Book Synopsis Testicular Autoimmunity by : Masahiro Itoh
Download or read book Testicular Autoimmunity written by Masahiro Itoh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses various aspects of testicular autoimmunity. It has long been suspected that testicular autoimmunity could be one of the causes of idiopathic male infertility. However, it is very difficult to estimate the incidence of testicular autoimmunity in men, as most male patients first realize they are infertile when they start trying to conceive a child, and there is a possibility that their testes may already exhibit the end stage of testicular autoimmunity, in which lymphocytic inflammation and immunoglobulin deposition in their testes subsided long ago and only the spermatogenic disorder remains. Therefore, autopsy or biopsy for testicular tissues in men before the end stage of testicular autoimmunity and investigations using testicular autoimmunity model animals are needed to determine the epidemiology of testicular autoimmunity. Accordingly, the book discusses “the immunological fragility of testis” with regard to male infertility, reviewing autopsy data in men and presenting experimental data using murine models of autoimmune orchitis that has been induced by immunizing with viable syngeneic testicular germ cells alone. Testicular autoimmunity in animals is also discussed. In summary, the book provides a wealth of valuable information, not only for researchers who are interested in immunologic male infertility, but also for clinical professionals who treat these patients at hospitals.

A Atchley and others studied the effects of hypertension, endocarditis, and circulatory diseases on the kidney and few years ago we never heard of kidney disease and now you are speaking of patients in the hundreds of thou spawned successive generations of alert clinical investi sands and indeed potentially millions'. My reply, not gators who began to chronicle the natural histories of a meant to be grim, was 'From the cemetery, Sir'. This is wide variety of kidney diseases. Quantitative studies of a summary of some Congressional testimony I once renal function flourished under a school headed by Homer Smith, and surprisingly precise techniques were gave on behalf of extending kidney disease under Medi care. Where indeed were all the patients with kidney developed for studying a whole range of explicit nephron disease in the United States before World War II? They functions. Imagine the joy with the advent of catheteri were certainly not under the care of Nephrologists! zation to be able to apply extraction ratios and the Fick Nephrology was not listed in the questionnaires for any principle in a precise way to an organ such as the kidney State or the American Medical Association as a subspe by sampling arterial blood, venous blood and the output of the urine! One had a quantitative handle on the entire cialty or even as a special interest.
Download or read book Renal Medicine written by E.N. Wardle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor David Kerr Royal Victoria Infirmary) Newcastle upon Tyne Do we need another book on renal disease? There are few small books, particularly from this side of the Atlantic, which provide a really sound foundation of renal physiology, biochemistry and immunology. For two decades "The Kidney" by Hugh de Wardener has given a splendid background in renal physiology but I doubt if any author has brought to this subject as wide an experience and knowledge of basic science as Dr Wardle possesses. His researches have ranged over haematology, the role of in travascular coagulation in acute renal failure, the biochemistry of uremic metabolites, the immunology of glomerulonephritis, to hyperlipidemia in the genesis of arterial disease. In all these topics he has mastered the laboratory techniques as well as studying the patients personally. He therefore has a unique opportunity to show how renal disease can be illuminated by an understanding of the pathogenetic mechanism and to point the way to future treatment more logical than the crude and empirical methods we use today. This approach should appeal particularly to the young graduate whose memory of biocht:mistry and physiology is still reasonably fresh.
Book Synopsis Immunoglobulins in Health and Disease by : M. French
Download or read book Immunoglobulins in Health and Disease written by M. French and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid advances continue to be made in all areas of immunology, not least the biology of the immunoglobulins. This knowledge has resulted in a better understanding of antibody responses and helped to clarify pathogenic mechanisms in many diseases, particularly autoimmune and allergic diseases, as well as expand our comprehension of antibody deficiency diseases and mechanisms in therapeutic immunization. In addition, the recognition that diverse disease states may result in abnormalities of the amount of immunoglobulins in body fluids has resulted in the use of immunoglobulin assays for disease diagnosis and management. The aim of this book has been to condense both the established and recent aspects of this knowledge, particularly that pertaining to clinical immunology. The contributions of different authors hopefully provide a comprehensive review of their particular field of interest as well as a discussion of how this information can be applied to clinical medicine. Immunological terms and concepts have been explained where appropriate so that the book can be read by those with only a basic knowledge of immunology. In producing a book on this one area of immunology some duplication of information has been accepted so that topics can be considered in different contexts. I hope the book will be of value to those in training or already pursuing a career in clinical or laboratory medicine by providing a basic and short text on immunoglobulins. M.A.H.F.

Book Synopsis International Review of Experimental Pathology by : G. W. Richter
Download or read book International Review of Experimental Pathology written by G. W. Richter and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Review of Experimental Pathology, Volume 30, is organized around the theme of renal disease. The choice of renal disease reflects both the author's personal interest and the realization that there is a need for such a collection of reviews in this area. There are many new books on renal pathology, but almost all have a clinical rather than experimental orientation. The book opens with a chapter on the pathogenesis of experimentally induced renal papillary necrosis and upper urothelial carcinoma. Subsequent chapters deal with the use of cell cultures in the study of renal diseases; mechanisms of cyclosporine nephrotoxicity in humans and animal systems; spontaneously occurring renal diseases in laboratory animals; and the use of video microscopy to define the reactivity of the renal microvasculature and the hydraulic permeability of the glomerular capillaries. This book will be of interest to a diverse group of readers interested in renal disease. This broad spectrum of potential readership is reflected in the list of contributors which includes, in addition to pathologists, nephrologists, anatomists, veterinarians, and experimental chemists. This volume will also be of interest to transplant surgeons and to pediatricians specializing in renal disease.
