Book Synopsis Developing Managerial Competence by : Jonathan Winterton
Download or read book Developing Managerial Competence written by Jonathan Winterton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workplace training and education have increasingly been seen as pivotal factors in improving the abilities, skills and competitiveness of industry, and the aim of the Management Charter Initiative (MCI), was to improve managers' practical competency in line with this. Under the MCI, qualification was gained by proving managerial competence in work related tasks, rather than by studying for a theoretical, educational qualification such as an MBA or degree. This book provides a welcome and comprehensive analysis of the MCI within the context of modern management development. It emphasizes the benefits of linking management development with organizational strategy, and includes: * up-to-date analysis of how management development can be measured * the first comprehensive assessment of the impact of using Management Standards * practical illustrations with sixteen in-depth case studies of contemporary organizations. This revealing book is endorsed by the MCI and includes a foreword by Professor Tom Cannon, whose leadership spearheaded and developed the MCI itself.
Book Synopsis Risk Management Competency Development in Banks by : Eric H.Y. Koh
Download or read book Risk Management Competency Development in Banks written by Eric H.Y. Koh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Pivot proposes an integrated approach to facilitate competency development in a more comprehensive way. It examines this approach in the important but seldom studied context of risk management in banks. Risk management weaknesses in banks have persisted in spite of regulatory changes. This Pivot takes inspiration from three unlikely sports heroes to create the proposed integrated approach to risk management competency development, bringing together three competency development concepts hitherto studied in isolation that are more comprehensive and more effective when combined. The author studies the integrated approach under three specific objectives. The concepts are first operationalized into 23 actionable indicators through literature reviews and experts’ reaffirmation. Then, the t-test and discriminant analysis are used to identify how banks across different demographic groups place different emphases on these indicators. Lastly, these indicators are summarized into key themes via factor analysis.

Book Synopsis Emerging Issues in Finance Sector Inclusion, Deepening, and Development in the People's Republic of China by : Asian Development Bank
Download or read book Emerging Issues in Finance Sector Inclusion, Deepening, and Development in the People's Republic of China written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its success to date, the People's Republic of China (PRC) faces some major challenges in finance sector development. Like all success stories, the PRC is finding it increasingly di cult to maintain momentum. The finance industry needs greater involvement from the private sector, including input in decision making. Achieving the desired outcomes will require a careful balance between the pace at which controls are removed and that at which the regulatory and legal infrastructure is strengthened. Long-term success will also require that economic growth be inclusive, with financial services available to all members of society.
Book Synopsis Review of 2011 Financial Sector Operational Plan by : Asian Development Bank
Download or read book Review of 2011 Financial Sector Operational Plan written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cross-cutting impact of finance on different sectors and economic activities amplifies opportunities for expanding financial inclusion and poverty reduction, which is why the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) 2011 Financial Sector Operational Plan (FSOP) was designed to address challenges ahead. ADB's finance sector operations contributed 11% of total lending portfolio over 2011-2015, about 15% of that in 2015 alone. This review examines the implementation of the 2011 FSOP and looks at the critical role of the finance sector in development in Asia and the Pacific. While this publication affirms that the FSOP remains valid and relevant, it also makes recommendations up to 2020 and provides a platform to launch the FSOP beyond 2020 to ensure its relevance with ADB's road to 2030.

Book Synopsis Housing Finance Policy in Emerging Markets by : Loic Chiquier
Download or read book Housing Finance Policy in Emerging Markets written by Loic Chiquier and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2009 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Housing finance markets have been changing dramatically in both emerging and developed economies. On the one hand, housing finance markets are expanding and represent a powerful engine for economic growth in many emerging economies. However, the unfolding sub-prime mortgage crisis highlights the risks and potential turbulence that this sector can introduce into the financial system when expanding without proper infrastructure and regulation. As housing finance keeps growing in emerging economies to match a rising demand for housing, new risk management approaches, business models, funding tools, and policy instruments can help. Yet many questions remain about the right balance between innovation and regulation, the extent of risks to the financial system, the appropriate role of the state to promote affordable housing, and the effects of the sub-prime crisis. This book provides a guide for policymakers dealing with housing finance in emerging markets. It highlights the prerequisites for an effective housing finance system; it lays out several policy alternatives and models of housing finance; and it explores the role of governments in expanding access to housing finance for lower-income households. There is no "best" model set out in this book. The aim is to provide a developmental roadmap that can be tailored and sequenced to each country's situation and timing.
