Book Synopsis Devil May Care by : Sebastian Faulks
Download or read book Devil May Care written by Sebastian Faulks and published by Seal Books. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bond is back with a license to thrill. Forty-three years ago, Ian Fleming wrote his last great 007 adventure. Now, in Devil May Care, the world's most iconic spy returns in a Cold War story spanning the world's exotic locations. By invitation of the Fleming estate to mark the centenary of his birth, acclaimed novelist Sebastian Faulks picks up where Fleming left off, writing a tour de force that will electrify every James Bond fan. A fitting tribute to the Bond tradition, Devil May Care stands on its own as a triumph of witty prose and plenty of double-0 action. "In his house in Jamaica, Ian Fleming used to write a thousand words in the morning, then go snorkeling, have a cocktail, lunch on the terrace, more diving, another thousand words in the late afternoon, then more martinis and glamorous women. In my house in London, I followed this routine exactly, apart from the cocktails, the lunch, and the snorkeling." —Sebastian Faulks
Download or read book Continuing Bonds written by Dennis Klass and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1996. This new book gives voice to an emerging consensus among bereavement scholars that our understanding of the grief process needs to be expanded. The dominant 20th century model holds that the function of grief and mourning is to cut bonds with the deceased, thereby freeing the survivor to reinvest in new relationships in the present. Pathological grief has been defined in terms of holding on to the deceased. Close examination reveals that this model is based more on the cultural values of modernity than on any substantial data of what people actually do. Presenting data from several populations, 22 authors - among the most respected in their fields - demonstrate that the health resolution of grief enables one to maintain a continuing bond with the deceased. Despite cultural disapproval and lack of validation by professionals, survivors find places for the dead in their on-going lives and even in their communities. Such bonds are not denial: the deceased can provide resources for enriched functioning in the present. Chapters examine widows and widowers, bereaved children, parents and siblings, and a population previously excluded from bereavement research: adoptees and their birth parents. Bereavement in Japanese culture is also discussed, as are meanings and implications of this new model of grief. Opening new areas of research and scholarly dialogue, this work provides the basis for significant developments in clinical practice in the field.

Download or read book An Uncommon Bond written by Jeff Brown and published by New Leaf Distribution. This book was released on 2015-05 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this higher consciousness love story, author Jeff Brown introduces the concept of ‘uncommon bonds’ through the profound connection between Sarah and Lowen- two soul-mates who have found their way to one another yet again. In this remarkably engaging story, we walk beside the lovers as they touch the divine and then struggle to ground their love in daily life. From the heights of sacred sexuality to the depths of human foible, they ultimately have to choose- die to this love, or shrink back to mediocrity, open to the next portal of possibility or postpone it until the next lifetime. Shaped and reshaped in love’s cosmic kiln, Sarah and Lowen become a symbol of our own longing for wholeness in the presence of another. This book is not a regular love story. It is not like anything written before. It is more of a sacred text- one that people will turn to for years to contemplate, discuss and understand the ecstasies and challenges of love. In a world that yearns for deep soul connection, ‘An Uncommon Bond’ provides a blueprint of possibility for all of us- reminding us of the luminous nature of great love, and showing us the opportunities for expansion that live at its heart. The path of the beloved is no easy walk, but the fruits of our labor are ripe with blessings. ,

Book Synopsis Covenant Essays: Three by : T. Hoogsteen
Download or read book Covenant Essays: Three written by T. Hoogsteen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays within these covers inform and challenge. T. Hoogsteen recognized that even with the world-changing alterations caused by migrations, disasters, and wars profoundly reshaping the face of the earth and its human community, the Lord Jesus Christ creates history. Nothing on earth or in the universe happens from fatalistic forces. In the Bible, imagebearing and officebearing come through with imposing insistence; we cannot assume that we can be who we want to be, independent individuals or communist societies. The Lord gives each person a place and a task for our lives. Self-examination, a forgotten responsibility, comes to the fore with compelling insight. Who are you in the presence of the Christ? An ignored exercise of prolegomena--the explanatory word before starting theological work--is recognized as significant for this introductory effort. The author discovered ancient Greek mythology holding up the formidable Nicene Creed, Homoean Christology, and the Athanasian, matters that need deletion and reformation. The ideal of the freedom of the will has long, at least since the third century AD, intrigued the church and the world outside. Freedom of the will is a pagan invention. Christ Jesus in the name of the Father and through the Spirit gives perspective even in darkest times.

Gathered from extensive family interviews, False Measures delves into Matthew Sr.'s past and describes the many demons he wrestled with most of his young life.
