Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seventh Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held for the second time at the Club St. Croix, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The ASI brought together a total of 75 participants, from 19 countries. The primary support for the meeting was again provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The ASI was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, by Fermilab, by the National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. As in the case of the previous ASIs, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement the material published in the first six ASIs, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists.

This book was released on 1996-03-20 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference covered recent developments, both experimental and theoretical, in the study of hadron spectroscopy. It focused primarily on the spectroscopy, properties, theories and models of: light-quark mesons, heavy-quark mesons and baryons, exotic states (glueballs and hybrid mesons), and future facilities for their continued study.Special features to note include: New results were presented on the ƒ0(1500) meson from the Crystal Barrel, OBELIX and GAMS collaborations, indicating that this state is now a clear candidate for the lowest 0++ glueball; The existence of the ξ(2230) was confirmed by new data from BES; A session on future facilities; New results on charmed mesons and on hadrons with b quarks were also presented.

Book Synopsis Techniques and Concepts of High-Energy Physics VIII by : Thomas Ferbel
Download or read book Techniques and Concepts of High-Energy Physics VIII written by Thomas Ferbel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the eighth Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High-Energy Physics we returned once again to the Hotel on the Cay on that speck of land in the harbor of Christiansted, St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands. This time, the ASI brought together a total of 73 participants, from 21 countries. The primary support for the meeting was provided, as usual, by the Scientific Affairs Division of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The ASI was cosponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), by the U. S. National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. In addition, the International Science Foundation contributed very generously to the support of a participant from Russia. As in the case of the previous ASls, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures, although, unfortunately, short of three contributions, should complement the material published in the first seven ASIs, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the encouragement and support that I have continued to receive from colleagues and friends in organizing this meeting.

Book Synopsis Heavy Flavour Physics by : I. I. Bigi
Download or read book Heavy Flavour Physics written by I. I. Bigi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures collected in this book present a comprehensive review of the current knowledge of heavy-quark physics, from the points of view of both theory and experiment. Heavy Flavour Physics has accomplished enormous progress during the last few years: the last heavy quark has been discovered and the quality of the collected data on the other relatively lighter quarks has dramatically improved. On the theory side, noticeable progress has been reported on new calculations of decay rates based on various techniques, such as QCD sum rules, heavy-quark mass expansion and lattice QCD. The theory of heavy quark production is constantly improving and awaiting new results. Nevertheless there are strong reasons to believe that the Standard Model of High Energy Physics is incomplete. It exhibits very peculiar patterns for which it offers no explanation. The basic constituents of matter are arranged into three seemingly identical generations or families of quarks and leptons, differing merely in their masses. The pattern in the fermion masses, why they are families and why there are three of them is not yet understood. Furthermore it is known that at least within the standard model there is an intimate connection between the replication of families and the gateway of CP violation, in addition, the latter phenomenon is a crucial ingredient in explaining why our universe is made up almost exclusively of matter rather than being more or less matter-antimatter symmetric. How and to what extent can Heavy Flavour Physics impact on these questions? Does it offer novel windows onto New Physics beyond the Standard Model in general and onto new symmetries, such as Supersymmetry in particular? These questions constitute the central theme of this book. The material treated in this publication may serve as reference for the segment of the high-energy community actively engaged in heavy-quark physics.
Book Synopsis Standard Model And Just Beyond, The - Proceedings Of The 4th San Miniato Topical Seminar by : Francesco Luigi Navarria
Download or read book Standard Model And Just Beyond, The - Proceedings Of The 4th San Miniato Topical Seminar written by Francesco Luigi Navarria and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-07-15 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 4th San Miniato Topical Seminar on “The Standard Model and Just Beyond” was a continuation of the meetings held in 1985, 1987 and 1991, and covered essentially similar topics. The program focused on reviews of the present experimental progress in precise electroweak and QCD tests, heavy flavour physics (particularly mixing) and the search for new particles. The emphasis was on the most recent results coming from the large statistics data samples collected at LEP, other e+e- machines, hadron colliders and fixed target experiments. The present status of the theory was reviewed and one session was dedicated to the discussion of future plans and physics issues.
