Book Synopsis Planning Canadian Regions by : Gerald Hodge
Download or read book Planning Canadian Regions written by Gerald Hodge and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planning Canadian Regions is the first book to consolidate the history, evolution, current practice, and future prospects for regional planning in Canada. As planners grapple with challenges wrought by globalization, the evolution of massive new city-regions, and the pressures of sustainable and community development, a deeper understanding of Canada's approaches is invaluable. Hodge and Robinson identify the conceptual and historical foundations of regional planning and propose a new planning paradigm that emphasizes regional governance and greater inclusiveness and integration of physical planning with planning for economic sustainability and natural ecosystems.
Book Synopsis A Guide to Planning and Support for Individuals Who Are Deafblind by : John McInnes
Download or read book A Guide to Planning and Support for Individuals Who Are Deafblind written by John McInnes and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1999-12-15 with total page 863 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this ground-breaking collection, leading experts in the field address the problems of parents, intervenors, and professionals who work with people who have been deafblind since birth or from a very early age. Individuals who are congenitally deafblind face the same challenges as those who become deafblind later in life, but they have not had the same opportunity to develop the communications skills and a conceptual base needed to construct an understanding of the world. The contributors address identification of deafblindness, planning and intervention, development, family support, and education. Just as McInnes and Treffry's "Deafblind Infants and Children" helped to change the approach to and the perception of deafblind children, this collection will assist in fostering a new approach to the education of and support for older children, youth and adults who are deafblind. An essential part of this process is to set forth standards for program development, implementation, and evaluation, which this volume aims to accomplish. It will make an essential contribution to the expanding field of services for the deafblind population of all ages, and to the improved understanding of parents, family members, and professionals who support them.

Book Synopsis Urban and Regional Planning in Canada by : J. Barry Cullingworth
Download or read book Urban and Regional Planning in Canada written by J. Barry Cullingworth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this book presents a wide-ranging review of urban, regional, economic, and environmental planning in Canada. A comprehensive source of information on Canadian planning policies, it addresses the wide variations between Canadian provinces. While acknowledging similarities with programs and policies in the United States and Britain, the author documents the distinctively Canadian character of planning in Canada. Among the topics addressed in the book are: the agencies of planning; on the nature of urban plans; the instruments of planning; land policies; natural resources; regional planning at the federal level; regional planning and development in Ontario; regional planning in other provinces; environmental protection; planning and people; and reflections on the nature of planning in Canada. The author documents how governmental agencies handle problems of population growth, urban development, exploitation of natural resources, regional disparities, and many other issues that fall within the scope of urban and regional planning. But he goes beyond this to address matters of politics, law, economics, social organization. The book is pragmatic, eclectic, interpretive, and critical. It is a valuable contribution to international literature on planning in its political context.

Book Synopsis Alberta Premiers of the Twentieth Century by : University of Regina. Canadian Plains Research Center
Download or read book Alberta Premiers of the Twentieth Century written by University of Regina. Canadian Plains Research Center and published by University of Regina Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the optimism associated with provincial status in 1905, through the trials of Depression and war, the boom times of the post-war period, and the economic vagaries of the 1980s and the 1990s, the twentieth century was a time of growth and hardship, development and change, for Alberta and its people. And during the century, twelve men, from a variety of political parties and from very different backgrounds, led the government of this province. The names of some--like William Aberhart, Ernest Manning, and Peter Lougheed--are still household names, while others--like Arthur Sifton, Herbert Greenfield and Richard Reid--have been all but forgotten. Yet each in his unique way, for better or for worse, helped to mould and steer the destiny of the province he governed. These are their stories.

Book excerpt: “Flights of Sky Cruiser” With the invention of sonar, Nazi subs were being sunk and ships were making it to London faster. The parts for Sky Cruiser arrived two weeks early. They would put them on that night and I would leave the next day. I was looking forward to going home and I could not wait to be back in Sky Cruiser. The fighters were fast and fun to fly but there was nothing like flying Sky Cruiser, I surely had missed it. “Death Ridge” With the rising of the sun, came the awful sight. Thousands of men, dead or dying, so many they couldn’t see the blood covered grass underneath them, anywhere on the entire field. “Third Michigan, fall in!” The Sargent yelled. The men didn’t hustle around trying to get to their places that time. They had spent the last four hours remembering what the Captain said, and listening to the screams, and moans and the pleas for help. Now to see the sight that lay in front of them, was more then some of them could handle. Several men dropped their guns and ran off, soldiers on horses chased them down. “Dirty Money” “Open the trunk Annie,” he looked at her with a worried look on his face. She opened the glove box and pushed the button. He got out and walked around to the back of the car. He was there for several moments, then he closed the trunk and walked back around to the drivers’ side door and got in. He looked at Annie. “He opened it.” “No it’s to soon, we will never make it all the way. What are we going to do?” Daniel looked at her and smiled. “We’ll just have to start at the next town, and hit every major city we come to, until we run out of time.” Annie looked at him and smiled. “The Devil’s Seven” I wasn’t paying much attention to him when he walked up. “Is there anyone sitting here,” he asked, I still hadn’t looked at him. “No there’s no one sitting there.” I said as I turned and looked at him for the first time. He was an old man that looked like he was in his eighties, rugged and mean looking, and no one you would want to mess with. I watched him as he sat down; this man had lived a rugged life. He had more scars on his face, than most people had on their knees. But what caught my attention the most; was the wicked smile on his face, and the evil look in his eyes. This man could kill you in a heartbeat and never think twice about it; I was sure of that. I had always been able to sense danger and evil, and this man was totally evil. He sniffed the air, then turned and looked at me. “Do I know you,” he asked, then he sniffed the air again.
