Download or read book The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon written by Fred Jegerlehner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the present state of knowledge of the anomalous magnetic moment a=(g-2)/2 of the muon. The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in elementary particle physics and provides one of the most stringent tests of relativistic quantum field theory as a fundamental theoretical framework. It allows for an extremely precise check of the standard model of elementary particles and of its limitations.
Book Synopsis Measurement of the E+ E- to Pi+ Pi- Pi+ Pi-, K+ K- Pi+ Pi-, K+ K- K+ K- Cross Sections Using Initial State Radiation at BaBar by :
Download or read book Measurement of the E+ E- to Pi+ Pi- Pi+ Pi-, K+ K- Pi+ Pi-, K+ K- K+ K- Cross Sections Using Initial State Radiation at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First results of a study of the ee− → ?+?−?+?−? process with hard photon emitted from initial state are presented. About 60000 fully reconstructed events have been selected based on 89.3 fb−1 of BABAR data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective collision c.m. energy, and so BABAR ISR data can be compared to the relevant direct e+e− measurements. From obtained 4? mass spectrum we evaluate e+e− → ?+?−?+?− cross section for the range of c.m.s. energy from 0.6 to 4.5 GeV. The systematic error of the cross section measurement is 5% and comparable with the best e+e− data. The cross sections for identified 2K2? and 4K final states also have been presented.
Book Synopsis A Measurement of the Differential Cross Section for the Reaction $\gamma N \to \pi^{-} P$ from Deuterium by :
Download or read book A Measurement of the Differential Cross Section for the Reaction $\gamma N \to \pi^{-} P$ from Deuterium written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a measurement of the differential cross section for the $\gamma n \to \pi^- p$ process from the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab in Hall B for photon energies between 1.0 and 3.5 GeV and pion center-of-mass (c.m.) angles ($\theta_{c.m.}$) between 50$^\circ$ and 115$^\circ$. We confirm a previous indication of a broad enhancement around a c.m. energy ($\sqrt{s}$) of 2.2 GeV at $\theta_{c.m.}=90^\circ$ in the scaled differential cross section, $s^7 {\frac{d\sigma}{dt}}$. Our data show the angular dependence of this enhancement as the scaling region is approached in the kinematic region from 70$^\circ$ to 105$^\circ$.
Book Synopsis Measurement of the Production Cross Section Ratio [sigma]([chi]b2(1P)) by :
Download or read book Measurement of the Production Cross Section Ratio [sigma]([chi]b2(1P)) written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of the production cross section ratio [sigma]([chi]b2(1P)) / [sigma]([chi]b1(1P)) is presented. The [chi]b1 (1P) and [chi]b2(1P) bottomonium states, promptly produced in pp collisions at [arrow]"=8 TeV, are detected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC through their radiative decays [chi]b1,2(1P) 2![Upsilon](1S) + [gamma] . The emitted photons are measured through their conversion to ee− pairs, whose reconstruction allows the two states to be resolved. The [Upsilon](1S) is measured through its decay to two muons. An event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb−1 is used to measure the cross section ratio in a phase-space region defined by the photon pseudorapidity, y [Upsilon].

Book Synopsis Precise Measurement of the Total Cross Section by :
Download or read book Precise Measurement of the Total Cross Section written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note will analyze the problems involved in making a precise measurement of the total cross secton for ee− annihilation into hadrons. Based on this analysis, we will suggest that a relatively simple non-magnetic device employing calorimetry over a 4.pi. solid angle is the optimum apparatus for such a measurement. We will describe one such device in some detail.
Download or read book Calorimetry written by Richard Wigmans and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 864 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle physics is the science that pursues the age-old quest for the innermost structure of matter and the fundamental interactions between its constituents. Modern experiments in this field rely increasingly on calorimetry, a detection technique in which the particles of interest are absorbed in the detector. Calorimeters are very intricate instruments. Their performance characteristics depend on subtle, sometimes counter-intuitive design details. Written by one of the world's foremost experts, Calorimetry is the first comprehensive text on this topic. It provides a fundamental and systematic introduction to calorimetry. It describes the state of the art in terms of both the fundamental understanding of calorimetric particle detection, and the actual detectors that have been or are being built and operated in experiments. The last chapter discusses landmark scientific discoveries in which calorimetry has played an important role. This book summarizes and puts into perspective the work described in some 900 scientific papers, listed in the bibliography. This second edition emphasizes new developments that have taken place since the first edition appeared in 2000.
Book Synopsis Calorimetry for Collider Physics, an Introduction by : Michele Livan
Download or read book Calorimetry for Collider Physics, an Introduction written by Michele Livan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is exceptional in offering a thorough but accessible introduction to calorimetry that will meet the needs of both students and researchers in the field of particle physics. It is designed to provide the sound knowledge of the basics of calorimetry and of calorimetric techniques and instrumentation that is mandatory for any physicist involved in the design and construction of large experiments or in data analysis. An important feature is the correction of a number of persistent common misconceptions. Among the topics covered are the physics and development of electromagnetic showers, electromagnetic calorimetry, the physics and development of hadron showers, hadron calorimetry, and calibration of a calorimeter. Two chapters are devoted to more promising calorimetric techniques for the next collider. Calorimetry for Collider Physics, an introduction will be of value for all who are seeking a reliable guide to calorimetry that occupies the middle ground between the brief chapter in a generic book on particle detection and the highly complex and lengthy reference book.

Book Synopsis Precise Geodetic Infrastructure by : National Research Council
Download or read book Precise Geodetic Infrastructure written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-10-25 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geodesy is the science of accurately measuring and understanding three fundamental properties of Earth: its geometric shape, its orientation in space, and its gravity field, as well as the changes of these properties with time. Over the past half century, the United States, in cooperation with international partners, has led the development of geodetic techniques and instrumentation. Geodetic observing systems provide a significant benefit to society in a wide array of military, research, civil, and commercial areas, including sea level change monitoring, autonomous navigation, tighter low flying routes for strategic aircraft, precision agriculture, civil surveying, earthquake monitoring, forest structural mapping and biomass estimation, and improved floodplain mapping. Recognizing the growing reliance of a wide range of scientific and societal endeavors on infrastructure for precise geodesy, and recognizing geodetic infrastructure as a shared national resource, this book provides an independent assessment of the benefits provided by geodetic observations and networks, as well as a plan for the future development and support of the infrastructure needed to meet the demand for increasingly greater precision. Precise Geodetic Infrastructure makes a series of focused recommendations for upgrading and improving specific elements of the infrastructure, for enhancing the role of the United States in international geodetic services, for evaluating the requirements for a geodetic workforce for the coming decades, and for providing national coordination and advocacy for the various agencies and organizations that contribute to the geodetic infrastructure.
