Book excerpt: Updated and streamlined for easier use, TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION FOR MEANINGFUL CLASSROOM USE: A STANDARDS-BASED APPROACH, 2E, International Edition equips readers with the knowledge, creative and critical thinking skills, and confidence needed to become "self-directed learners" who can successfully navigate the constantly changing environment of technology integration in the classroom. Using the principles of self-directed learning as its foundation, the book aims to help readers learn to evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning. The first educational technology book organized around the 2008 National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T) developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), this standards-based approach provides the framework for developing, modeling, and teaching the skills and knowledge necessary for integrating technology in authentic teaching and learning. An end-of-book supplement provides examples of technology integration in practice within specific content areas, guided by the national standards that apply to each content domain.

Book excerpt: A groundbreaking book by one of the most important thinkers of our time shows how technology is warping our social lives and our inner ones Technology has become the architect of our intimacies. Online, we fall prey to the illusion of companionship, gathering thousands of Twitter and Facebook friends, and confusing tweets and wall posts with authentic communication. But this relentless connection leads to a deep solitude. MIT professor Sherry Turkle argues that as technology ramps up, our emotional lives ramp down. Based on hundreds of interviews and with a new introduction taking us to the present day, Alone Together describes changing, unsettling relationships between friends, lovers, and families.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computers can help the range of ways learners build up their own perception. Students who collect data from the Internet can be self-directed and independent. They can select sources to study and the connections to follow. Relying on the bounds laid down by teachers, the students may be in full control of their subjects and their studies. Students can take a computer-based activity at their own pace. Instead of scores of students working together on one activity, technology helps independent execution of work. Those who start to fail to keep up can get an instructor's individualized assistance while others can start to deal with more difficult tasks. Computer software can combine text, pictures, sound, and motion to offer various choices for students. Multimedia software will not be the only classroom resource, but it can contribute richness and variety to student work. Students can build on their own understanding by using computers as resource tools, as workstations for individual learning, or as communication means to share their thoughts with other students. Individual perception and experiences must be shared and evaluated to program content. By recognizing students' individual perceptions, teachers can find out the impact of students' past understanding and promote their education through new skill. Computers can be utilized to help active events collecting information and resources, discussing with colleagues, struggling through a challenging problem or application--or they can help in deliberation. For instance, despite the fact that an on-line discussion through electronic mail is an active event, such discussions generally induce deliberations. They assist us to think about thoughts and to check the understanding. In another thoughtful application, teachers can use computers as tools for making students' journals which are outstanding medium for reflective examination of events.

This book was released on with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book focuses on the possible education responses that can be implemented in future education times. The impact of technology on learning and teaching is often at the forefront of demands, particularly from those who dictate the funding available to pay for technology within education systems. This is not an unreasonable request and there is merit in impact evaluations of educational technologies including emergingtechnologies. Besides, it also shows how emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Educational Games and Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, will reshape the future of education to provide efficient learning/teaching experiences and assessments. Furthermore, the book discusses innovative teaching and learning approaches (e.g., the use of open educational practices and peer-to-peer learning) that can be applied in this rapidly moving technological era to maintain education, including in unconditional times. Particularly, new instructional methods, such as game-based learning, should be designed based on integrated technologies to provide an effective learning experience, resulting in better learning outcomes. Future education should not solely focus on technology and psychology, but also on the applied instructional methods, as well as the human touch to maintain authentic and effective learning experiences. The book also discusses how teaching and learning can be designed to meet the growing tendency of Open and Distance Education, where thousands of learners can be taken the same course from different cultures, backgrounds and learning needs. This book aims to establish itself, through the published books/textbooks and research, as a medium to provide guidelines and recommendations for different stakeholders, including policymakers, educational designers, teachers, and students on how to enhance both learning and teaching experiences in the future for better learning outcomes, as well as how to maintain education in emergency times. It also provides one step ahead towards future education to prepare different stakeholders for the rapid evolution of education, even in times of emergency and difficult situations.

Book excerpt: This playful yet professional book is designed to help educators select, acquire and implement technology to help all students, but especially those with special needs. School districts often struggle to develop consistent practices for meeting the needs of special education students. With this book, you’ll learn how embracing student-centered approaches like project-based learning and growth mindset works to support students with disabilities. You’ll get guidance on how to plan and execute educational experiences using technology centered around the needs of students with disabilities. And you’ll learn how to effectively and consistently consider and select technological supports based on the specific needs of an individual student with a disability. This book: • Details how an educational team can request assistance to determine technology needs. • Explains how to conduct and document assessments to help an educational team make informed decisions about technology needs. • Describes a proactive approach to professional development for individuals and for those who train others on the use of technology. • Assists individuals or teams in creating an action plan for developing a culture of inclusion. • Interweaves stories, songs and other exciting features to make learning fun! The New Assistive Tech is a catalyst for breaking down walls between special education and general education, and will help all educators realize they have tech knowledge (and can build upon that knowledge) that can be used to support students with disabilities.
