State-of-the-science snapshots pinpoint where short- and long-term initiatives stand today, from early detection and vaccination programs to new genetic technologies and drug therapies. This diverse group of perspectives and approaches offers innovative paths toward control and realistic odds for containing the threat, especially in the face of current co-epidemics and new drug-resistant strains. Among the topics in the Handbook: Diagnosis of tuberculosis: current pipeline, unmet needs, and new developments Concurrence of tuberculosis and other major diseases The tuberculosis outbreak response, investigation, and control The promise of new TB vaccines DNA fingerprinting of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: a rich source of fundamental and daily applicable knowledge Global tuberculosis surveillance The Handbook of Global Tuberculosis Control is urgent reading for leadership and staff of non-governmental organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, research centers, hospitals, and potentially businesses with interests in tuberculosis control. Additionally, the book's focus on TB in developing countries will attract a wider audience of practitioners, particularly those working in the broader fields of global public health, epidemiology, international development, and the socioeconomics of infectious diseases.

This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical care units are high-risk areas which contribute to increased health care costs and increased patient morbidity and mortality. Patients in critical care units are commonly confronted with existing and the potential to develop infections. Critical care practitioners play a crucial role as initial providers to critically ill patients with infections through the delivery of timely and appropriate therapies aimed to prevent and treat patient infections. The responsibility of critical care practitioners include prudent delivery of care to treat current infections as well as ensuring the delivery of care does not increase the development of new infections. Aggressive infection control measures are needed to reduce infections in critical care settings. Dissemination of scholarly work on the topic of infection in critically ill patients can play a role in improving patient outcomes. The information provided on infections in this issue of Critical Care Nursing Clinics promotes the dissemination of current literature on a series of timely and relevant infection topics in critical care environments.

This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While sexual misconduct on our college and university campuses, both public and private, is dismayingly widespread, it continues to be significantly underreported because most victims perceive that judicial recourse, with its legalistic adversarial approach, fails to address--in a healing way--the harms done to them. Fewer still file formal complaints, many for fear that they may lose agency and that the process may rekindle the trauma of their experience.Recognizing the reality that supermajority of sexual harms in higher education are rarely addressed through established legalistic practices, this book offers a range of alternative approaches based on restorative justice.Starting from the premise “What if we started with the goal of healing in mind”, this book opens with an overview of common restorative practices and accounts of application and lessons learned by practitioners who have implemented a range of restorative justice and alternative-based approaches. Subsequent chapters cover procedural elements, recommendations around documentation. and interventions for individuals who have caused harm through sexual and gender-based misconduct. The book addresses facilitation; the need to pay attention to self, people, and systems, identities, and power dynamics; the considerations for working restoratively with both complainants and respondents; offers cases and adaptable examples of resolution; and concludes with reflections on institutional implementation from the perspectives of administrators, facilitators, and a student survivor.Recognizing there will always be a need for a formal investigatory approach to cases of sexual misconduct, the book offers a wide range of alternative options that empower those who are most directly affected to make the call for themselves. In doing so, it may increase reporting and, furthermore, in offering a healing justice that addresses individual and community needs, may work to reduce sexual misconduct on campus.
