Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most up-to-date study of the text history of 1 and 2 Kings In this book, Tuukka Kauhanen approaches the challenging case of the textual history of 1 and 2 Kings through citations of the text found within the writings of the fourth-century bishop of Sadinia, Lucifer of Cagliari. Kauhanen presents evidence that Lucifer's Latin text sheds important light on lost Hebrew and Greek pieces of the textual puzzle in Kings. In doing so, he compares all of Lucifer's extensive quotations of Kings to extant Greek witnesses as well as Old Latin witnesses where available and subsequently analyzes the probable reasons for textual variations. In each instance he attempts to choose the best possible candidate for the Old Greek reading and where that reading might reflect a now-lost Hebrew text. Features Use of the most current research into the text of the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint, including the Hebrew Bible: A Critical Edition series and the forthcoming Göttingen Septuagint edition of King An appendix listing readings from the analysis sections arranged according to agreement patterns and other meaningful criteria Charts comparing readings

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the outskirts of the southern suburbs of Sydney, a satanic cult is performing sadistic rituals that had been discovered in an ancient grimoire. In the ritual, eleven women must be kidnapped and sacrificed on specific days after the summer solstice. After each sacrifice, the woman's naked body must be laid in sight of a religious place of worship, casting a curse on each denomination targeted. The leader of the cult, known as the High Priestess, believes in her deranged mind that the sacrifices will bring Satan and his army into our world. The cult has purchased a property outside of Barton Park, where a large shed has been erected to hold the cult's congregations. A house has been converted to accommodate the abducted women who must be humiliated and degraded before one is sacrificed every two days before the year's first full moon. The women are chained to the floor, with little to no chance of escape from the well-guarded house of hell. A task force is set up in the suburb of Southern Palms to catch the killers. The team, led by Detective Tank Dodge, consists of detectives, a forensic pathologist, an investigator, a profiler, and a computer analyst. Unknown to the team is that they have moles in their ranks who keep the satanic cult informed of any impending threat. As the body count starts to rise, Tank and his team need to discover the whereabouts of the cult and the kidnappers who are abducting the young women.

Book excerpt: . Why does God allow suffering? . Are all religious expressions equally valid? . Do evil spirits exist? In The Jesus Gamble author Michael Rowles answers these and other questions in a systematic and readable style. He applies sound logic without downplaying the reality of the supernatural world. His main focus however, is the person of Jesus Christ. He demonstrates that many historical and contemporary beliefs about Jesus of Nazareth are simply implausible. Instead, following the trail of clues deliberately left by God Himself within the pages of the Bible, he leads us to the inescapable conclusion as to who this man Jesus really was, what he accomplished, and what the implications of this discovery are. The Jesus Gamble is for those who seek the truth and are willing to have their assumptions challenged.

Download or read book Schiller written by Nicholas Martin and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2006 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To mark the 200th anniversary of Schiller's death, leading scholars from Germany, Canada, the UK and the USA have contributed to this volume of commemorative essays. These were first presented at a symposium held at the University of Birmingham in June 2005. The essays collected here shed important new light on Schiller's standing as a national and transnational figure, both in his own lifetime and in the two hundred years since his death. Issues explored include: aspects of Schiller's life and work which contributed to the creation of heroic and nationalist myths of the poet during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; his activities as man of the theatre and publisher in his own, pre-national context; the (trans-)national dimensions of Schiller's poetic and dramatic achievement in their contemporary context and with reference to later appropriations of national(ist) elements in his work. The contributions to this volume illuminate Schiller's achievements as poet, playwright, thinker and historian, and bring acute insights to bear on both the history of his impact in a variety of contexts and his enduring importance as a point of cultural reference.
