Book Synopsis Physics and Probability by : W. T. Grandy, Jr
Download or read book Physics and Probability written by W. T. Grandy, Jr and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-12-16 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pioneering work of Edwin T. Jaynes in the field of statistical physics, quantum optics, and probability theory has had a significant and lasting effect on the study of many physical problems, ranging from fundamental theoretical questions through to practical applications such as optical image restoration. Physics and Probability is a collection of papers in these areas by some of his many colleagues and former students, based largely on lectures given at a symposium celebrating Jaynes' contributions, on the occasion of his seventieth birthday and retirement as Wayman Crow Professor of Physics at Washington University. The collection contains several authoritative overviews of current research on maximum entropy and quantum optics, where Jaynes' work has been particularly influential, as well as reports on a number of related topics. In the concluding paper, Jaynes looks back over his career, and gives encouragement and sound advice to young scientists. All those engaged in research on any of the topics discussed in these papers will find this a useful and fascinating collection, and a fitting tribute to an outstanding and innovative scientist.
Book Synopsis Measurement of Gamma-ray Production Cross Sections for Nitrogen and Oxygen by : Victor John Orphan
Download or read book Measurement of Gamma-ray Production Cross Sections for Nitrogen and Oxygen written by Victor John Orphan and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gamma-ray production cross section measurement facility is described in this report. This facility uses a LINAC as a neutron source and a Ge(Li) as the gamma detector. The facility was used to measure the gamma-ray production cross sections of nitrogen and oxygen for incident neutron energies of up to 16 MeV. The results are tabulated, graphed, and compared with other measurements. (Author).
Book Synopsis The Propagation of Gamma Quanta in Matter by : O. I. Leipunskii
Download or read book The Propagation of Gamma Quanta in Matter written by O. I. Leipunskii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Propagation of Gamma Quanta in Matter deals with various problems of the propagation and absorption of gamma quanta in matter, including the occurrence of multiple scattering of radiation. A general account of theoretical methods of solving problems of multiple scattering of quanta is presented, with emphasis on the results of solving such problems. This book consists of three chapters and begins with a discussion on the interaction of gamma radiation with matter; multiple scattering of gamma quanta; and the distribution function and quantities connected with it. The next chapter focuses on the theory of multiple scattering of gamma quanta and covers subjects such as the transport equation and its analytical solution; method of moments; method of random sampling; and method of successive collisions. The last chapter examines the propagation of radiation for various geometrical configurations of the sources and absorbing media, paying particular attention to a point source in a homogeneous medium and on the boundary of two media; unidirectional radiation in a homogeneous medium; reflexion of gamma radiation from the surface of a scattering medium; a plane isotropic source; and a thick radiating layer of an absorbing medium. This monograph will appeal to students as well as physicists and engineers engaged in shield design problems.
