While scuba diving in Tanzania, Sam and Remi Fargo come upon a relic belonging to a long-lost Confederate ship. An anomaly about the relic sets them off chasing a mystery—but unknown to them, a much more powerful force is engaged in the same chase. Mexico’s ruling party, the ultranationalist Mexica Tenochca, is intent on finding that artifact as well, because it contains a secret that could destroy the party utterly. Through Tanzania and Zanzibar, into the rainforests of Madagascar, and across the Indian Ocean to Indonesia and the legendary site of the 1883 Krakatoa explosion, the Fargos and their ruthless opponents pursue the hunt—but only one can win. And the penalty for failure is death.

Book excerpt: “MENZIES [IS] PROPOUNDING ONE OF THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY IDEAS IN THE HISTORY OF HISTORY.” —New York Times Magazine New York Times bestselling historian Gavin Menzies presents newly uncovered evidence revealing, conclusively, that “the lost city of Atlantis” was not only real but also at the heart of a highly advanced global empire that reached the shores of America before being violently wiped from the earth. For three millennia, the legend of Atlantis has gripped the imaginations of explorers, philosophers, occultists, treasure hunters, historians, and archaeologists. Until now, it has remained shrouded in myth. Yet, like ancient Troy, is it possible that this fabled city actually existed? If so, what happened to it and what are its secrets? The fascinating reality of Atlantis’s epic glory and destruction are uncovered, finally, in these pages in thrilling detail by the iconoclastic historian Gavin Menzies—father of some of “the most revolutionary ideas in the history of history” (New York Times). Meticulously analyzing exciting new geologic research, recently unearthed archaeological artifacts, and cutting-edge DNA evidence, Menzies has made a jaw-dropping discovery: Atlantis truly did exist, and was part of the incredibly advanced Minoan civilization that extended from its Mediterranean base to England, India, and even America. In The Lost Empire of Atlantis, he constructs a vivid portrait of this legendary civilization and shares his remarkable findings. As riveting as an Indiana Jones adventure, The Lost Empire of Atlantis is a revolutionary work of popular history that will forever change our understanding of the past.

Book excerpt: From a preeminent scholar of Eastern Europe and the prizewinning author of Chernobyl, the essential history of Russian imperialism. In 2014, Russia annexed the Crimea and attempted to seize a portion of Ukraine -- only the latest iteration of a centuries-long effort to expand Russian boundaries and create a pan-Russian nation. In Lost Kingdom, award-winning historian Serhii Plokhy argues that we can only understand the confluence of Russian imperialism and nationalism today by delving into the nation's history. Spanning over 500 years, from the end of the Mongol rule to the present day, Plokhy shows how leaders from Ivan the Terrible to Joseph Stalin to Vladimir Putin exploited existing forms of identity, warfare, and territorial expansion to achieve imperial supremacy. An authoritative and masterful account of Russian nationalism, Lost Kingdom chronicles the story behind Russia's belligerent empire-building quest.

For he claims descent from treasure's one-time owner. It will be his, no matter who stands in his way . . . Book excerpt: Using government records, private letters and diaries and contemporary media sources, this book examines the key themes affecting the relationship between Britain and the Dominions during the Second World War, the Empire's last great conflict. It asks why this political and military coalition was ultimately successful in overcoming the challenge of the Axis powers but, in the process, proved unable to preserve itself. Although these changes were inevitable the manner of the evolution was sometimes painful, as Britain's wartime economic decline left its political position exposed in a changing post-war international system.

For only Tarzan, the white man who had been raised by the anthropoid apes, could understand the ways of the jungle and its beasts perfectly enough to speed to the scientist's rescue. But this time, in addition to savage tribes and vicious beasts, Tarzan uncovered a strange lost land — twin cities of Roman soldiery, outposts of a ruthless empire that had fallen fifteen hundred years before. Tarzan's desperate struggle between ancient intrigues and modern schemers, against deadly gladiators and enraged lions, is Edgar Rice Burroughs at his very best...FROM THE BOOKS.

Book excerpt: Dan Roodt is a well-known Afrikaner author and commentator in South Africa. In this essay he explores the country's "new" English identity which is founded on the old colonial identity of the nineteenth century when the redcoats invaded the Cape of Good Hope. Althouth there are only 1 million "real" English people in South Africa, thanks to the global Anglo-Saxon Empire, the country is anxious to model itself on present-day England and America. Political correctness and anti-racism are but two of the fads slavishly followed by South Africa's media, academic and political elite. Although the country tries to recreate itself as an inverted mirror image of its so-called "apartheid" past, more and more it is looking like a giant bantustan, with casinos and Afro-kitsch shopping centres being built everywhere. But also its English authors and critics still regard England as "home" and aspire to become global sovereign individuals. So no-one is really "South African" anymore. Roodt situates the extreme social violence that has characterised South Africa since 1994 also within the ambit of its identity crisis. A society in which fathers are absent, where people speak no defined language but various forms of broken English, will produce the very high murder rates that South Africa has. Afrikaners, who have their own centuries-old identity forged within the country, are suffering from the revolutionary new ersatz "English" identity being imposed on everyone. Afrikaans institutions have been appropratiated by mostly white and radical English-speakers regard Afrikaners as foreigners or interlopers in their own country. The cause of the revolution in South Africa has been the radical children of conservative British immigrants in the country who were re-educated at the very left-wing universities and so espoused "Boerehaat" or hatred of Afrikaners, along with the ideas of sixties-America and cultural Marxism. The author analyses Nelson Mandela's stature in the wider English-speaking world where he is seen is a kind of demi-god or king.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History is written by victors. Distortion is their close friend in such a manner that they can give shame to the conquered to finally make them mentally weak. At the age of imperialism, this savage tactic was frequently used by colonialists to humiliate the identity of the conquered. They thought that they could easily control the conquered if they were mentally weak. Moreover, mainstream historians don't try to research it further to correct the humiliated spirit of their people. Rather, they sit on the existing history and enjoy comfort as professors in colleges. Do they fear new theories? Most of them fear that some progressive historians could come up with new theories and ultimately threaten their current blissful positions. As for them, correct history and new theories are enemies. Here I present you my book created based on historic records, so it will enrich your knowledge of Korean history. If you like, you can study deep after reading this book. Well, I hope you will do so.
