characteristics into three categories: fractured zones, moderately fractured rock, and sparsely fractured rock. A fault framework formed by 76 selected fractured zones was constructed by linking the more prominent lineaments identified from satellite and airborne surveys, surface mapping, and borehole data. Physical rock/water properties were used to define a mathematical groundwater flow model, whose hydraulic properties were modified using an iterative process including sensitivity analysis and comparison with field measurements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding water circulation in rocks represents a very important element to solving many of the problems linked with civil, environmental and mining engineering. This book offers a synthesis of the actual knowledge about the fluid flow in rocks: - from the medium characterization and the structural geological survey to the generation of stereonets; - the evaluation of the hydrogeological parameters using either deterministic or probabilistic methodologies; - the evaluation of the preferential flow direction considering the change of the hydrogeological structures; - the methods and models used to simulate the flows. Three case studies are provided; water circulation and slope instability, hydrogeological risk linked with tunnelling, and hydrogeological risk linked with road construction.

Book excerpt: Case Studies in Geospatial Applications to Groundwater Resources provides thorough the most up-to-date techniques in GIS and geostatistics as they relate to groundwater, through detailed case studies that prove real-world applications of remote sensing applications to this subject. Groundwater is the primary source of fresh water in many parts of the world, while come regions are becoming overly dependent on it, consuming groundwater faster than it is naturally replenished and causing water tables to decline unremittingly. India is the largest user of groundwater in the world followed by China and the USA, with developing countries using groundwater at an unsustainable rate. Systematic planning of groundwater usage using modern techniques is essential for the proper utilization, management and modeling of this precious but shrinking natural resource. With the advent of powerful and highspeed personal computers, efficient techniques for water management have evolved, of which remote sensing, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and Geostatistical techniques are of great significance. This book advances the scientific understanding, development, and application of geospatial technologies related to water resource management. Case Studies in Geospatial Applications to Groundwater Resources is a valuable reference for researchers and postgraduate students in Earth and Environmental Sciences, especially GIS, agriculture, hydrology, natural resources, and soil science, who need to be able to apply the latest technologies in groundwater research in a practical manner. - Provides detailed case studies on groundwater resources around the world, including regions with highest groundwater resource use - Covers modern remote sensing and geostatistical technique-based groundwater resource mapping, monitoring, and modelling - Describes novel region-specific management strategies and techniques for sustainability with case studies to illustrate effectiveness - Includes practical coverage of the use of geospatial analysis techniques in groundwater resources

Book excerpt: Current manuals and technical books on ground water hydrology contain relatively little specific information on ground water in hard rocks areas, that is mainly igneous and metamorphic rocks of the Precambrian shield areas. This work is intented to fill this gap and to inform of the possibilities of finding and developing water resources in hard rocks areas
