This book was released on 2001-07-11 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic "Limit Dislribntions fOT slt1ns of Independent Ramdorn Vari ables" by B.V. Gnedenko and A.N. Kolmogorov was published in 1949. Since then the theory of summation of independent variables has devel oped rapidly. Today a summing-up of the studies in this area, and their results, would require many volumes. The monograph by I.A. Ibragi mov and Yu. V. I~innik, "Independent and Stationarily Connected VaTiables", which appeared in 1965, contains an exposition of the contem porary state of the theory of the summation of independent identically distributed random variables. The present book borders on that of Ibragimov and Linnik, sharing only a few common areas. Its main focus is on sums of independent but not necessarily identically distri buted random variables. It nevertheless includes a number of the most recent results relating to sums of independent and identically distributed variables. Together with limit theorems, it presents many probahilistic inequalities for sums of an arbitrary number of independent variables. The last two chapters deal with the laws of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm. These questions were not treated in Ibragimov and Linnik; Gnedenko and KolmogoTOv deals only with theorems on the weak law of large numbers. Thus this book may be taken as complementary to the book by Ibragimov and Linnik. I do not, however, assume that the reader is familiar with the latter, nor with the monograph by Gnedenko and Kolmogorov, which has long since become a bibliographical rarity

Download or read book Limit Theorems for Multi-Indexed Sums of Random Variables written by Oleg Klesov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the first unified treatment of limit theorems for multiple sums of independent random variables, this volume fills an important gap in the field. Several new results are introduced, even in the classical setting, as well as some new approaches that are simpler than those already established in the literature. In particular, new proofs of the strong law of large numbers and the Hajek-Renyi inequality are detailed. Applications of the described theory include Gibbs fields, spin glasses, polymer models, image analysis and random shapes. Limit theorems form the backbone of probability theory and statistical theory alike. The theory of multiple sums of random variables is a direct generalization of the classical study of limit theorems, whose importance and wide application in science is unquestionable. However, to date, the subject of multiple sums has only been treated in journals. The results described in this book will be of interest to advanced undergraduates, graduate students and researchers who work on limit theorems in probability theory, the statistical analysis of random fields, as well as in the field of random sets or stochastic geometry. The central topic is also important for statistical theory, developing statistical inferences for random fields, and also has applications to the sciences, including physics and chemistry.

Book Synopsis Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application by : P. Hall
Download or read book Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application written by P. Hall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application discusses the asymptotic properties of martingales, particularly as regards key prototype of probabilistic behavior that has wide applications. The book explains the thesis that martingale theory is central to probability theory, and also examines the relationships between martingales and processes embeddable in or approximated by Brownian motion. The text reviews the martingale convergence theorem, the classical limit theory and analogs, and the martingale limit theorems viewed as the rate of convergence results in the martingale convergence theorem. The book explains the square function inequalities, weak law of large numbers, as well as the strong law of large numbers. The text discusses the reverse martingales, martingale tail sums, the invariance principles in the central limit theorem, and also the law of the iterated logarithm. The book investigates the limit theory for stationary processes via corresponding results for approximating martingales and the estimation of parameters from stochastic processes. The text can be profitably used as a reference for mathematicians, advanced students, and professors of higher mathematics or statistics.

Book Synopsis Limit Theory for Mixing Dependent Random Variables by : Lin Zhengyan
Download or read book Limit Theory for Mixing Dependent Random Variables written by Lin Zhengyan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-07-31 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many practical problems, observations are not independent. In this book, limit behaviour of an important kind of dependent random variables, the so-called mixing random variables, is studied. Many profound results are given, which cover recent developments in this subject, such as basic properties of mixing variables, powerful probability and moment inequalities, weak convergence and strong convergence (approximation), limit behaviour of some statistics with a mixing sample, and many useful tools are provided. Audience: This volume will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in the field of probability and statistics, whose work involves dependent data (variables).
Book Synopsis Probability in Banach Spaces 7 by : Eberlein
Download or read book Probability in Banach Spaces 7 written by Eberlein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first international conference on Probability in Banach Spaces was held at Oberwolfach, West Germany, in 1975. It brought together European researchers who, under the inspiration of the Schwartz Seminar in Paris, were using probabi listic methods in the study of the geometry of Banach spaces, a rather small number of probabilists who were already studying classical limit laws on Banach spaces, and a larger number of probabilists, specialists in various aspects of the study of Gaussian processes, whose results and techniques were of interest to the members of the first two groups. This first conference was very fruitful. It fos tered a continuing relationship among 50 to 75 probabilists and analysts working on probability on infinite-dimensional spaces, the geometry of Banach spaces, and the use of random methods in harmonic analysis. Six more international conferences were held since the 1975 meeting. Two of the meetings were held at Tufts University, one at S¢nderborg, Denmark, and the others at Oberwolfach. This volume contains a selection of papers by the partici pants of the Seventh International Conference held at Oberwolfach, West Ger many, June 26-July 2, 1988. This exciting and provocative conference was at tended by more than 50 mathematicians from many countries. These papers demonstrate the range of interests of the conference participants. In addition to the ongoing study of classical and modern limit theorems in Banach spaces, a branching out has occurred among the members of this group.
