Book Synopsis High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering, Munich 2002 by : Siegfried Wagner
Download or read book High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering, Munich 2002 written by Siegfried Wagner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Performance Computers (HPC) have initiated a revolutionary develop ment in research and technology since many complex and challenging prob lems in this area can only be solved by HPC and a network in modeling, algo rithms and software. In 1998 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Association) recommended to install an additional Federal High Performance Computer followed by the one in Stuttgart. In January 1999 the Wissenschaftsrat (German Science Council) decided that the Leibniz Rechenzentrum (Computing Center) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich should run the second Federal High-Performance Computer in Ger many. The investment cost of this Hochstleistungsrechner in Bayern (HLRB) was borne by the Federal Government of Germany and the Free State of Bavaria whereas the operating cost was at the expense of the Bavarian Gov ernment only. The operation of the HLRB is organized in combination with the - Leibniz-Rechenzentrum (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences as the operating authority of the HLRB - Steering Committee of the HLRB - Competence Network for Technical/Scientific High-Performance Comp- ing in Bavaria (KONWIHR). In 2000 a Hitachi SR8000-Fl was installed. It was the first Teraflops Com puter in Germany and reached a peak performance of two Teraflops after an extension at the end of 2001. The goal of HLRB is to provide computer facil ities necessary to solve challenging scientific and technological problems that cannot be solved on big servers but require large (storage) high-performance (very fast) computers and efficient software.
Book Synopsis Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD by : Anthony M. Green
Download or read book Hadronic Physics from Lattice QCD written by Anthony M. Green and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle and nuclear physicists frequently take results from Lattice QCD at their face value without probing into their reliability or sophistication. This attitude usually stems from a lack of knowledge of the field. The aim of the present volume is to rectify this by introducing in an elementary way several topics, which we believe are appropriate for, and of possible interest to, both particle and nuclear physicists who are non-experts in the field.

Book Synopsis The QCD Vacuum, Hadrons and Superdense Matter by : E. V. Shuryak
Download or read book The QCD Vacuum, Hadrons and Superdense Matter written by E. V. Shuryak and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book is an extensive set of lecture notes on various aspects of non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics ? the fundamental theory of strong interaction on which nuclear and hadronic physics is based. The original edition of the book, written in the mid-1980's, had more of a review style. In the second edition the outline remains the same, but the text has been completely rewritten, and extended. Apart from the new developments over the years, this edition has benefited from several graduate courses which the author has taught at Stony Brook during the last decade. The text is now complemented by exercises and has a total of about 1000 references to major works, arranged by subject.Three major issues ? the structure of the QCD vacuum, the structure of hadrons, and the physics of hot/dense matter ? are addressed as physics problems. Therefore, when discussing any specific subject, the book attempts to incorporate (1) all the solid theoretical results, (2) experimental information, and (3) results of numerical (lattice) simulations, which are playing an increasing role in quantum field theory in general, and the development of QCD in particular. The QCD Vacuum, Hadrons and Superdense Matter takes the reader from the first encounter with the subject to the front line of research, as quickly as possible.
Book Synopsis Particle Physics Reference Library by : Herwig Schopper

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first open access volume of the handbook series contains articles on the standard model of particle physics, both from the theoretical and experimental perspective. It also covers related topics, such as heavy-ion physics, neutrino physics and searches for new physics beyond the standard model. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
