Book Synopsis The Psychology of Sport Injury and Rehabilitation by : Monna Arvinen-Barrow
Download or read book The Psychology of Sport Injury and Rehabilitation written by Monna Arvinen-Barrow and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Athletes routinely use psychological skills and interventions for performance enhancement but, perhaps surprisingly, not always to assist in recovery from injury. This book demonstrates the ways in which athletes and practitioners can transfer psychological skills to an injury and rehabilitation setting, to enhance recovery and the well-being of the athlete. Drawing on the very latest research in sport and exercise psychology, this book explores key psychological concepts relating to injury, explaining typical psychological responses to injury and psychological aspects of rehabilitation. Using case studies in every chapter to highlight the day-to-day reality of working with injured athletes, it introduces a series of practical interventions, skills and techniques, underpinned by an evidence-base, with a full explanation of how each might affect an athletee(tm)s recovery from injury. The Psychology of Sport Injury and Rehabilitation emphasises the importance of an holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to sports injury and rehabilitation. No other book examines the psychological aspects of both sports injury and the rehabilitation process, and therefore this is an essential resource for students, scholars and practitioners working in sport psychology, sports therapy, sports medicine or coaching.

Book excerpt: This book offers both sport psychology practitioners and sport athletes a clear understanding of mindfulness to help athletes optimize sport performance. It provides a clear insight how sport athletes can learn to increase their ability to concentrate, be fully present during high pressure competition and how to effectively respond to distracting thoughts and emotions (e.g. performance anxiety; dread). MMTS has been adopted internationally by practicing sport psychologists – used with collegiate, club, and Olympic teams. Through offering a clear explanation of mindfulness and self-compassion (an essential element of MMTS), brief mindfulness based practices, and consistently offering how such practices link to performance – the reader learns to implement all of MMTS or elements of MMTS to help the increase their ability to focus, cope with difficult emotions, and perform their best when it matters.
Book Synopsis Sequential Analysis and Observational Methods for the Behavioral Sciences by : Roger Bakeman
Download or read book Sequential Analysis and Observational Methods for the Behavioral Sciences written by Roger Bakeman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-10 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavioral scientists – including those in psychology, infant and child development, education, animal behavior, marketing and usability studies – use many methods to measure behavior. Systematic observation is used to study relatively natural, spontaneous behavior as it unfolds sequentially in time. This book emphasizes digital means to record and code such behavior; while observational methods do not require them, they work better with them. Key topics include devising coding schemes, training observers and assessing reliability, as well as recording, representing and analyzing observational data. In clear and straightforward language, this book provides a thorough grounding in observational methods along with considerable practical advice. It describes standard conventions for sequential data and details how to perform sequential analysis with a computer program developed by the authors. The book is rich with examples of coding schemes and different approaches to sequential analysis, including both statistical and graphical means.

The consultation services of a sport psychologist are now considered essential for athletes participating in individual and team events. The Third Edition reflects the current status of sport psychology in the academic domain as well as in the applied field. This updated edition of The SourceBook presents a variety of initiatives that have been taken by researchers an practitioners of sport and exercise psychology since the release of Salmela's second edition in 1992. These initiatives are introduced to the reader in the international reports collected in this book. We concentrated our efforts on presenting the most up-to-date information on the sport psychology activities -- academic and applied -- conducted in each of the countries represented in this edition. Recognising the rapid growth of sport psychology around the globe The International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) established in 1965 decided to support the publication of a third edition of the 'World Sport Psychology SourceBook'. This edition ushers in the new millennium an era that holds great promise for the profession and the discipline of sport and exercise psychology. The new edition is geared for negotiating the rapidly globalising world in which we live today. The editors recruited more national contributions than ever before and have added the continental descriptions as well. The third edition also includes a range of useful contacts most with email and internet addresses so that they can be reached instantly. A chapter has been added that provides information about ISSP itself and the various 'continental' organisations representing sport psychology.
