In dieser Studie werden Zahlen und Angaben zu bedeutsamen Bereichen des Lebens von Fachkräften aus Statistik und der Sozialforschung veröffentlicht. Kinder aus Problemfamilien haben Schwierigkeiten im Bereich ihrer Gesundheit, von Geburt an wachsen sie ungesund auf. Entweder rauchen die Mütter schon während der Schwangerschaft oder sind selbst gesundheitlich beeinträchtigt. Die Probleme der Eltern setzen sich im Leben des Nachwuchses fort. Dies führt oft zu Fehlverhalten, gesundheitlichen Schwierigkeiten der Psyche, ungesunder Ernährung etc. Für diese Familien mit einem Berg an Problemen kann das Case Management zielführend in der Aktivierung zur Selbsthilfe werden. Dies kann anhand einer praktischen Auseinandersetzung mit der hier folgenden Fallstudie gezeigt werden. Zu Beginn wird die Familie mit ihrer Problemlage vorgestellt. Anhand des Case Managements in den Phasen Linking und Monitoring im Bereich der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe wird die Familie auf der Netzwerkebene zur Selbsthilfe durch verschiedene Hilfsangebote von diversen Leistungsanbietern unterstützt. Die fiktive Fam. Müller wohnt am Stadtrand von Bonn in einem baufälligen EFH, das nach dem Tod der Eltern des Familienvaters, Anton Müller, gemeinsam mit einem hohen Geldbetrag an ihn vererbt wurde. Anton, 44 Jahre alt, arbeitet in einem Straßenbauunternehmen mit bundesweitem Arbeitseinsatz und kommt teilweise nur an den Wochenenden nach Bonn zur Familie. In seiner Freizeit, unterwöchig und an den Wochenenden, sucht er gemeinsam mit Freunden diverse Spielhallen auf und verliert dort viel Geld. Seit dem Tod seiner Eltern und der Gründung seiner jetzigen Familie hat sich eine Spielesuchtproblematik entwickelt. Er wirkt schnell gereizt und wird teils auch aggressiv, lügt und hat den Dispokredit schon voll ausgereizt. Anton meint, er finde sein Glück nur an den Spieleautomaten. Seine Frau, Marie Müller, 42 Jahre alt, leidet seit dem Kontaktabbruch zu den eigenen Eltern ab ihrem ca. 24. Lebensjahr an Depressionen.

Hierzu wird der Fall zunächst dargestellt um im Anschluss in den Phasen des Case Managements bearbeitet zu werden. Dabei werden die Phasen vor und nach den Phasen des Linking und Monitoring zum besseren Verständnis in verkürzter Form erläutert. Hauptaugenmerk wird hierbei auf die Phasen Linking und Monitoring in der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe gelegt. Familie Bubner wohnte am Stadtrand von Spremberg in einem vor zehn Jahren neu gebauten Haus. Der Vater Robert arbeitete jahrelang als Alleinverdiener im Tagebau, wo er als Schichtleiter tätig war. Als sein geliebter Vater vor drei Jahren starb, fiel er in ein Loch. Um sich von seinem schmerzlichen Verlust abzulenken, begann er zu spielen und entwickelte im Lauf der Zeit eine Spielsucht, ohne dies selbst zu merken. Er verlor seinen Job, weshalb die Familie die Raten für das neu gebaute Haus nicht mehr zahlen konnte. Die Familie Bubner verschuldete sich und musste ihr Haus verkaufen. Nach dem Verkauf mussten sie in eine Vierraumwohnung in ein Mehrfamilienhaus mit zwölf Parteien ziehen. Die Mutter Kathleen, welche seit der Geburt der 16-jährigen Lilly nicht mehr berufstätig ist, verkraftete diesen sozialen Abstieg nicht und fiel in eine Depression. Diese macht es ihr teilweise unmöglich den gemeinsamen 4-jährigen Sohn Tom in den Kindergarten zu bringen. Da die Mutter aufgrund der Depression, die meiste Zeit des Tages im Bett verbringt, geht sie mit Tom nicht raus zum Spielen. Auch ein Spielplatz wird nicht aufgesucht, sodass Tom keine Möglichkeit hat Freunde zu finden. Er findet wenig Beachtung seiner Eltern, denn niemand in der Familie hat Lust sich mit ihm zu beschäftigen. Er wird stattdessen vor den Fernseher gesetzt. Die 16-jährige Tochter schwänzt regelmäßig die Schule und ist nur selten zu Hause. Sie und ihre Clique wurden bereits mehrfach bei Ladendiebstählen aufgegriffen. Kathleen erträgt die Situation nicht mehr und möchte unbedingt eine Veränderung erzielen. So beginnt sie in Momenten, in welchen es ihr nicht so schlecht geht, über entsprechende Hilfen zu informieren. Sie vereinbart einen Termin beim Jugendamt (JA) und hofft an dieser Stelle die richtige Hilfe für diese schwierige Situation innerhalb der Familie zu bekommen. Häufig stammen Kinder und Jugendliche mit psychischen Problemen aus Familien, in denen ein Elternteil selbst psychische Probleme oder gar eine psychische Erkrankung hat. Im weiteren Verlauf der Fallstudie wird sich zeigen, ob und wie Familie Bubner die möglichen Hilfsangebote annimmt.

Book excerpt: Riding on the success of Indigenous Social Work Around the World, this book provides case studies to further scholarship on decolonization, a major analytical and activist paradigm among many of the world’s Indigenous Peoples, including educators, tribal leaders, activists, scholars, politicians, and citizens at the grassroots level. Decolonization seeks to weaken the effects of colonialism and create opportunities to promote traditional practices in contemporary settings. Establishing language and cultural programs; honouring land claims, teaching Indigenous history, science, and ways of knowing; self-esteem programs, celebrating ceremonies, restoring traditional parenting approaches, tribal rites of passage, traditional foods, and helping and healing using tribal approaches are central to decolonization. These insights are brought to the arena of international social work still dominated by western-based approaches. Decolonization draws attention to the effects of globalization and the universalization of education, methods of practice, and international ’development’ that fail to embrace and recognize local knowledges and methods. In this volume, Indigenous and non-Indigenous social work scholars examine local cultures, beliefs, values, and practices as central to decolonization. Supported by a growing interest in spirituality and ecological awareness in international social work, they interrogate trends, issues, and debates in Indigenous social work theory, practice methods, and education models including a section on Indigenous research approaches. The diversity of perspectives, decolonizing methodologies, and the shared struggle to provide effective professional social work interventions is reflected in the international nature of the subject matter and in the mix of contributors who write from their contexts in different countries and cultures, including Australia, Canada, Cuba, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, and the USA.
