Al principio le cuesta encontrar carga. Cuando estalla la Primera guerra mundial, todo cambia, la guerra exige abastecimiento de mercancías y el Mare Nostrum navega siempre cargado. La trama continúa con numerosas peripecias: Ulises se enamora de una mujer misteriosa en Nápoles, recorre el Mediterráneo en plena guerra y se encuentra con veteranos de la batalla de Salónica. Marsella, Barcelona son también el telón de fondo de sus aventuras.
