Book Synopsis Jack Draws Anything by : Jack Henderson
Download or read book Jack Draws Anything written by Jack Henderson and published by Hodder Children's Books. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a family friend bought one of his drawings for 20p, six-year-old Jack came up with the idea to 'draw anything' in return for donations to the hospital that treats his two-year-old brother. His parents set up a website and thought they might make £100. After two weeks, Jack had over 500 picture requests and had raised over £10,000 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation. Parents Ed and Rose with Jack, Toby and Noah appeared on the Fern Britton Show and Jack's project was featured on Russell Howard's Good News four times. Coverage by STV news, BBC news, and CBBC Newsround have all helped spread the word about this creative and generous little boy. Jack is slowly but steadily drawing the requested pictures which range from a 'dinosaur diving into a pool of jelly' (#1) to 'my (extremely bald) friend Brian dancing like a crazy man' (#80). He doesn't draw every day, only when he wants to, and his parents estimate that he'll finish at the end of August. For the latest drawings, or to make a donation yourself, visit jackdrawsanything.com.

Download or read book The Yugo written by Jason Vuic and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six months after its American introduction in 1985, the Yugo was a punch line; within a year, it was a staple of late-night comedy. By 2000, NPR's Car Talk declared it "the worst car of the millennium." And for most Americans that's where the story begins and ends. Hardly. The short, unhappy life of the car, the men who built it, the men who imported it, and the decade that embraced and discarded it is rollicking and astounding, and one of the greatest untold business-cum-morality tales of the 1980s. Mix one rabid entrepreneur, several thousand "good" communists, a willing U.S. State Department, the shortsighted Detroit auto industry, and improvident bankers, shake vigorously, and you've got The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History. Brilliantly re-creating the amazing confluence of events that produced the Yugo, Yugoslav expert Jason Vuic uproariously tells the story of the car that became an international joke: The American CEO who happens upon a Yugo right when his company needs to find a new import or go under. A State Department eager to aid Yugoslavia's nonaligned communist government. Zastava Automobiles, which overhauls its factory to produce an American-ready Yugo in six months. And a hole left by Detroit in the cheap subcompact market that creates a race to the bottom that leaves the Yugo . . . at the bottom.
Download or read book Private - Keep Out! written by Gwen Grant and published by Random House. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A forgotten classic brought back into print for the first time in decades - the missing literary sister to Anne of Green Gables and Tracy Beaker, a tough and spirited girl's adventures growing up in a northern post-war mining town. ‘I told our Lucy I’m going to be a writer when I grow up and she said, ‘You should be a good one then. You tell enough lies.’ Psst! We know you shouldn’t really read something labelled ‘private’ but this book is special. It’s written by young girl growing up in a mining town in 1948 who is practising to become a writer when she grows up...possibly. It’s hard work being a writer. There’s no privacy in a house with six kids and there’s no time, especially if you have to go to school and to dancing class (and wear frilly knickers) and Sunday school (and sing about being a sunbeam). You’re supposed to write about what you know, which means this book is about annoying sisters with no sense of humour and brothers who think they know everything, and bullies and chicken spots and being run over. Sometimes you can write about good things that happen, like going to the seaside or Christmas Eve, but mostly the stories end with being sent to bed early in disgrace. But when the writer is a tough, spiky and funny as this one, her adventures will always be worth reading.
