Book excerpt: In the era of continuous changes in internal organizationalsettings and external business environments – such as new regulations and business opportunities – modern enterprises are subject to extensive research and study. For the understanding, design, and engineering of modern enterprises and theircomplexbusiness processes, thedisciplineofenterpriseengineeringrequires sound engineering principles and systematic approaches based on rigorous th- ries. Along with that, a paradigm shift seems to be needed for addressing these issues adequately. The main paradigm shift is the consideration of an enterprise and its business processes as a social system. In its social setting, an enterprise and its business processes represent actors with certain authorities and assigned roles, who assume certain responsibilities in order to provide a service to its environment. Second to that, a paradigm shift is to look at an enterprise as an artifact purposefully designed for a certain mission and goal. The need for this paradigm shift, along with the complexity and agility of modern enterprises, gives inspiration for the emerging discipline of enterprise engineering that requires development of new theories and methodologies. To this end, the prominent methods and tools of modeling and simulation play a signi?cant role. Both (conceptual) modeling and simulation are widely used for understanding, analyzing, and engineering an enterprise (its organization and business processes).

This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is about a new model querying and transformation approach called FunnyQT which is realized as a set of APIs and embedded domain-specific languages (DSLs) in the JVM-based functional Lisp-dialect Clojure. Founded on a powerful model management API, FunnyQT provides querying services such as comprehensions, quantified expressions, regular path expressions, logic-based, relational model querying, and pattern matching. On the transformation side, it supports the definition of unidirectional model-to-model transformations, of in-place transformations, it supports defining bidirectional transformations, and it supports a new kind of co-evolution transformations that allow for evolving a model together with its metamodel simultaneously. Several properties make FunnyQT unique. Foremost, it is just a Clojure library, thus, FunnyQT queries and transformations are Clojure programs. However, most higher-level services are provided as task-oriented embedded DSLs which use Clojure's powerful macro-system to support the user with tailor-made language constructs important for the task at hand. Since queries and transformations are just Clojure programs, they may use any Clojure or Java library for their own purpose, e.g., they may use some templating library for defining model-to-text transformations. Conversely, like every Clojure program, FunnyQT queries and transformations compile to normal JVM byte-code and can easily be called from other JVM languages. Furthermore, FunnyQT is platform-independent and designed with extensibility in mind. By default, it supports the Eclipse Modeling Framework and JGraLab, and support for other modeling frameworks can be added with minimal effort and without having to modify the respective framework's classes or FunnyQT itself. Lastly, because FunnyQT is embedded in a functional language, it has a functional emphasis itself. Every query and every transformation compiles to a function which can be passed around, given to higher-order functions, or be parametrized with other functions.

Book excerpt: "The proportion of value added of knowledge in companies has increased since the last years and in this context the meaning of knowledge flows within business processes has become more important. Numerous developed approaches aim at modeling knowledge intensive business processes in order to enable the analysis, evaluation and deduction of potentials for optimization of knowledge flows within these processes. This book presents the Knowledge Modeling and Description Language (KMDLʼ) as a modeling approach from a scientific-theoretical point of view as well as its practical applicability. Practitioners get a deeper comprehension of knowledge intensive business processes and a practical application orientation for the use of KMDLʼ within the company. Scientists and students get a summary about actual research efforts on knowledge intensive business processes, associated methods and cases of application."--Back cover.

Book excerpt: As organizations and research institutions continue to emphasize model-driven engineering (MDE) as a first-class approach in the software development process of complex systems, the utilization of software in multiple domains and professional networks is becoming increasingly vital. Advances and Applications in Model-Driven Engineering explores this relatively new approach in software development that can increase the level of abstraction of development of tasks. This publication covers the issues of bridging the gaps between various disciplines within software engineering and computer science. Professionals, researchers, and students will discover the most current tools and techniques available in the field to maximize efficiency of model-driven software development.
