Book excerpt: This book states that data users often suffer from the difficulty of acquiring knowledge for decision-making, and others are unsure how existing data are useful. The reader will be released from these dilemmas and enabled to act beyond patterns in past events by creating a process to interact with the data market and the dynamic real-world rich in new events. We present new approaches from the aspects of computation, communication, and their integration, to readers including analysts in sciences and businesses, systems managers, and learners desiring to design knowledge to learn. We show clues to explaining causalities in the target world of a black-box AI of which users may seek a predictive performance. For obtaining interpretable knowledge, we show the integration of model- and data-driven approaches, the analysis and perception of signals from data acquired in the cyber or the real word, and creative communication which connects demands to data by visualizing the data market as a place for innovations

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Free yourself from self-limiting beliefs and fears that keep you stuck. This book lays out a blueprint for how to take control of your life and begin living your dreams. We all dream. We all imagine. And we all want to live our best life. But why is it that 90 percent of people admit that if they got to live their life over, they would live it differently? What keeps us comfortable with the status quo and unable to get beyond “What if”? In part 1 of this book, Dr. Shirley Davis addresses these and other questions by guiding the reader through a personal journey of self-discovery, a search for significance, and an examination of the self-imposed limitations that can hijack our purpose, power, and possibilities. In part 2, she details the readers' journies toward realizing their dreams by reimagining their lives, identifying their “why,” and developing a life plan to stay focused and accountable. She describes the right questions to ask, the right mindset to adopt, and the right relationships to build that will enable everyone to live the life he or she has always imagined. Dr. Davis reveals the necessary steps for releasing the limits we place on ourselves as a result of life's tests, wrong thinking, and bad decisions. She helps readers overcome paralyzing fears that keep dreams on pause and inspires the confidence to jump first and grow wings on the way down.

Book excerpt: What would compel a successful surgeon to give up his practice in affluent Brentwood, Tennessee, to move to Haiti and serve the poorest of the poor? The catastrophic earthquake that devasted Haiti in 2010 was the motivation that Dr. David Vanderpool needed to completely change his life to follow the call of Jesus. For several years, he and his wife, Laurie, had been asking each other a daily question: What did you do yesterday that required faith? God’s call to Dr. David Vanderpool’s was so powerful that he organized medical and logistical relief to help the hundreds of thousands of desperate Haitians?suffering people with no water, food, or shelter, much less medical care. But it didn’t stop there. The Vanderpools sold everything—surgical practice, home, belongings—to bring much-needed medical care to the people of Haiti. They established a nonprofit, LiveBeyond, to empower the impoverished. Today, its work continues with basic needs such as nutrition and water, in addition to health care, education, and agricultural assistance. The goal: achieve sustainable communities, beginning with the home base of Thomazeau, Haiti. The inspirational true stories of LiveBeyond’s work in Haiti will lead you to ask yourself, What did I do yesterday that required faith? And maybe do something about it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We find Roma settlements on the outskirts of villages, separated from the majority population by roads, railways or other barriers, disconnected from water pipelines and sewage treatment. Why are some people (or groups) better off than others when it comes to the distribution of environmental benefits? In order to understand the present situation and identify ways to address the impacts of these inequalities we must understand the past and mechanisms related to the differentiated treatment. The situation and discrimination of the Roma ethnic minority in Slovakia is examined from the perspective of environmental conditions and injustice. There is no simple answer as to why there is environmental injustice. Environmental conditions in Roma settlements are just one of the indicators of failures of policies addressing the problem of poverty and social exclusion in marginalized groups, structural discrimination, and internal Roma problems. Environmental injustice is not an outcome of the "historical determination" of the Roma population to live in environmentally problematic places.

Book excerpt: After thousands of years, the dream of a world without war may seem hopelessly unrealistic. But, as Winslow Myers shows in this concise, eloquent primer, what is truly unrealistic is the notion that war remains a reasonable solution to the conflicts on our planet. He begins by showing why war has become obsolete (though obviously not extinct): it doesn't solve the problems that ostensibly justify it; its costs are unacceptably high; the destructiveness of modern weapons could lead to human extinction; and there are better alternatives. After elaborating on these points, he outlines a new way of thinking that will be necessary if we are to move beyond war, in particular a recognition of our "oneness" and global interdependence. Finally, he outlines practical alternatives and inspiring examples that anticipate the goal of a world "beyond war."

These discoveries will impact our lives in ways we can only now begin to imagine. In this book, two of the field's leading experts help us imagine those impacts. Paul and Joyce A. Schoemaker tour the remarkable field of biosciences as it stands today, and preview the directions and innovations that are most likely to emerge in the coming years. They offer a clear, non-technical overview of crucial current developments that are likely to have enormous impact, and address issues ranging from increased human longevity to global warming, bio-warfare to personalized medicine. Along the way, they illuminate each of the exciting technologies and hot-button issues associated with contemporary biotechnology - including stem cells, cloning, probiotics, DNA microarrays, proteomics, gene therapy, and a whole lot more. The Schoemakers identify emerging economic, political, and technical drivers and obstacles that are likely to powerfully impact the way the biosciences progress. Then, drawing on Paul Schoemaker's unsurpassed experience helping global organizations prepare for the future, the authors sketch multiple long-term scenarios for the biosciences - and reveal how they will impact your health, family, career, society, even the Earth itself.

No wonder so many of us often feel like we're controlled by our emotions. Our lives would be much improved if we controlled them. In LIVING BEYOND YOUR FEELINGS, Joyce Meyer examines the gamut of feelings that human beings experience. She discusses the way that the brain processes and stores memories and thoughts, and then - emotion by emotion - she explains how we can manage our reactions to those emotions. By doing that, she gives the reader a toolbox for managing the way we react to the onslaught of feelings that can wreak havoc on our lives. In this book, Meyer blends the wisdom of the Bible with the latest psychological research and discusses: the 4 personality types and their influence on one's outlook, the impact of stress on physical and emotional health, the power of memories, the influence of words on emotions, anger & resentment, sadness, loss & grief, fear, guilt & regret, the power of replacing reactions with pro-actions, and the benefits of happiness.

Living Beyond Fear gives powerful testimony to a world of spirits eager to communicate with those of us who can tune in and listen. Beth Mund and Berit Stover were astonished when the Sacred Letters in this book began streaming through telepathically from the souls of loved ones and strangers, each with a distinct message. In this inspiring collection, we hear from a grandparent, a yoga teacher, a young boy, a cheerleader, a famous musician-even a dog. Berit and Beth explain the story of how these individuals came into their awareness as well as the circumstances in which they passed. "A fascinating metaphysical book! As Berit connects with the energy of the discarnate spirit, through her mediumship ability, Beth channels the same soul and through automatic writing, transcribes a letter from the soul to their family and to us. The connection they have is unique and their work is empowering and inspirational." - Garry Gewant, author, medium, and hypnotherapist Explore guidance from the spirit world on how to live a fuller life including: Celebrating Life Living Fearlessly Transcending Grief Connecting with Consciousness Healing from Addictions Surrendering Control Welcoming Change Walking with Mother Earth Loving Our Self Understanding Our Emotions Loving Within The Chaos Unmasking Fear Mentoring The Soul Honoring The Body Sharing Our Space Finding God Becoming Vulnerable Cultivating Faith Expressing Our Differences Trusting Our Heart Explaining Our Mission.
