Mankind was in danger of perishing for lack of elbow room--unless prompt measures were taken. Roy Walton had the power to enforce those measures. But though his job was in the service of humanity, he soon found himself the most hated man in the world. For it was his job to tell parents their children were unfit to live; he had to uproot people from their homes and send them to remote areas of the world. Now, threatened by mobs of outraged citizens, denounced and blackened by the press, Roy Walton had to make a decision: resign his post, or use his power to destroy his enemies and become a dictator in the hopes of saving humanity from its own folly. In other words, should he become the MASTER OF LIFE AND DEATH?

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2016 Marfield Prize In 1902, Rainer Maria Rilke—then a struggling poet in Germany—went to Paris to research and write a short book about the sculptor Auguste Rodin. The two were almost polar opposites: Rilke in his twenties, delicate and unknown; Rodin in his sixties, carnal and revered. Yet they fell into an instantaneous friendship. Transporting readers to early twentieth-century Paris, Rachel Corbett’s You Must Change Your Life is a vibrant portrait of Rilke and Rodin and their circle, revealing how deeply Rodin’s ideas about art and creativity influenced Rilke’s classic Letters to a Young Poet.
Book Synopsis Life Lessons to Master Before You Die by : Kristen Casey
Download or read book Life Lessons to Master Before You Die written by Kristen Casey and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is focused on helping you show up to life authentically. Most of us wear a mask our entire life and endure situations or relationships that aren't serving us. What would life be like if you cut the BS? If you truly healed? If you allowed what is meant for you? Became the best version of yourself? When you allow what is meant to be, you might be pleasantly surprised. You'll be forced to accept what is, rather than what you're expecting for your life. I know you're thinking, "But why would I want to do this?"The short answer: focusing on your future expectations, rather than reality, isn't really living. It's simply dreaming. As a psychologist, I've spent countless hours listening to people in their most vulnerable states. They've told me their deepest struggles, maybe things that they hadn't told anyone else. Now, of course, I will never go into detail about client specifics, but I couldn't help but notice several themes among the people I've treated. All of these people were from different cultures and had vastly different value systems. Yet, it was fascinating that the human experience had its parallels.I noticed when people were able to gain insight into certain patterns in their lives, they were able to overcome some pretty tough obstacles. They had these "ah ha" moments earlier in their life, and to my surprise, they were able to gain momentum in their lives relatively quickly. Most importantly, they had less regrets about their lives after acknowledging the situations they had to change.I compiled some of the most common themes I encountered in therapy, while considering the research and a spiritual perspective, and formulated this book, Life Lessons to Master Before You Die. Therapy can be seen as a mysterious and intimidating process, so I cut right to the chase and outlined these lessons in an easy-to-read format, with practical solutions to overcome them. I had a feeling most people would benefit from this, as many people in therapy seemed to struggle with similar problems.Uncovering life's patterns early on serves as a foundation for quicker healing. It's similar to having a cheat code in a video game. The sooner you find the cheat code, the quicker you can progress in levels or get to the finish line. But here, there is no finish line.Healing has no end. It's a transformative process that happens over and over again. This "cheat code" basically facilitates progress but isn't a magic wand. The point is to focus on the path that leads to healing, whether you reach the finish line or not. We see fulfillment in life when we take small steps in the right direction. It's about the journey (yes, I said it). Also, this book may sound morbid ("oh my gosh, will I really die one day!?"). It's a reminder that our time on earth is limited and it's never too late to be the best version of yourself. In fact, starting to work on yourself today can make the rest of your life the best years you've ever had. Cheers to having good things to say on your death bed rather than having regrets!

Book excerpt: The book reveals the Reality of Life. Life's origin, Life's reason for existence is answered. The personal choice for the self, self-creation, is shown. Life's Eternity, Life's Indestructible Nature is proven. The immortality of the soul is proven. The book proves God's existence. Unlimited power is disproven. The philosophy of the book is titled the one philosophy. The One Philosophy includes all opposites, the Middle Ground between which is taken and confirmed. All that is lacking of the good is exposed. Philosophy is the answer to knowledge of the good, not religion, not democracy. The philosopher-king is advocated. The three main human objectives are put forth: understanding of Life's laws, the creating of the good society, the need to live in peace. Only philosophy has the answers. This book marks the new human beginning. It is groundbreaking. The phony, not-so-peaceful-andloving, the real Jesus Christ is exposed. The destruction of Jesus Christ is complete. The greatest human questions are answered. The basis of future humanity will be the One Philosophy

This book was released on 2022-04-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book series contains thousands of Master Cheng Yen’s teachings or responses to questions on all sorts of matters. The earliest teaching documented in this series was given in 1980, when then president, Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo, visited the Jing Si Abode in Hualien. During this visit, Master Cheng Yen shared about the groups Tzu Chi Merit Association helped, the kinds of help provided, and its operating process. The most recent teaching was given in April 2021, after a Taroko Express train operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration derailed in and caused serious casualties. Master Cheng Yen expressed her empathy and compassion to the volunteers who went to the accident site right after the incident to provide help. The historical materials span as long as forty-one years and across two centuries. Volume One covers topics on living and dying. Life and death are natural phenomena. When we look at them with a broader perspective, we will be able to let them go. As such, we can be unhindered and unattached. Though life is limited, wisdom life lasts forever. Thus, for Buddhist practitioners, life and death can be taken more lightly; it is more important to nourish our wisdom life. We must eradicate the defilements in our minds and return to our innocent, pure, intrinsic nature.
Book Synopsis Life Principles of the Master by : Wilson David
Download or read book Life Principles of the Master written by Wilson David and published by Inspiration Speaks. This book was released on 2007 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sermon on the Mount, spoken so long ago, contains the most concentrated teachings of Jesus in the Scriptures. In Jesus¿ day the prevailing religion claimed to serve the true God; however, it had been distorted by the commandments and doctrines of men. Sadly, little has changed. Jesus¿ words from long ago still startle and challenge us. Yet we must remember they are the words of heaven and therefore must be followed. Following the words and teachings of Jesus has always required coming apart from the crowd and the prevailing religions of the day. Following the life principles of the Master requires us to ¿be still, and know that I am God¿ (Psalm 46:10). It means being alone with God, understanding the littleness of our lives, and bowing before the Master of the universe, whose words spoken so long ago still speak blessings today to all who will listen.

Book Synopsis Aristotle on the Concept of Shared Life by : Sara Brill
Download or read book Aristotle on the Concept of Shared Life written by Sara Brill and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the terms of Aristotle's Politics, to be alive is to instantiate a form of rule. In the growth of plants, the perceptual capacities and movement of animals, and the impulse that motivates thinking, speaking, and deliberating Aristotle sees the working of a powerful generative force come to expression in an array of forms of life, and it is in these, if anywhere, that one could find the resources needed for a philosophic account of the nature of life as such. Aristotle on the Concept of Shared Life explores this intertwining of power and life in Aristotle's thought, and argues that Aristotle locates the foundation of human political life in the capacity to share one's most vital activities with others. A comprehensive study of the relationality which shared life reveals tells us something essential about Aristotle's approach to human political phenomena; namely, that they arise as forms of intimacy whose political character can only be seen when viewed in the context of Aristotle's larger inquiries into animal life, where they emerge not as categorically distinct from animal sociality, but as intensifications of it. Tracing the human capacity to share life thus illuminates the interrelation between the zoological, ethical, and political lenses through which Aristotle pursues his investigation of the polis. In following this connection, this volume also examines — and critically evaluates — the reception of Aristotle's political thought in some of the most influential concepts of contemporary critical theory.
