Book Synopsis Financial Reporting under IFRS by : Wolfgang Dick
Download or read book Financial Reporting under IFRS written by Wolfgang Dick and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-10-11 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Financial Reporting Standards are quite different from other sets of accounting standards, and are fundamentally different from US-GAAP, in that they are based on principles, and not on detailed rules. Financial Reporting under IFRS:A topic-based approach offers a global perspective on IFRS by presenting the prescribed rationale and principles and illustrating them through numerous examples from large international companies. It aims to develop the fundamental skills necessary to read and use the information contained in all types of financial statements, through examples, activities, questions and answers. The book is broadly divided into three sections. Section one examines the structure of the Balance Sheet and the Income Statement, their links and the accounting mechanisms used to prepare them. Section two deals with the identification, evaluation and reporting of Balance Sheet items. Section three covers the use of financial statements to analyze a firm’s performance and its risks. Throughout the book special topics are covered, including Derivatives and Hedge accounting (IAS 39), Business Combination (IFRS 3) and Operating Segments (IFRS 8). Financial Reporting under IFRS is ideally suited to the needs of students of accounting and financial reporting, but all users of financial statements, from creditors and investors to suppliers, customers, employees and governments will benefit from its concise, topic-based approach.

Download or read book Accounting under IndAS: An Illustrative Manual written by Santosh Maller and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-20 with total page 1217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the book: Ind AS transition has resulted in high-quality, principles-based, globally comparable financial reporting of large Indian companies. The transition not only impacted the financial results of companies, but also caused far reaching consequential business impact. Since last two years, there have been several changes in Ind AS for example, amendments in the revenue recognition standard and new leases standard has drastically changed the performance reporting in the balance sheet composition of companies. Further, certain Ind AS principles are implicitly complex, for example, the accounting for financial instruments, acquisitions and business combinations are quite nuanced and can get difficult to apply without proper understanding. Towards this end, this book attempts to provide insights and in-depth analysis on interpretative issues and complex principles in the Ind AS standards. Ind AS contains extensive presentation and disclosure requirements. The relevant chapters extensively deal with these requirements with illustrative examples. To simplify the reading experience, the chapters include a brief, easy to understand, summary of the relevant standard, followed by Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the chapter. Coronavirus (COVID-19) has also resulted in widespread economic uncertainty and disruption of businesses. There have been far reaching implications on financial reporting. These circumstances would potentially present entities with several challenges when preparing their financial statements. This Edition covers some of the key financial reporting implications by way of FAQs in related chapters that companies need to consider along with the possible approaches that they may consider to dealing with the same keeping in view the business objectives, financial covenants and the accounting standards. This book is intended to help the companies to identify Ind AS requirements that are relevant to them and evaluate various accounting policy choices available under Ind AS. The disclosure related issues would be useful to benchmark with the Ind AS/IFRS disclosures of major companies. Currently, there is limited literature of the Ind AS application issues. This book endeavors to provide guidance on these issues. The book would be an immensely useful referencer for professionals, practitioners and corporates.

Book Synopsis Corporate Reporting by : Geoff Everingham
Download or read book Corporate Reporting written by Geoff Everingham and published by Juta and Company Ltd. This book was released on 2008-06-30 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The realm of corporate reporting has shifted significantly since the 7th edition of this book was published. With the world becoming an ever smaller place, the need for a set of global reporting standards has become all the more pressing. To this end two major frameworks have emerged as the flag bearers of global financial reporting standards viz International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and US GAAP. The former has been mandatory for all companies listed on the JSE Securities Exchange Limited (JSE) since 2005. The differential framework ties in well with the recent amendments to the Companies Act in the form of the Corporate Laws Amendment Act (CLAA). The CLAA marks the first phase of Corporate Law reform in South Africa and aims to introduce, amongst other reforms, differential reporting for limited interest companies as defined, to ease the burden of financial reporting on entities where external use of financial information is limited. It will be followed by the new Companies Act which is currently at the Bill stage. The CLAA has an effective date of 14 December 2007. The disclosure requirements set out in this book apply to South African enterprises. They can therefore be applied to companies, close corporations, trusts and partnerships, irrespective of differences in capital structure. Enterprises which are subsidiaries of foreign parent companies may also be required to prepare their financial statements in a format, and with disclosure, that complies with reporting standards abroad. This could lead to disclosure additional to that required in South Africa as set out in this book.
