Book Synopsis Dattātreya: The Immortal Guru, Yogin, and Avatāra by : Antonio Rigopoulos
Download or read book Dattātreya: The Immortal Guru, Yogin, and Avatāra written by Antonio Rigopoulos and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1998-04-02 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the multi-faceted Hindu deity Dattatreya from his Puranic emergence up to modern times. Dattatreya's Brahmanical portrayal, as well as his even more archaic characterization as a Tantric antinomian figure, combines both Vaisnava Saiva motifs. Over the course of time, Dattatreya has come to embody the roles of the immortal guru, yogin and avatara in a paradigmatic manner. From the sixteenth century Dattatreya's glorious characterization emerged as the incarnation of the trimurti of Brahma, Visnu, and Siva. Although Maharastra is the heartland of Dattatreya devotion, his presence is attested to throughout India and extends beyond the boundaries of Hinduism, being met with in Sufi circles and even in Buddhism and Jainism via Nathism. The scarce attention which most Western scholars of Indian religions have paid to this deity contrasts with its ubiquitousness and social permeability. Devotion to Dattatreya cuts through all social and religious strata of Indian society: among his adepts we find yogis, Brahmans, faqirs, Devi worshippers, untouchables, thieves, and prostitutes. This book explores all primary religious dimensions: myth, doctrine, ritual, philosophy, mysticism, and iconography. The comprehensive result offers a rich fresco of Hindu religion as well as an understanding of Marathi integrative spirituality: precisely this complexity of themes constitutes Dattatreya's uniqueness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management of benign anorectal disorders is challenging for the treating surgeons as the patients are highly distressed, the symptoms are always alarming, and surgical intervention may be associated with lifelong disabilities such as loss of sphincter control. Written by highly experienced colorectal surgeons, this book provides detailed notes on optimal management of these disorders including pre- and post-operative management. Chapters cover the entire range of benign disorders such as hemorrhoids, fissure, fistula-in-ano, anorectal injuries, anal incontinence, rectal prolapse, pelvic floor disorders, benign tumors and ulcers, and strictures. Chapters on surgical anatomy and physiology equip the surgeons with the information necessary to understand the complex anatomy and functioning of this region which makes surgery all the more difficult. Benign Anorectal Disorders is an essential reading for colorectal surgeons, general surgeons, fellows-in-training and the post-graduate students.

Book Synopsis Postpartum Hemorrhage and Cesarean Section by : Dallas Brewer
Download or read book Postpartum Hemorrhage and Cesarean Section written by Dallas Brewer and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection, a combined method of preventing and stopping a postpartum obstetric hemorrhage is proposed, involving surgical hemostasis by ligation of the descending branch of the uterine artery and placement of a hemostatic external supraplacental pleated suture, as well as mechanical compression of the uterine cavity with both vaginal and uterine Zhukovsky catheters, and coagulopathy management using thromboelastography (TEG). Uterine hemostatic sutures and their advantages and disadvantages are described in detail, and the benefits of the innovative external supraplacental pleated suture are discussed. Intrauterine balloon tamponade (IUBT) devices have been shown to to be an effective management for severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) resulting from uterine atony as well as placental site bleeding. IUBT have now been incorporated into standard protocols for management of severe PPH as a second line conservative surgical procedure due to its simplicity and relatively non-invasive nature. In recent decades, the use of second line procedures has rapidly increased and the effectiveness of these second-line procedures in reducing hysterectomy has been demonstrated in literature. Among these various second line procedures, the use of uterine balloon tamponade increased most rapidly. Balloon tamponade is less invasive and easier to apply than other second line management. Intrauterine balloon tamponade should probably be the first second-line procedure to consider in management of severe PPH. Lastly, the book discusses how anesthesia in pregnant women with rare diseases is challenging. Because of the low occurrence and heterogeneity of these diseases, most anesthesiologists are not familiar with the symptomatology, associated comorbidities, and their consequences for anesthesia. The authors suggest that peroperative monitoring should primarily focus on the cardiopulmonary system, the depth of the neuromuscular block, and the core temperature. Because of the high risk of respiratory depression following general anesthesia in patients with rare diseases, these patients should be closely monitored during the postoperative period, with an emphasis on complete reversal of neuromuscular blockade.
