Book Synopsis Socioeconomic Empowerment of Women in Sudan Learning Experiences by : Nagwa Babiker Abdalla Yousif
Download or read book Socioeconomic Empowerment of Women in Sudan Learning Experiences written by Nagwa Babiker Abdalla Yousif and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-09-29 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SWGU believes that comprehensive development and planning processes can only be realised through the promotion of women’s empowerment. To achieve this goal, the SWGU established a coordination mechanism with one of the biggest Sudanese federal ministries, the Ministry for Social Planning (MSP) and, in particular, the National Council for Social Planning (NCSP), at both national and state levels. Through fundamental empowerment activities women not only participated but also lead those institutions functionally related to the National Economic Planning Council (NEPC). Accordingly, all work was harmonised to pursue the set of goals stated in the Comprehensive Poverty Reduction Strategy (CPRS). Since women’s concerns are varied, numerous, and interdisciplinary in nature, the SWGU officially directed it efforts towards the promotion of women’s causes while unofficially targeting the whole spectrum of governmental institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), rather than limiting its efforts by trying to establish a ministry for women’s affairs.

Book Synopsis South Sudan’s Injustice System by : Rachel Ibreck
Download or read book South Sudan’s Injustice System written by Rachel Ibreck and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coming into existence amid a wave of optimism in 2011, South Sudan has since slid into violence and conflict. Even in the face of escalating civil war, however, the people of the country continue to fight for justice, despite a widespread culture of corruption and impunity. Drawing on extensive new research, Rachel Ibreck examines people's lived experiences as they navigate South Sudan's fledgling justice system, as well as the courageous efforts of lawyers, activists, and ordinary citizens to assert their rights and hold the government to account. In doing so, the author reveals how justice plays out in a variety of settings, from displacement camps to chiefs' courts, and in cases ranging from communal land disputes to the country's turbulent peace process. Based on a collaborative research project carried out with South Sudanese activists and legal practitioners, the book also demonstrates the value of conducting researching with, rather than simply about those affected by conflict. At heart, this is a people's story of South Sudan - what works in this troubled country is what people do for themselves.
Book Synopsis Security, Education and Development in Contemporary Africa by : M. Raymond Izarali
Download or read book Security, Education and Development in Contemporary Africa written by M. Raymond Izarali and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume delineates the critical link among security, education and development in Africa and provides a multidisciplinary framework of analyses and possible solutions. Africa has had a long history that embodies layers of mass-scale criminality and exploitation not merely from neocolonial and apartheid policies but also from political greed. This has impacted adversely on security, education and development in a way that deprivation of education and underdevelopment, in turn, re-creates security issues. The volume aims firstly to help augment scholarly inquiry into the nexus among in/security, education and development through the multidisciplinary framework of analyses; secondly to provide policymakers and educators with tools and a framework to comprehend the complexity and magnitude of the issues to which they ought to be sensitive and respond; and finally to provide caregivers and childcare agencies of the state a comprehensible framework of underlying, multifaceted sources of trauma experienced by children in extraordinary circumstances. It is organized in four sections: theoretical conceptualization on security and development; country cases on security and development; security and educational development; and country cases on security and education. Serving as a significant compass to understand and respond to the complex interplay and impact of security, education and development in Africa, it is of great use to graduates and scholars interested in Africa Politics, IPE, security studies and development studies.
Book Synopsis Super Dimensions in Globalisation and Education by : David R. Cole
Download or read book Super Dimensions in Globalisation and Education written by David R. Cole and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first major production of the globalisation research strand of the Centre for Educational Research at Western Sydney University. This book makes a significant contribution to the theory of and research in globalisation and education, and tackles the topics of superdiversity and supercomplexity. The book’s thesis is that the effects of globalisation on education can only be understood if the specific yet complex conditions of globalisation in education are investigated. The book takes an international approach to understanding globalisation and does not restrict itself to just one methodological or theoretical plane of investigation. Education is one of these frontline domains in which the effects of superdiversity cannot be dismissed, minimized or denied. The continuously increasing complexity of learning environments is raising critical issues at every level, from description over analysis to theoretical generalization, and this book is a first and fruitful attempt at charting these waters. This pioneering book will remain a key text for many years to come. Jan Bloomaert Professor of Language, Culture and Globalization and Director of the Babylon Center Tilburg University, the Netherlands. This provocative collection works from two premises: that today there is superdiversity in our globalised world and related is a supercomplexity of theoretical and methodological approaches. The collection proffers multifarious challenges for educational theory, research and practice in working with, through and across these two premises. As such, Super Dimensions in Globalisation and Education is essential reading for all educational researchers, whatever their interests or location. Professor Bob Lingard The University of Queensland, Australia. This is a highly imaginative book that stops ‘flat earth’ and convergence arguments dead in their tracks. Its genius is to bring super-complexity and super-diversity into a conversation with each other and with education, and in doing so shed light on the numerous and unexpected ways in which global processes are shaping education in revealing and compelling ways. Any scholar concerned with globalisation and education will find Super Dimensions in Globalisation and Education a’ must have’ on their reading list. Professor Susan Robertson Director of the Centre for Globalisation, Education and Social Futures University of Bristol, UK. This is an absorbing and compelling collection. It takes readers on a kaleidoscopic journey through various intricate expressions of the nexus between globalisation and education. And it offers multiple ways that such expressions can be thought and rethought. In transcending conventional categorisations it invites educators to do so too. Professor Jane Kenway, Australian Professorial Fellow – Australian Research Council, Education Faculty, Monash University, Australia.
